I have run into this problem with multiple clients. The client will have a management system that manages and monitors specialised equipment. That equipment will report back any faults to this management tool which will then send a trap alert to SolarWinds. Under the previous Trap Viewer, if the client received 10 traps…

Having the node caption added next to the IP address in the audit entry would definitely be helpful.

I have a wide range of clients using SolarWinds and they're finding out that moving to other vendors means they lose some of their visibility in the products. * While the Meraki feature provides some basic information about the APs, there is a lot more information available in the Meraki API that SolarWinds doesn't show.…

We've had a few clients get hit with ransomware. They had processes in place to restore though so it wasn't as bad as it could have been.

Agreed. Looking forward to installing the RCs!

I'm on call this week and it is currently just after 1 AM. Someone just rang our after-hours support number and initially I was very confused with his request. He was looking to leave a message to make an appointment with an orthotics company - a bit of troubleshooting (hey, I can still provide some support!) and found he…

I agree. I think this particular question is a special case. I definitely don't want to go down the path of having answers given away for every question someone may have gotten wrong. If I'm wrong, the mods can delete the post(s).

Whenever automation is discussed, I always think of these two XKCD comics: xkcd: Automation xkcd: Is It Worth the Time? I'll admit that I've sometimes been guilty for creating solutions to non-existent problems!

Thanks for the information and your suggested formula. Can AppInsight for SQL be used to help troubleshoot max memory issues? I.e. if your Total Server Memory = Target Server Memory, would some of the metrics going critical indicate that providing more memory might help?

Unfortunately I know a lot of engineers who have filters sending it straight to deleted. Or they have a filter for the NMS but never look at the folder the messages are sent to.

Some of the engineers use a lot of VMs so have VMware Workstation running on the laptops. Similar to you, I just replaced the mechanical drive in my laptop with an SSD and see no need of further upgrades. (Intel i7, 8GB memory, 250GB SSD). Majority of hardware upgrades this year have just been replacing laptop drives with…

If you're just running NPM you can install the additional pollers on the same server assuming you have sufficient CPU/memory resources. From memory you can have up to about 10-15 additional polling engines but I think that is leading more towards a limitation on the SQL backend - processing, amount of data, etc.

Congrats ScottRich!

It's OK, I understand! Each state having different rules also makes it difficult. *cough* Victoria doesn't require a permit for a trade promotion lottery *cough*

Thanks - welcome to be part of the community!

THWACKcamp was great!

Congrats everyone!

As feedback, I'm not a huge fan of incentives like points for the live demos as the time zone usually makes it impractical for your APAC users.

The hint for Q15 links to the latest release notes for SAM. As a new version came out in December, it points to a different article than was most likely vetted and approved when the mission was put together. That should be enough of a hint to find the right answer.

For VNQM: * Monitoring IP SLA operations (Cisco only using the CISCO-RTTMON-MIB MIB) * Monitoring Call Managers* Cisco Unified Call Manager (CUCM) versions 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 - waiting on version 11 support * Avaya - not hugely familiar with this but Avaya Communication and Media Servers. * Monitoring Gateways - not hugely…

Also ran into the same issue - tried another browser and may have submitted the survey twice before checking the comments...

Has anyone been able to get a filter working using custom properties for this resource/widget? I'm on NCM 7.9 and still can't get it to work (unless my syntax is wrong).

Most of the time my workspace is provided by the client when I go onsite to help them with their SolarWinds implementations (such as now hence no photo). Back at the office, my desk is covered in cables, SolarWinds paraphernalia, and random "toys". Oh, and 3 x 19" gaming-related statues still in their boxes stashed under…

Fantastic grand prize this month!

This is an issue I've seen discussed with various companies. By not unmanaging the devices in SolarWinds, you can see what's happening as the devices go up/down during the maintenance but any downtime during maintenance will affect your availability statistics. If you unmanage, you miss statistics during the maintenance…

Still Sunday in the US and very early morning in Europe. It will probably be unlocked when maria.bungau gets into the office later today.

Great article. Lots to think about now.

I'm fairly sure the license info is kept in the registry to stop people just reinstalling on the same box every 30 days. The RC is seeing the evaluation license from the original install which is past the 30 days. You might be able to talk to your sales rep about a temporary license key. A longer term solution is to use a…

I remember reading somewhere that the larger font and more white space is meant to make the user feel less overwhelmed with data. Apparently users were overwhelmed with the large amount of data they could see on the page at one time. I think I'd be happier with something that met both sides about halfway. As edsando…
