  • The Black Acre Brewing one. I may have listened/watched that one more then a few times....
  • Up here in the UP (Upper Peninsula) things like this are a regular occurrence between November 15-30th. It's quite amusing to try and guess what you will see each year. Just when you think you have seen it all, someone goes above and beyond!
  • Boy gsutherland@sharoncu.com I am glad its Friday because my brain just went poof. I went to that "url" and it didn't load so I got annoyed and started digging into the web filter to figure out why. 10 min later it finally hits me. Derp.....
  • We have had solid below 0 weather up here since Monday. It finally got above 0 for an hour again yesterday at about 1PM but then went right back under. It is currently -10. The wind chill yesterday morning was right around -30 at 5AM.
  • I agree with most people that troubleshooting is something that has to be learned, but I am not sure a normal sit down formal class is the way to go about it. I do not think that troubleshooting is a skill, I think it is more of a mindset. I have seen people who claim to be excellent troubleshooters, only to find out they…
  • I think there needs to be a lesson in it. The cloud does have it's uses. But maybe putting your vital 24/7 systems in there might not be the best idea. Other systems that are not vital or 24/7 systems would be good candidates for this. ERP, HR/ES, Employee Portals and the such would be good candidates IMO. While it would…
  • ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ This right in the face point blank with a shotgun!!!! This is the problem with the ISP system in this country right now and why deregulation is going to cause things to become worse and not better. There is NO competition. Free market…
  • I feel sorry for whatever bird that thing came out of......
  • Yeah here in Northeast Wisconsin and Upper Michigan we are in the same boat when it comes to diversity of carriers. The lack of decent competition pretty much locks us in and gives us no real options. You are lucky to have an ISP that is willing to put in a lot of extra effort and expense in keeping your business. Our only…
  • I did some digging and found the article here. Bitcoin consumes more power than all these countries | World Economic Forum Some interesting statistics from it: A single Bitcoin transaction uses 200 kilowatt hours. - I just checked my electric bill and I used 420 kWh for the entire month of December to run my house. For…
  • Its amusing to think about every vehicle on the road following all the laws, what use would there be for traffic cops anymore? All that money spent on them could be redirected to dealing with what I dub "real crimes". Hell you wouldn't even need traffic lights or even stop signs at intersections anymore because the…
  • Hey Rick, fellow Hospital IT person here. I would love to see how you manage the "unique" situation healthcare IT departments are in right now. With the fed pushing everything digital at warp speed, and the rapidly changing healthcare system, as well as the shrinking budgets. How do you manage to swing the cash pendulum…
  • You are lucky that you have found a company that is willing to foot the bill and give/send you for training. That is getting significantly harder to find as time goes on, especially in the IT world. Now days company's want someone with 3 pages of experience in an obscene range of areas for a job, but they do not want to…
  • Time warner has been better then our old isp which was centrylink. We had T1's through them and things were getting pretty bad when we finally switched. I was still in the help desk at that time and it was not uncommon for the internet to go completely out for hours at a time, usually in the middle of the night. At the…
  • The job interview stuff made me laugh, cry, smile, cringe, all at the same time. Especially your blogs. The DBA specific one exemplifies what is wrong with IT hiring as a whole right now. And the entire irony is that post is, from what I can tell, from 2011! It has only gotten much much worse since then. It really has…
  • If the entire planet shared the same energy grid, then I imagine the problems of production would be significantly less. Imagine it being just like the internet is today. If one production site or route goes down, another one picks up the slack and fills in the gaps. Sadly this will never happen until we evolve past the…
  • The local news paper in my town published a paper about one of the big hospital ransomeware stories. I got bombarded with text messages the next day about it. I work at the hospital here. Obviously people in the community are worried about stuff like this happening, I only wish our administration took it more seriously.…
  • I completely agree with everything you say here. When you see a company that is posting an entry level job that is 3 pages long and requires 3-5 years of experience, that should tell you there is something not right in the industry itself. Entry level means 0 experience, and it should not be more then a page in length. As…
  • I think certifications in general are good. I dislike when an employer requires you to have them to get hired, but is not willing to help their employees get certifications unless it is required by some kind of law for that persons employment. My boss and I are fighting to get the money so I can do the CCNA boot camp…
  • I read that in the Fresh Prince theme song style lol.
  • Make it a week long border party!
  • I remember interviewing for a job several years ago, the interview almost ended with me being escorted out by security. I forget exactly what the job was, but it was an entry level networking position if I remember right. They had a list of education and certification requirements, including MCSA and CCNA. Anyone who has…
  • I would not be surprised to find out they have already been breached. I imagine the hackers who did the equifax one had to at lest send a poke at the other 2 as well. Maybe they were in all 3 of them at the same time and equifax found them first? Guess only time will tell on this one.
  • I don't see anything peaceful about that situation! All in good fun of course It's obviously very windy. You have debris being blown at you at a high speed. Flower petals can hurt if they fly fast enough! Your standing on a rock in the middle of a lake, in the high wind, wearing a cape for some reason. Must be pretty hard…
  • I am doing my best to get used to this new interface, but it still has some work that needs to be done. Here are some of the things I have noted so far. One of the big things missing from the "Nodes" screen is the ability to see what the current version of the connector is on the node. While this may seem minor, it does…
  • I think this has more to do with the damage potential when targeting a type of system. You could target unix resulting in a low number of hits, or you can target windows resulting in a huge number of hits and much greater damage numbers. Most people are going to go for the bigger attack damage potential.
  • Your situation with the email also shows how easy it is to fool people and how inattentive people are to details like that. I agree that most of the time people use shadow IT to make their jobs easier, or just plain possible to begin with. Most of the time there are no bad intentions based on using it. But as you pointed…
