My anniversary is September 20, 2004. Thwack's helped me get a lot more out of my Solarwinds products by being a place where I can: * Ask questions * Receive answers more quickly than provided by Solarwinds Support * Search for topics, phrases, commands, solutions * Download tools (pollers, reports, etc.) created by others…

Wow! You've put a lot of time and work into this. I'm impressed. I haven't gone through it with a fine toothed comb, but the theory looks good. On the other hand, I sync my NPM Inventory with Cisco annually and trust the process provided by Solarwinds and Cisco to work well. After the first few months of struggling I got…

More, more MORE! I'm up for more of this.

I discovered this same issue in October of 2017 after upgrading from NPM 12.0.1 to 12.2, with the accompanying upgrade of NCM. I opened a Support case with SW, they investigated it, and said this is a Cisco problem, and I should wait for Cisco to fix ASA versions. My response was that it wasn't a problem for NPM 12.0.1,…

After looking a bit, and not finding anything on that, I recommend you open a new Case with SolarWinds Technical Support. That way you have them working on your behalf while the Thwack folks try to beat them to the answer for you. Swift Packets! Rick S.

I use this method to discover ports on specific switches that have not been used recently. It enables me to recover ports going to removed PC's or printers, thus allowing me to re-use those switch ports and saves me the cost and hassle of buying additional switches. How to create a report displaying the Last Time Data was…

Yes, they do.

Here's hoping it's not Cisco who's doing the buying . . .

Here's the info you seek: Where Are My THWACKcamp 2018 Points?

Sadly, both of the links in the Correct Answer are no longer valid. If you happen to have updated links, I'd love to follow them!

The Thwack Nerf guns have been a hit with my team over the years. But they're no longer available, I see. My son's a huge fan of the Raspberry Pi I got from Thwack, but it was an MVP bit o' swag, not available for Thwack store purchase. My wife & friends like all the different Thwack socks I've given them. I'd say this…

brett.holzhauer: Is the "one Thwack backpack per member" policy still in place? I'd love to get a second one (or a third and fourth as gifts!).

The Thwack Hammock is a winner, according to my daughter, who appropriated it before I ever got to see it. She uses it in her college dormitory and about campus. This is not a problem for me--I ordered it for her, so I'm not out a hammock. ;^)

The laptop sleeve received a thumbs-up from my daughter. She likes it. I have a number of Thwack T-Shirts and Polo Shirts. All are fine products, comfortable to wear. Just make sure you get the right size and you'll be pleased, I'm pretty certain. As a fan of Chemistry, and as a former professional Chemical Engineer, I…

I'm backing up 70+ Nortel Passport 8000's with NCM 5.5. It didn't take much tweaking of the NCM template to get it to work to my satisfaction. The script looks like this: <!--SolarWinds Network Management Tools--> <!--Copyright 2007 SolarWinds.Net All rights reserved--> <Configuration-Management Device="Nortel Passport…

There are several canned reports in NPM that can provide some overall, or detailed, information for you. Plus, you can either used the pre-built Availability Reports: or custom build an SLA availability report based on your sites' business hours. How to create custom SLA reports NTA can show the top X conversations, or…

We monitor all active interfaces, but alert differently based on location and use. One alert triggers if any of a large list of critical interfaces goes down. In it I defined Critical Interfaces as those which are uplinks/downlinks or resilient links within port-channels, plus a variety of special ports. A different report…

I've successfully tested 20 character passwords. I'd expect password management to be done globally, higher up in Active Directory, than managing them individually in SolarWinds. If not done in AD, then auditors must be given access into SolarWinds administration to verify compliance--no one wants that if they can get…

I can't speak for most of those devices, but I have 2960X switches, and they seem underpowered for the demand UDT puts on them. Obviously you don't have access devices plugged into your core or distribution switches, and Cisco's three-layer design (access, distribution, core) means you'd have no need to poll core devices…

While I think it would be sweet to have the Premier Support, the costs can work out to be equivalent to hiring your own full-time or half-time employee while being limited to having them work solely on being available if you ever have Solarwinds questions. If you have a very large amount of customers paying you for your…

I force SSH v2 for all CLI transactions. If we're talking about the same thing, here's where you set it: Does this fill your requirements? We don't allow Telnet or http for any configurations, but you can always allow them on a per-device basis by editing a node and changing the protocol away from the Global Defaults…

I'm interested in this, too--but I ran a snmp walk on my Nexus hardware and the above OID's aren't present. How are folks measuring / alerting on jitter present in connections through Cisco Nexus gear?

I think you'll find the information you want by going to the NCM Server, starting up the NCM Admin Console, selecting a node on the left, then selecting the Inventory tab on the right, and using the drop-down bar to choose Interfaces. You can accomplish the same thing from the NCM Web Console: 1. Open the NCM web page 2.…

Long ago I abandoned our English/American "standard" date format, preferring to use the order of year, month, and day for all of my personal files--especially for naming and indexing family photographs. March 14, 2019, or 3/14/19, is unwieldy for simpler computer programs to properly sort quickly and intuitively, where…

I verify seeing the same behavior in my Cisco network. But consider tweaking your testing slightly, just to be 100% certain of the actual cause and condition. We all expect that disabling port-security on a switchport "should be" all that is taken into account by the switch, no matter what other port-security settings are…

Solarwinds NCM keeps configuration, by default, in this location on every poller C:\ProgramData\Solarwinds\NCM\Config-Archive Solarwinds recommends you NOT store archived files onboard Solarwinds servers, so the config files are not lost in case the server is down or deleted. If you change the storage location manually,…

If it helps you feel less bad martian monster , I added up our SQL and Oracle instances and databases and looked up the list price for covering them all with SAM and DPA. List price was over $1M. Someone from SW was quick to point out that quantity discounts were available, and that it was unlikely we'd be asked to pay…

The beauty of Orion is that you can set it to direct all the alerts to your peers, so you have the time to take care of #1 and #2.
