It just shows how deep and subtle Radioteacher is. He remains my hero.

It's sort of what I'm looking for. I was aware of this page, and thank you for reminding me of it. The problem with referencing this page is there's no guarantee that any particular device will actually use a specific template--only a hope or expectation that will happen. Instead, I am hoping to discover some table or…

Would you be willing to share that SQL query with us? I'm stuck up against that same wall--I don't have a graceful way to create a report showing which devices use which templates. Please? With (virtual) bacon on it?

Yes, much of what you've done here I've duplicated in our systems, but I omitted in the spirit of brevity. Our policy is to forbid snmp RW since we want everything to be tracked via TACACS and AD permissions, and only done via scripting. Even with snmp-v3, I prefer to have a great log that shows who did what, and how they…

Holy moley, Rocky! That's a skill set I wish I had.

Nick, you can have them reference Case Ticket 1353740.

It was in the PreRelease 17 BD. Now that it's deployed, Support just wrote me these instructions to proceed: " For the next step, you will need to contact your Database administrator. Try running the SQL queries below. Delete from udt_nodecapability where nodeid in (select nodeid from nodesdata where objectsubtype = 'WMI')…

Opt for belt AND suspenders: never let your backups become isolated or unavailable due to a network outage, firewall issue, etc. Keep a current local copy as well as a secure remote copy of your configs / backups.

Well, I've applied a LOT of various hot fixes & Buddy Drops, but I'm not certain I've got the latest ones. Specifically, which ones are you referencing? I'll go through my main NPM instance and all the pollers to check to confirm everything you say that should be installed is already installed.

We use SW NPM 9.1 SP5 to monitor our 50+ Nortel 8300's. It works well. Nortel supports IPFIX, but there are a few conditions/limitations: ERS 8300: Must be version 4.2 firmware on the 8300. Requires 256 MB RAM on the 8393SF or 8394SF. 4.2 firmware has not been released to the public yet (as of 4/30/2009). ERS 8600: Must be…

Thank you, John. In this case I need this user to be able to edit a specific report, but make no other changes. I expected that giving him Read-Only rights would impede his ability to change this one report. But it isn't working now. I may as well change his rights to Read-Only and see if that does it. The odd / awkward…

Use NPM to create a new Map. Drag the nodes you want displayed onto the map and put them into a pretty order. Rename the nodes so your high-level staff can understand which city or facility or department each one represents. Name the map appropriately for your audience. Give them Read-only rights to it. If necessary,…

It IS an interesting situation. The link is here: Troubleshooting Input Queue Drops and Output Queue Drops - Cisco I was unable to get Thwack to accept my previous response, so I made a screen shot & pasted it in. But that eliminates the ability for you to click on the link. What is the relationship of the three links to…

Resolving that issue has become the responsibility of one of my friends, so I'm no longer worrying about it. Sorry. Not the answer you were hoping for, I know. Swift Packets! Rick Schroeder

This is an old thread--I don't recall which hotifix did the job, and we're already on 2019.2. It works fine in this environment.
-
It'll depend on the version you're running, but I believe you've probably found the right one. So far I've had no problems with any of my Orion modules after installing hot fixes (since 2004!); I suspect you'll be safe installing it.

The only other test might be to send fully-loaded packets in the ping and verify the larger packets (1500 bytes) are not being dropped. Use "ping x.x.x.x -t -w 1 -l 1500". Ordinary ping tests from windows boxes only send 32 bytes of data instead of 1500. I've seen cases where small (default) ping packets pass successfully,…

It's the best laptop backpack I've seen anywhere. The multiple laptop zippered sections on the strap side could easily hold four modern (thin) laptops. Plus the internal "main" section has dividers for a few more. The external zipper pouches let me keep frequently-used items where I can go directly to them. I have three…

Please say more about this. I'm not getting the hint.

Yes, this is part of a Cisco NAC solution. I hadn't thought of doing a SPAN on the ports going to Orion. I come from the days when Cisco advised that monitor sessions were OK for temporary use, but not to be left in place long-term. The bigger and newer hardware isn't nearly so limiting, though.

Well, we DO have multiple F5's . . . But none are in the Netflow / Solarwinds solution. Therefore they're out of this particular picture, since I want to simplify the network forwarding of Netflow traffic to a third-party solution. Configuring VIPs and RIPs and pools and Health Checks and iRules on the one side, and then…

There's one more thing in the historic reporting options that's been a problem for me, and I wonder if you're running into it, too. When I have the historic data being stored for a long enough period, and I go to query it in a report, I have zero success if the report range includes "today". My suspicion for why a report…

I'm looking to discover exactly how to find the right syntax to change from your environment to mine. What should I look for to be different from your commands: select nodes.caption as 'UPS Device' , CustomPollerAssignmentView.CurrentValue as 'Battery Temperature' from CustomPollerAssignmentView inner join nodes on…

Thank you for the good instructions. I look forward to trying them out tomorrow or the next day. Yours, Rick Schroeder

That did it--thank you! Rick

Don't forget about the "hay".

I suspect there are different types of sales people, some more helpful and useful and responsive than others. My SE responds quickly--within a few hours--anytime I reach out to him via e-mail, or if I mention him in Thwack. He has pricing information, of course, but he also has a "real" SW engineer sitting across from him,…

Please forgive me for re-pasting something from two days ago, but it seems timely and pertinent: To minimize my SW Support Call stress, I follow the this process: * Research the application's Manual and look for the answer myself. If the problem has anything to do with configuring SW products, or understanding how to use…

That issue is a known bug. Don't waste time on it. It'll get fixed sooner or later. I experienced it, opened a ticket, was told they were aware of it and are working on it. I don't mind being without it. I lived without it in NPM for the last thirteen years, I'll be cool without it for another thirteen.
