If no one has an update, I suggest contacting SW Support and opening a ticket. I won't be surprised to learn they're on top of this, but we won't be in the loop if someone doesn't open a ticket and then publish their results in this forum.

In my environment, if there's an active link with packets flowing or stats incrementing, I monitor it. But that's why I have four "Unlimited" poller licenses, and am getting a fifth. If your WAN mini-port is not connected to anything, not being used, don't monitor it--unless you want info that could be used for a security…

Yes, a secondary SMTP server option is present to help ensure your messages get through when the primary SMTP server is unavailable. Some good history of the feature request can be found here: The "How to implement" information is here: SMTP configuration and email settings for scheduled reports and alerts - SolarWinds…

Could it be an issue of timing? If NCM sends the script out as fast as it can, but the switch takes considerable time copying via tftp, I can imagine the NCM script timing out and failing to reload. Would the solution be to have two jobs, one to copy the new image over, and the second job being the reload of the…

I track and graph the changes in the number of devices that are in Compliance using a graph function in NCM's Config Summary page. Maybe this might be what you're looking for? First Customize the page and add a new feature to one of its columns. If Overall Policy Violations is there in that page already you could simply…

Since snmp v1 and 2 are insecure, using snmp-v3 for discovery and inventory not only solves the security issue, but it works great. I use SSH and get all our Nexus configs without issue--if you haven't a great reason not to use SSH, give it a try.

My experiences have lead me to follow a slightly different path for contacting support for issues that need faster resolution: * Open a ticket online. * Attach any files, all descriptions, screen shots, explanations of recent changes, and most importantly: Exactly what I want from Support during this case. It helps for…

I visit the customer portal when I can't get what I need from Thwack--not that often. It covers things like license moves or updates for the Toolset (not a good experience compared to other vendors' sites!), opening tickets for support, trying to get access to MVP items. I joined Thwack in 2004 almost immediately after…

I'm into Thwack perhaps a dozen times a day--maybe more. Also from home on evenings and weekends. I'm looking for answers to my questions, and looking for questions from others that I can answer. I spend a lot of time with NCM and NPM and NTA, with somewhat less time devoted to the Toolset, and NTM and Atlas. I just…

As a SW customer I go to Thwack because the online application guides and help pages don't answer my questions. If/when Thwack doesn't have the answers I need (Yes, I can see the button enables or disables an option. Why should I consider either one as an option? What are the ramifications of either choice?), then I used…

Sadness. Always read the Product Upgrade Advisor and follow it exactly. When an app is too expensive for your needs, and you stop buying its support, it's understandable that other things that are designed to tie together won't allow you to proceed as you imagined/hoped. As others said above, you'll need to remove it from…

Impressive skills. We are not worthy!

There is another option that may help you: In NCM, select the device for which you wish to discover the Chassis ID & Serial Number. On the right side, click on the Inventory tab. Use the pull-down menu to go to Inventory Physical Entities/Serial Numbers. Hopefully you'll scroll through it and see the information you need.

Will's suggestion is the right one. If you, or someone else, has already completed this task for remote archiving, then you can safely delete a device in NPM and still see its config files anytime. Actually, I have to remember to occasionally go into the remote archive and delete devices whose configs I definitely don't…

Would this work for you? There are some other options that may be useful to choose from: I even found a canned report right in NPM that looks like it could easily be copied & edited for your specific needs:

Another option you could consider is using NetPath to monitor the node from multiple polling stations. It's easy to add multiple different SolarWinds pollers into a NetPath monitor solution, and that can give you additional data from the point of view of each poller. The only alternate solution I can think of, other than…

I have seven polling engines monitoring nodes in three states, but I don't have a method of monitoring the same device from two different pollers unless I want to monitor a second IP address on that device. But there's a work around, of sorts, for my needs. I've found that sometimes my WAN provider occasionally has routing…

Darn, I'd like to help, but with a hundred+ routers, some with several dozen SVI's or sub-interfaces, I can't duplicate the issue here. I bet you're well aware that the 2801 stopped being sold in 2011 and it went EOL/EOS in 2016. For best security you might advice your management to budget for a forklift upgrade soon.…

Can you create a scheduled report that manually issues the equivalent "sho ip arp" command against that Sup 720, then bundles it up for you and e-mails it to you? Alternately, have you looked at the SQL query that generates the data you want in Kiwi CatTools, and tried to modify it with SWQL to use the correct Sup720…

I'll confess I don't envision a great way to do this yet with Orion, but I've seen organizations handle this challenge using taxonomic labels from nature. For example: All applications are named after species of sea life. Variations within those applications are named for specific groups or similar kinds--species of…

When you configure the TFTP and SCP pages, you're telling your pollers where to store files, or where to retrieve files from. You don't have to setup separate directories on every Solarwinds server manually--it's done automatically for you when you install the product on each server. The config page allows you to tweak &…

I use it. There are some limitations that are difficult to overcome (challenges finding information about how to use it with snmp-v3 instead of v2 or v1, challenges when a Cisco ASA is the router for one or more subnets), but I use it. Contact me if you'd like to discuss this.

I've had similar issues. All were resolved with a little sleuthing and some common sense. Watch out for . . . * Server backups happening during your scheduled jobs. My SA's were backing up my Orion pollers at night, right when NCM was doing its nightly backups. Adjusting the server backups so my NCM servers were backing up…

There are additional methods to discover duplex issues, too. * Use NPM's Syslog-based alerts that fire off an e-mail to your team when you have discards and errors on interfaces. There might be other causes for them, but duplex mismatches cause loads of discards and errors and retransmits. * Use NCM to build a Duplex…

Here are some paths you can follow, and some ideas you can verify, to see what might have been missed or built incorrectly: * Remember that logging in as Administrator instead of as a "normal" user can give you access to many more areas of control * From the main NCM web page, after logging in as Administrator, go to…

I'm installing 2019.4 today, along with HF3 and HF5. So far no problems, and I have backups of the database and snapshots of the main instance and six APE's. However, the main instance does seem to be sitting a very long time on this page (over an hour) without any helpful information or errors or progress reported. Even…

I agree with the overall complaints, and have experienced the exact same slow response to a Medium priority request. Some years ago I was getting same-day response, and calls from folks in Ireland for incidents I'd open. More recently I've found that Thwack members respond more quickly than paid Support, by two or three…
