I, too, received one of these over the weekend. 8GB! Not bad! I'd forgotten the Byte Club was going to send fun prizes. 'Tis the season, apparently!

I'm happy to report I have all my answers and UDT is working as desired now. The short answer is that getting the most recent upgraded version of NAM (which includes UDT), AND also getting the latest Hot Fix for it, AND including all L3 / Routing devices in UDT has solved the issues I was experiencing. UDT is reliable now.…

Is it possible NetPath has discovered that node by a different IP address than it is known by NPM? For example, if you've got NPM & NCM managing it via a loopback0 at 192.168.20.20, but the actual hop to/from it discovered by NetPath is 10.10.20.20, would that explain why NetPath isn't aware of its details? Similarly, if…

Do you have the option to think and act out of the box? Can you simply change NPM/NCM from monitoring the current interface and begin monitoring the Interface discovered by NetPath? It seems like that might give you the information you want.

Oh my goodness! AND you have your bobble-head doll! Mine never came when I made MVP in 2015 . . . :^( Seriously, the colors (clash?) are intense!

While I don't have the answer you seek, I have over a hundred sites with WAN pipes from 5 Mb to multi-gig, serving 17,000 employees across several states, and all my routers have Netflow enabled. Better still, I have about sixty physicians and transcriptionists who work from home with ASA's providing VPN termination to…

I like the discussion. Is it possible to use information from a trap or syslog message to trigger the map color change? Keeping in mind that a remote device may not be able to send a trap or syslog message to NPM, or receive a poll from NPM, if its network path is down due to losing a BGP neighbor or OSPF relation. In this…

What reasons would there be for duplicating your environment instead of using a Failover solution from SW? I purchased the NAM licensing last fall, which includes the Failover Engine. Once that's set up, polling and reporting continues even though your Main Poller and APE's may be down. Isn't that the solution you really…

The subject of this thread sounds good . . . But isn't it too late if Wannacry is present? I'd expect you'd know WannaCry was in your network by seeing this:

Agreed--disable SMB1 everywhere. These should NOT have to be said: * Keep your systems patched * Keep your systems up-to-date with anti-virus / anti-malware solutions * Back up your files to off-line / off-site storage solutions * Retire obsolete operating systems like XP * Do all these things in a timely fashion It…

If adding the "do" to the script while in config mode doesn't work, consider adding a little more information about your goal so we can tweak the script a little better for you. When I read your challenge I came away thinking you wanted to not have port-security engaged on specified ports--or all ports--on a switch. You…

Here are some ideas to consider: * Average utilization or percentile may not be good measurements for determining when to upgrade ISP bandwidth unless you average across a very tiny time span. * Average trending can help you estimate a date by which you might anticipate problems occurring because ISP bandwidth will be 100%…

That's a good challenge. If NCM can't handle the $ in your script, you may need to open a ticket with SW Support to find a work around. They'll want to know the brand & model of network equipment the script is supposed to modify. In fact, including that information with your ticket might tickle someone else who has your…

I had a somewhat similar experience, and I opened a TAC case with Cisco while simultaneously working with Solarwinds Support. I found misconfigured traffic / credentials were causing high CPU utilization on the Nexus 7009's, which resulted in loss of ICMP response due to insufficient Nexus resources. Work with TAC and SW…

If you have UDT or an equivalent product, you can discover all devices attached to every switch port, and build a user-based report on that. Then keep that data where you can find it in an outage/emergency and use it to generate e-mail or lists of affected users. You could also discover this information manually on a…

I like the suggestions from mesverrum. He's on the right track for you. Some other ideas we use: * I have a PC devoted to running just the Engineer's Tool Set suite, and specific/special problem devices get their own monitoring gauge. I don't view the monitoring gauge output, but I DO set the Tool to provide the…

I recommend you call or send an e-mail to your Solarwinds Sales Engineer. They're trained to understand your environment and needs, and they have access to Engineers who can provide valuable technical expertise to you.

If we had a way to clone an existing user's SW rights and apply it to new users, it would save a lot of work on the user administration side of operation NPM. Today I have to create a test AD user, log into SW and see what rights and views it has. Simultaneously I log into it SW as an admin and change those rights and…

You can configure NCM to ignore differences in crypto lines when you do config change reports. Just start NCM's admin console on its host server, then go to File > Settings, scroll down to Configs, and choose Comparison Criteria. I use a pattern there named "Ignoring crypto lines". I don't recall if I built this, or if it…

Perhaps this earlier Thwack case can help? https://thwack.solarwinds.com/message/99796#9979 Rick S.

The same thing happened where I work. Eventually I opened up the Alerts (basic and advanced) and looked at all the actions assigned to each one. I found the list of users receiving the alerts and adjusted it. Still more notifications were going to employees who were left. I found more rules with triggers and actions in the…

This sounds like a great question to research in the VNQM manual and Thwack (use the magnifying glass link in the upper right of this forum, and enter in key words in which you're interested). But if nothing useful appears, I recommend opening a Support ticket with Solarwinds. Please, if you find the answer, remember to…

Oh, there are so MANY ways to do this! Let's cover a few easy ones: 1. Connect to the firewall, through which the traffic is passing. It should have all KINDS of interesting records in it, log files, audit activity. If it were a Unix-based firewall running FreeBSD in a hardened kernel, you might use a statement like this…

Cisco 3800's aren't EOL or EOS as far as I know. That would explain why there's no link. What you describe sounds confusing, and might simply be a little bug. I recommend you contact Solarwinds Technical Support and ask this question directly to them. For fastest experience, open your case online, and then attach screen…

If you're running NPM's newer versions, consider enabling WMI on the servers hosting the pollers, then using admin credentials to add QoE to them. Then you'll have a more granular picture of what's actually going on inside them, and be able to alert on that. NPM can alert on services, if I recall correctly, and if you have…

Historically, a direct telephone call to Solarwinds Support resulted in faster resolution than creating an online ticket. If this is critical to you or your business, definitely call them.

You can use NCM to make bulk password changes to any network device that will accept a change via CLI--it's easy & simple. First remember that you'll need a different script for any devices that need a different format. If you're running a lot of different kinds of gear, you'll need to build the right script for each one,…

That's unusual behavior. I suggest you collect a set of Diagnostics and submit a new case to Solarwinds Support online. Once you have the ticket created, and the diagnostics uploaded, then call SW Support and reference the ticket number. Include screen shots and descriptions of what's happening, along with changes to your…

That info might be dependent on the type of Report, or how the Report was created (via Report Writer or via Web-based). I see an option to export to Excel in some reports:
