I'd like to believe that they had good intentions in mind, but they executed it horribly, You know, that explains most of the MacOS these days, too. I often find myself a bit sweary when OSX makes an easy task so difficult. Ever try to find where the startup apps are located on OSX? This isn't a complaint of Windows versus…

You're welcome, thanks for stopping by to read about the weird random stuff I find on the internet each week.

I think I had some of that last year, they were serving it in an open-faced sandwich. It could have been something else though.
-
But the airfare, hotel, and tours have been bought already. This dip only helps on the things we buy during the trip, so food, etc.

Yep, our phones are tracking us, even when we think they are not.
-
Yeah, I have tried a few of them. I think the sriracha chicken is the best in terms of a carb to protein ratio.
-
How much will it cost them if they suffer a breach? That's the only question they need to answer. Decades ago, when SOX became a thing, non-compliance meant we would be out of business. That made our efforts to be compliant easy to put into a dollar amount at risk.

All software has flaws, this is not a Microsoft issue. I trust them more than I trust Apple or Google.

BTW, that wasn't even a complete list of fried foods available at the fairgrounds, it was but one of many, many food vendors. I asked if I could move in but they said no.

You're welcome! They were easy enough to make, but you will want to use thick cut bacon, cooked almost crisp, and trim all the fat. Worth every minute.

Nice! Funny thing is that I see many DBAs about to find themselves as accidental network admins as hybrid IT becomes more common.

Agreed completely that there are unknown dependencies that permeate systems, especially ones built and maintained internally for years and decades. For example, the idea of creating a linked server is simple enough, but the concept of pulling a billion rows across the network from a data center 800 miles away is NOT…

Well then, that makes sense now, thanks!

Yes, it is a good list.

I *always* need more info about SQL. Is there any particular topic you want to know more about?

Welcome aboard! Very excited to have you on #TeamHeadGeek

So, there's a bit to unpack here, but I'll stick to my main point: I wish we could raise $6.9 billion to combat things like poverty, hunger, and homelessness as easily as we do for events like the Olympics or World Cup. The benefits for host cities are not clear. You mentioned some possible ones, but history shows that…

Oh, we had bratwurst, yes we did.
-
Oh yes, lots of examples of where you find out there was something you missed monitoring. And then you add that piece to your monitoring toolbox, and before you know it you are monitoring everything possible (and still likely to miss something!) You can also get to a point where you find you are spending more time…
-
Yeah, that was old-school for sure.
-
Yeah, I'm guessing there are many more POS breaches that we don't know about yet, and likely at some high-profile hotel chains.

It's a deep fried pork shank and it's delicious.

Welcome!

Security should be a shared responsibility.

You're welcome! Glad you found the information useful.

Yes, there is a tool, check out Database Performance Analyzer. Responsibility for performance tuning varies from shop to shop, but IMO the person designing the database has as much (maybe more) responsibility for performance tuning as the person writing the queries. The DBA is usually stuck with design and code and just…

Thanks Patrick, it's wonderful to be here. And I'm not just saying that because of all the bacon. There is bacon, right? I was promised bacon.

That free map won't help any more than the google map does. The enhanced AR, with an arrow telling you which way to walk, is a nice advance. Also? Think about someone that is visually impaired. Having voice assisted AR would be a huge help for them, too. Now...we just need to get Google to stop collected our private…
