This would be high priority for me if we had SQL 2016. Hoping to get it by the fall.

This week I spent an hour with a team reviewing a new product that will give us more useful path info. It won't replace NetPath, but it WILL be fast and easier to get useful data. An NDA prevents me from speaking more about it. Hopefully it will be made public in the next six months so we can all enjoy it.

We moved all our TACACS from ACS to ISE this past year--ISE is MUCH more stable (and powerful) than ACS. That said, we're having problems with RADIUS on ISE--it's not handling RADIUS transactions properly, and not all of our equipment is compatible with TACACS. So we still have ACS in play until TAC/Cisco fixes the ISE…

You can't get more functionality for ASA's and Firepower Threat Defense too soon for me. We're heavily invested there, and buying deeper all the time.
-
Wow. You did some very impressive troubleshooting--above & beyond the call. SW Support should be sending you their thanks and 10,000 points.

I get what's going on in that set of commands. It would be nice if there were a radio button that enabled this feature in NPM, right out of the box. Or, it'd also be OK if one day SQL or SWQL commands looked like intuitive English phrases. But that kind of logic would be mighty twisted on the back end to be successful.…

I like what you've provided here. May I offer a gentle and friendly correction? CBQOS stands for "Class-based Quality Of Service", not "Cisco Based Quality of Service." An easy typo to make, and I humbly request your forgiveness for being so bold as to point it out.

Yowza! Impressive.

You should sit in on my UX meetings or troubleshooting meetings with ding orserena. Or get a look at the suggestions or e-mail threads they (and their peers) receive from me on occasion. This was a breeze! ;^) And don't forget to sing along when Thwack is down for maintenance on a rare Friday, using the lyrics found…

Understood. Hopefully, with good ideas, good solutions may result.

I'm happy to see updates and information about product improvement. Thanks for ensuring we know things are happening.

Too swamped due to under-staffing. Know any CCIE's or top-notch CCNP's with a load or design experience? I'm looking for bodies, including a Networl Architect. ASAP.

That does sound safest. Thanks.

Thank you, wluther, for the support. I need the pre-walk / pre-crawl instructions, so I don't damage the SQL infrastructure. Specifically, I just saw PowerShell for the first time yesterday. And it turns out the folks who gave me advice to use it weren't even in the right page for my needs. But I didn't know that. Heck,…

Wow. It's so apparent I'm far out of the Orion-tweaking crowd by not having SQL skills. Where does one go to find the baby steps instructions to begin the catch-up journey?

I've attached an old Nortel ESM drawing example; these kinds of drawing, broken down by site and region, were extremely useful back in the day. Nodes were discovered, I'd drag & drop them where they made sense in relation to switch blocks and states and physical sites. The links would auto-populate. No manual Visio work at…

Thank you for the response & request for clarifications. See them inline below: NTM's discovery/display was too thorough without providing the right amount or type of filters. It could show me a map with all 60,000+ nodes on it, or a map with every switch and router AND every L3 / VLAN (as a separate line), but didn't…
-
I accomplish this using the Toolset's Bandwidth Gauge, then select Historical Graph as the option for display. But I like your idea of having this built into NPM, and temporarily activating it on a short-term basis for a single interface. It would reduce the need to purchase the Toolset (slightly reduce, that is). Put your…

The challenge seems to be, as it always has been with NTM, providing the right amount of data without including too much information. NTM was too thorough without providing the right amount of filters. It could show me a map with all 60,000+ nodes on it, or a map with every switch and router AND every L3 / VLAN (as a…

Uffda! This really should be automated by SW, to be the superior solution when compared to all other network monitoring companies.
-
You certainly appear to have the process down! I submit to Solarwinds that this process should be automatic. The upgrade solution should do all these things by itself. Minus the DEV environment, of course. But that DEV environment should come free (in limited size) and in unlimited license duration for every instance of…

I recommend monitoring every port. Yes, it's expensive and time consuming. But it's the cost of correctly supporting a network, in my opinion. How else can you do right by your clients, if you're not able to learn which ones have high collisions, retransmit, and CRC's due to something as simple as speed/duplex mismatches…

One of my team members (yesterday) planned to go from NPM 12.0 to 12.0.1, then NCM 7.5 to the current, and NTA 4.2.0 to the current. It took longer than expected, and he was only able to accomplish NPM's upgrade. NCM and NTA upgrades are coming tomorrow evening when he has additional time. If I could wave a magic wand and…

If you have 13,000+ nodes, 17 polling engines may not be overkill. It depends on the nodes and how many elements you want to monitor on each. Imagine each node is a Cisco 4510, fully populated. 384 ports, plus SVI's, plus hardware, plus ports that are "security-controlled" and "security-not-controlled". You might wish to…

Sign me up! I just bought NAM and have installed IPAM 4.5.2, but haven't gotten it working yet. What better timing to get the new version installed and working? I tried clicking on all of the links above--none allowed me in. Please adjust my account to have access? I use Infoblox for DHCP / IPAM services, and I'd love to…

What should one expect to see after the change? Nothing, now with NPM 12.2 and higher? Franky, I didn't see significant or obvious changes after applying the tweak in your 10.7 example. What's the end goal?

nickzourdos, I gave your suggestion (above) a shot this morning, editing the file and saving it and restarting my SolarWinds services. I don't see a difference in the versions before & after. I don't get the folder icons you show, don't see things that you show on your modified version: Any suggestions or recommendations?…

Always loving updates to NPM . . .

I find myself trying to do a better job of limiting data in PerfStack when I want to simply display data throughput for multiple interfaces on one or more devices. For example, I have a pair of Cisco Nexus 7009 core routers, and I'd like to show only throughput in bits per second (or Mb/s or Kb/s) for every active…
