I'd gladly trade Log Manager for a Solarwinds Data Warehouse . . . Someplace we could store specified outputs so I could show five and ten year trending, or something longer than errors/throughput for a few weeks or months.

It's a pretty display. Can it replace Splunk? Can it alert me when malicious behavior by packets / flows is detected, and advise me what actions to take, like Splunk does?
-
Still fun to look at these old posts, see the improvements that have come over the years.

The above suggestions are all great ones. But let's think out of the box: would you benefit more from being better able to make friends and influence people and by being more confident in interview and more comfortable speaking in public, than you would be earning another technical certification? Sure, it's great to know…
-
Before making recommendations about certifications, can we have some context about the hypothetical person receiving our suggestions? I'd recommend something different to an experienced IT pro than to a young person still in school. Lots of things are going to be intuitive: * Get the cert(s) that enable you to achieve your…

Matt, I back up our ASA's using the simple Enable option; you should be able to do that too. Make sure you have the correct Enable password installed on NCM, right below the Enable option. There should be no need to choose and Enable Level. Good luck! Rick
-
It sounds like perhaps you simply need to use "No Enable" in a test, and then review the logs to see the errors. If you ssh to the ASA as yourself, and then enter your password, I'm assuming you're only at the > prompt, instead of the enabled # prompt. Then you type "enable" and enter a password, to get to #. NCM will work…

Although I don't have the information you request, I would very much like to learn about your experience with UDT. I'm considering it for my organization, too.

You can accomplish everything but the hourly notification via Basic Alert in NPM. Use the Advanced Alert creation for that; the steps are virtually identical to building a Basic Alert, with the addition of the one-per-hour option. Basic Alert Creation Example: 1. Open Basic Alert Manager on your NPM Server. 2. Configure…

I suspect that option is selectable in the Jobs that run your backups. Edit the Jobs that perform your backups and look for this highlighted opeion in the "Add Job Specific Details" window. Check it and save it. That should get you what you need. Swift packets!

I've done something similar to this in the past; perhaps you can leverage my process and customize it to your needs:

You can find the logo by looking under the covers, so to speak. With the page displayed showing the logo, right-click on the page and choose View Source in your web browser. Find the html that references the logo (you may need to right-click on the logo and get its properties, to find its name). Then search for that logo's…

NCM can push out CLI scripts to managed devices that use command line configuration management. If all your devices used the same CLI command, you'd just select the nodes in NCM's Configuration Management page, click Execute Script, enter the script exactly as needed, and apply it. If some devices use one kind of command,…

We have NAM; I like much about it. We don't have SAM or DPA, and I miss them. I believe they should be mandatory, and probably bundled with NAM or built into NPM by default. If / when we move to a different product, Prometheus is currently a top competitor for our attention.

I, too, have encountered this problem. If you understand how to remove and recreate the tree view (left pane) in Network Performance Monitor, and would not mind sharing that procedure, please e-mail it to me at avsaxman@yahoo.com. Thank you.

All active alerts for 500 points? I'm in!
-
All this, and Cruel Shoes, too? Love it! Carlo spoke hesitantly, "... Now you see... they' re not fit for humans..."
-
I've added many nodes by IP address, and NPM always discovers their FQDNs. I'd bet the video shows IP addresses because that's the "View By" or "Group By" option chosen off to the side. You can certainly view by Node Name.

I'm in a similar position--points ready to burn, but I've already selected all the swag I like. It's too bad the points can't transfer to credit card or Pay Pal account. There are things I'd get from Gander Mountain or Home Depot or Cabela's. I guess anything purchased with Thwack points would have to have Thwack or Solar…

I verified today (20161013) that Orion NCM currently doesn't support MFA.
-
What's the status of this? Has it been provided / resolved / enabled for Orion suites?
-
Well, the actual vertical Edit panel is associated with your NPM user privileges. If you want to get rid of THAT, you must create a user account without Edit privileges and log in with it instead of your normal user account. But I haven't done that yet, and I stopped getting the Hint you attached after I first saw…

Your focus is accurate, and I agree with your every point. I'd love for my SolarWinds to be more automated and full-featured. To your list, I'd also include: * Automatic setup of device by category (switch, router, etc.). I'm talking monitoring of them, but their actual config setup, through NCM, leveraging Remediation…

Shouldn't I be afraid to click on something that warns about what happens when users click on unknown links . . .?

There are some great resources in Thwack that deal with customizing alerts using what sounds like exactly what you're asking for. You can search Thwack for "Customizing Alerts" and come up with some great questions & answers.

I installed this Hotfix a week ago (8/16/2019) without serious issues. I found a few places where the user experience could be improved, but after a few missteps and some concern on my side about red items alerting me to things that I didn't need to be alerted on, it ultimately installed without issue. Some ideas for…
-
What was the resolution for this issue?
-
Might this be caused by the volume not being present when NPM and WMI discovered the node initially? Could you remove it from NPM and then re-add it back in as a new node through WMI, and list resources to see the additional volume?
-
Unless someone here in Thwack has the answer, I'd suggest you open a Support Case with Solar Winds. You can always close it, or compare answers if someone provides some ideas here. At worst you've got multiple experts working for you, with one team guaranteed to get the answer you need, and with the other team potentially…
