Ken is absolutely right, you can have up to 6 columns in a view. In addition, in the latest release, you no longer have to specify the exact number of columns, you can just drag and drop a widget to an empty space, and it will create the column for you up to the 6 column limit.

As Pratik mentioned, this is fully supported in VMAN on Orion, and as of VMAN 8.0, the dependency on having an appliance is removed.
