  • I'm a noob at LEM! But that's not Orion. As per the others, if you are a noob, jump on this if you are having any issues or finding particular processes difficult or painful. The UX team are a great group of people who take your feedback and incorporate it into future versions.
  • The middle of the night maintenance would presumably be the nightly maintenance task that runs at 2:15 AM. You can check the logs for this maintenance task in C:\ProgramData\Solarwinds\Logs\Orion\ Look for the swdebugMaintenance.log file. In regards to the other issues: - Can you elaborate on the DNS mismatch issue? - Can…
  • Is this it?
  • Similar to superfly99, typically WAN ports, uplink/trunk ports, and ports connected to important servers/devices.
  • I'm not sure if I'm missing something or it's staring me in the face but is there a way to display the EOL/EOS dates on the NCM Node Details or Node Details pages? There is the "End of Support Devices" resource but that shows all of the devices.
  • Hey byrona, did you ever find a solution for this? I've got the same issue. Of about 80 agents deployed, 22 say the node is down but I'm still getting statistics... * Agents deployed on various servers (Windows 2008 R2, Windows 2012, Windows 2012 R2) - agent-initiated mode * Using "Agent status" for node status instead of…
  • As HerrDoktor said, turn off all the out-of-the-box alerts. They are meant as examples and you will be flooded with alerts if you leave them on. Start with a small subset of alerts (node down, interface down, hardware warning/critical, etc). There are two options for the interface monitoring: 1. Delete all the interfaces…
  • My understanding is there is a limitation in what Meraki makes available in the API and SNMP MIB. As others have mentioned, there is no config to back up for NCM as it's all in the Meraki cloud backend. There is not a huge amount of information available locally from the devices compared to the Meraki dashboard.
  • I'd suggest taking a look at the steps in the following KB article: http://knowledgebase.solarwinds.com/kb/questions/4009/Migrating+a+Local+or+Remote+Patch+Manager+Database+to+a+Remote+SQL+Server
  • It looks to be the same as the Cisco Live backpacks and they experienced the same ripping/stitching issue.
  • I am also interested in this. This also occurs if I import an email action, the CC: field selects previously used CC: addresses from other alerts instead of remaining blank.
  • It also looks like you have some very large values distorting the graph scaling. The scale is up to around 50 million but the most recent statistics are averaging 38. If you changed the zoom level to ignore the first two candlesticks you should see the data you are after.
  • How is Log Manager licensed? Most log management tools are licensed based on the volume of log data you generate. This requires you to estimate your log volume, costs can rapidly increase if you miscalculate your log volume and you may have to selectively chose which logs to send to your log management tool to stay within…
  • Not sure where to post this as I couldn't find another article. I've installed the latest versions of NPM, NCM, IPAM, SAM, NTA, SRM, VMAN, and WPM on a server today. WPM does NOT work with Windows Authentication. I had to reconfigure the system to use a local SQL account in order to get WPM to work. Every other module was…
  • Can confirm the advisor is fixed - it told me to do the step upgrade for NCM 7.4.1 -> 7.5.0 -> 7.5.1 today.
  • You can deploy the SolarWinds agent to the domain controllers where it will run as the LOCAL SYSTEM account and collect WMI information. You will need an administrator account for the initial agent installation.
  • I just came across the same issue when trying to create a similar set of alerts. As with the OP, it seems intuitive to me that a "not equal to" would include blank fields. We have an interface custom property that can have various strings (WAN, etc). The aim for the alerts is; if the property = WAN and interface goes down…
  • Depending on the query you might need to change the data aggregation to sum. i.e. You might be grabbing the last few hours of discards but it is showing the statistic from each poll and not the sum. It should have done this automatically in the web-based report. Similarly in the legacy Report Writer.
  • Have you have modified the statistics polling interval on the interface properties? I've had some users try to modify the statistics interval by editing the node properties and not the interface properties. Or did you do a global change in the polling settings?
  • For VMAN, you should be able to export your dashboard view from the Contents page. Exporting: Click on Explore > Content. Select your Dashboard view and click Export in the top right corner. This will export it as an XML file. Importing: Click on Explore > Content. Click "Import Content..." in the bottom corner, select…
  • In Manage Nodes , you can also use the Group By drop down and select Polling Engine. You will then be able to select a polling engine and see all of the nodes assigned to that particular poller. Select them all and under More Actions, select Change Polling Engine.
  • The error message does not make it clear, but you do not need to install IPAM on your additional pollers. IPAM only runs on your primary polling engine. I had the exact same question and contacted support to verify (case 443338). The support representative also referenced a previous case (352421) stating that IPAM does not…
  • Thanks Jiri and Tim. I'll look into this again next week and let you know how I go.
  • You will only get access to the component monitor level variables if you are alerting on the component. If you are using an Application alert, you can use ${N=SwisEntity;M=ApplicationAlert.ComponentsWithProblemsFormatted} as jorich mentioned. This variable will list the components with issues under the application…
  • An alternative would be to go back to the All Nodes list and implement custom properties. * Create two custom properties: Region and Site. * Fill in the region/site information for each node (the custom property editor can be used to import a csv to make this quicker). * On the view with the All Nodes resource, edit that…
  • As rickrocks mentioned, the server has a "maximum" number of elements it can poll as the default polling intervals. You can increase the number of elements you monitor by changing the polling intervals (e.g. instead of 2 minutes for status, use 5 minutes. Instead of 10 minutes for statistics, use 15 minutes, etc). You…

  • You should be able to poll the multiple OIDs and then add a "Node Tabular Universal Device Poller" resource to the Node Details page. If you click Edit, you should be able to tick/check the checkboxes next to the universal device pollers that you want to display in that single table. For example, I've been playing around…

  • This particular client is running on NPM 12.2. I went through the Orion Core platform release notes and found references to custom chart fixes in Orion 2018.2. It might be related to the first entry. I don't think it is top records as I bumped it up to 100 and it didn't resolve the issue. 00022780, 00032805, 1130747,…
  • I know that engineering is working on it but he's right that updates are glacial. 4.2.0 - Aug 2014 - Added Avaya support 4.2.2 - June 2015 - The only update all year made it compatible with web-based alerting and a few bug fixes VoIP and Network Quality Manager 4.2.2 Release Notes - SolarWinds Worldwide, LLC. Help and…
