Yes there is a 64 bit version already in the works. That project is moving along quite nicely. As soon as we have a better idea on the date, we will let you know. The ship vehicle is EW-CDS-006.

There's a known issue, blogged on the WSUS Blog almost a year ago, that's known to result in 0x8024400E errors. You've not provided enough log details to definitively confirm it as a probably cause, but it's the best place to start based on the information provided.…

Thanks for the info.

To follow up on the original question. (We don't delete posts, as somebody else may benefit from the Q & A)... The Update Management Wizard can also be scheduled. In fact, a scheduled UMW task is a great way to implement weekly or monthly patch cycles on selected machines, without having to select the specific updates each…

If Simple File Sharing is enabled please disable it and tell me if that resolves the problem. To disable simple file sharing yourself, follow these steps: * Click Start, and then click My Computer. * On the Tools menu, click Folder Options. * Click the View tab. * In the Advanced Settings section, click to clear the Use…

We only get applicable updates. If we pulled in all updates regardless of approval you would have (5000 updates per computer) x (number of computer records) = very large number. If you would like to look at the 3rd party update status for each computer the place you want to do this from is the WSUS Server Update View…

SQL Server 2005 Express Edition has a maximum database size of 4GB. If the database is not corrupted as a result of being out-of-space, the options are: * In-place upgrade to SQL Server 2008 R2 Express Edition, which will increase the max database size to 10GB. * Upgrade the Extension Pack to v1.7SP1 and migrate the…

Hi secudes, No, adding a group under the User Preferences tab -> Add User dialog and assigning that group to a credential ring is not supported. Arguably, our dialog should not have allowed you to add the group. You will need to create individual user accounts, as documented in the Administration Guide. -Kelly

Just got an email from the Solar Winds Product Team with all of the information needed to get upgraded. Sweet!

Eric, that registry change will not prevent eminentware from installing updates. Additionally, you could make use of the packageboot feature to implement those registry changes along with the Java installation if you are not already doing this via GPO or other means.

That is the correct way (adding setup as main file and adding other files as additional). There is a video on applying transforms on our website (Third Party Updates: How to add a MSI transform (MST) to a package) that may be of help to you. On the last item, EminentWare won't force the unzip dialog to be silent; that…

Were these Microsoft updates, 3rd Party Updates Pack updates, or locally built packages? Generally when a package is recorded as Install Success in the Task History, but the WUAgent reports the task as failed, it's an indication that the Success Return codes defined in the package definition are not correct. If these are…

You can solve this by adding a credential using the format of ".\username" and assigning that the the "unmatched resources" rule in the Credential Ring Rules Wizard.

Hi Ethan, The locked down credential ring we built the other day only allows you to manage computers in one specific OU, and we removed the default credential. My guess is that this computer is not in that OU, and hence the failure. If you are only having issues on this one machine, the simplest approach is to build a…

All of this information should be available in the standard report: Computer Update Status which is found in the Windows Server Update Services Analystics reporting category.

Hi Richard, this can be caused by firewalls as well as unreliable network connections. Can you give us more information on these resources. Are they on the same subnet or are they remote? Are they moving accross routers with firewalls built in?

Hi arjenw, the only way to do this currently is to create a computer group for laptop users and schedule more aggressively for them. We have an optional agent on the list for our 2.0 release. I dont have a date for this yet.

You do this from Administration and Reporting -> Administrative Tasks - Inventory. Select the computers to inventory. Select 'Create a custom inventory configuration template'. In the Local Publishing Administration Guide, you'll find this documentation: Postexecution The postexecution phase provides for two types of declarations: <programs> and <services> to identify programs to be executed and services to be stopped or started. There are a couple of ways you can obtain approval information by a particular KB number. One way is from the default All Updates view. Enable a filter on the KB IDs column for the particular KB article(s) that you are interested in reviewing, and then observe the values in the Approval and Approved for Computer Groups…

The EminentWare Publishing has a Server Verification wizard. This wizard verifies that we have a homogenous system from a version perspective on the WSUS servers and components. You will want to upgrade the EminentWare Server WSUS console only installation (assuming the EW server is not co-located on the WSUS Server) to…

Hi Matt, I have seen this. One common cause for this error is not specifically pointing the task to the preferred domain controller. On vpn- or WAN-separated networks, this is particularly problematic. To set the preferred DC for the container, build (or you might be able to edit) your inventory tasks for the AD container.…

Hi Mike, Can you give us a little more info on what this .msi contains? Is this an update you rolled on your own - or something you got from our catalog? I've seen that error code before when deploying Office. John

There is no way to determine if any given update is going to be needed by any given system except by either allowing the Windows Update Agent to scan the update after publication to the WSUS server, or directly investigating the criteria for the update to be applicable. For each update in the Software Publishing node tree,…

Hi timbCFCA, When you say that it does not ever indicate it was successfully installed, do you mean just for the 64-bit machines? If so, it may just be tha the installed rule is looking in the wrong path on those 64-bit machines. You can have conditional groupings in the Installed rules to have it 'look' in different…

Mark, One could edit the "Installed Programs and Features Basic" report to include TCP/IP Address from the Computers datasource, then apply a filter on that to narrow results. -Kelly

We are also looking into this. It is a official feature request already. x64 is first in line, and then we will be looking into this.
