$35 Million Penalty for Not Telling Investors of Yahoo Hack And there is the big issue i have with this. It is both too small of a fine, and the only reason they got fined to begin with is because the investors. When it comes to telling us common people about this stuff, well we just don't matter so be quite already hey.

We currently use teamviewer for our remote desktop support. It has worked well for us. One of the things I really like about it (but this can also be a security issue) is that we can access it directly from home and not have to vpn in or connect to the mothership first to get to it. This saves valuable time when doing off…

We are going to remedy these exact issues by restricting access to the closets to only the Network team. Cabling will be done right the first time with no need to go back and fix it up later. We have 3 people on our network/server team so its easy to keep it under control. All our closets in the our new building will have…

Who says IT people are not fun!?!? lol. That does sound like a good exercise though.

I can associate with the hate on learning a new language. I have learning and attention issues so I can sit there and read something over and over until I am blue in the face and it wont sink in for me. I learn by doing pretty much. Coding is one of those things that I know I could only learn by doing it. Finding the…

Lot of trash talking going on with people about my new monitor! Let the waiting game begin!

If ISP Coverage in the United States was like Cellular Phone coverage I would fully agree with you on this one. Market pressures would force them to remain competitive with their competition or be pushed out of the market completely. But here is the rub, most markets only have a single ISP with true broadband internet…

The real problem isn't the news sites themselves, but the advertisers injecting adds into the spaces on the pages. The advertisers control the add content going in, the website controls how many adds are injected per page. I do hate that some sites have a huge amount of advertisement on them, some of them have more adds…

For me it's not so much about unplugging from technology as much as it is about removing myself from reality for a while. When I get home and get finished with all my daily stuff, I usually hop online and play some games with a group of my friends every night for a couple of hours. During that time i ignore pretty much…

Yeah unfortunately we are not nearly big enough to justify systems like that. Also our administration doesn't understand the difference between entirely manual processes, and automating things. That makes it even harder to buy systems that take a lot of the grunt work out of things to make overall management easier.

Oh man that made me laugh to hard!

It just shows how competitive we all are! We work hard, we play hard

I may have to mention this to a few people here. This seems like a great idea, and its simple.

I had to go look up when node.js was actually created. 2009. Yeah that sounds about right for the IT world now days. It's only been around for 9 years, but if you want a job in it, you need 15 years experience. Lol.

We donate our old hardware when it is appropriate, after sanitizing it of course. This includes the local schools, the DAR Boys and Girls club, the local colleges for their tech programs (new tech students love to see how the inside of something works, and then break it!), the local animal shelter, the list goes on and on.…

The real problem with the whole thing isn't that John Deere is doing this, it is that they don't have a good turn around on getting their "Certified Techs" out to the sites in a timely fashion. In the business world we are used to 24x7 service with 4 hour turn around on them. But with the John Deere stuff, you could…

Anything that involves the FDA you might as well just stick your head in the ground. Around here the FDA stands for Forget Doing Anything.

If net neutrality is lost, our internet options will look a lot like this. (Use chrome to translate the site to make it easier to read.) https://www.meo.pt/internet/internet-movel/telemovel/pacotes-com-telemovel You have to spend $5 just to unlock the category, and you get 10GB a month for that category. It doesn't matter…

It never ceases to amaze me just how much creatures of habit us humans can be. And what happens when you change our environment that causes an interruption to our habits. Sometimes I wonder how we ever made it this far! lol. Maybe critical thinking or something like that should be taught as a college course. I imagine…

This represents the holy land in comparison to where I am right now. If I were to compare what you have described here to what I am currently dealing with I would have to say that they are mirror opposites. My current environment is the doppelganger to yours! We only have an IT Director. IT Director has no veto power with…

Agreed! 10G with 1 cable!!! It will make management soooooo much easier and cleaner in the data center too. Right now we run 8 cables to each of our servers not including fiber. Knocking that down to just 1 will be amazing.

OMG I just about died from laughing when I read this!!!! I need to use that sometime soon

Sadly a lot of what you said here implies that your company actually cares about you as a person, instead of a cog that is easily replaced if it gets a little squeaky. More and more companies seem to be moving more towards the cogs not people treatment of their staff. I have seen a few things done here that just left my…

Na I just used notepad for the most part. Nothing fancy, just down and dirty barebones for the most part.
