An unforgettable month. In which that ONE non-intuitive question / answer will haunt me forever . . .

That could become a new IT Geek Super Power! The ability to defeat bacon's negative effects on waistlines and arteries, while still allowing one to east as much bacon as desired.

Actually, I think swag actually is more enjoyable when bacon is present, but without bacon, swag is still good. As is bacon without swag.

It certainly doesn't make more hours in the day. From an agrarian economy it seems to have made some sense, enabling businesses to better stay in sync with farmers. From a personal point of view, I like driving to work in the morning with some light in the sky, and coming home in the evening with some light in the sky. DST…

Pay no attention to statistics that say "You won't win." Be active, participate, contribute, answer questions, create polls, submit papers, participate in every User Experience opportunity you can find. And you'll come away with skills, new friends, a better-configured Solarwinds environment, and points. Of course, those…

A tiny typo in the first week's prize's name? I see this cooker can operate for up to 240 minutes. At 1,000 Watts. I suddenly envision leaving a 1,000-Watt hair dryer running for four hours, watching the electric meter spinning. That better be some awesome food that comes out of it!

Whoops. Somehow I thought this was your article. Silly me! tinmann0715 is the current hero, and my apologies for my mistake.

Yep--we've seen in-house apps/hardware go unavailable. But it's a different situation when we're in control. Human error, lack of hardware resilience, insufficient planning/discovery/designed redundancy/imagination--these are all things we manage and control. When our best plans go awry, we blame ourselves, learn, and move…

The story about Nike's self-lacing shoes reminded me of an old joke about a different tennis shoe experience. "I bought some shoes off of a drug dealer. I don't know what he laced them with but I've been trippin' all day.

Nothing like having the basics in one spot, clear and easy to understand.

I just reached the point where I've been stepping back to re-evaluate my team's tool sprawl. It seems we're going in the right direction, but still increasing our time spent with tools, learning new ones, not retiring old ones, and configuring existing ones to get more bang for the buck. I'm at the point where I need more…

"HEPTIO", "HADOOP", . . . What's next? The Hully-Gully?

I went through this twice, once with an all 3Com network in the 90's (33 sites, 14,000 users), and again with an all-Nortel network about nine years ago In both cases, the loss of a future path for upgrades and support was devastating. In both cases our teams made the conscious decision to maximize our chances of never…

That sounds wryly therapeutic--and you made me smile. I bet it doesn't comply with OSHA regulations. Stay safe while securing those hard drives, my friend.

I realize the forum is provided by Solarwinds, a monitoring product. Yet I'd be interested in paul.parker's take on what we should do with the information our monitoring systems provide? Further, how do we verify we're getting all the information needed? That we haven't missed a tool to use to interpret the traps &…

Watching her run down the vertical side of a skyscraper was a great experience in one of her later movies, if my mind is correctly associating actress to film F/X.

Given that this thread is eight years old, you might have improved responses to your questions if you opened a new thread by clicking Create and selecting Discussion: I have no direct experience with your specific environment or limitations, but my thoughts on your questions follow: 1: Can NTA be configured on USA server…

Can it replace the SIEM functionality, bad-pattern-recognition, alerting, and massive amount of messages per second capabilities of our Splunk? Or is it sized like LEM?

I wasn't familiar with the Manga or the general character when it first began being advertised so I downloaded the first few episodes in Kindle Unlimited and checked them out. In my opinion: * The Manga's story line is much weaker than the movie * The conflicting characters in the Manga were definitely comic book people;…

Your reactions to discovering Ransomware are correct--disconnect/shut down/isolate anything you can to keep the problem from expanding across your network. I recently asked an FBI agent how to react when Ransomware appears within my organization, what checklist of things should we have ready to perform? I expected he'd say…

The idea continues to grow. PfR, ACI, UCS, VM, IWAN--all solutions to facilitate the cohabitation of software and hardware. And all designed to make things more efficient, leverage Moore's Law, and aid growth and design and security.

The only saving grace was logic. The answers, when compared to the hint page (you don't even have to watch the video) are easily eliminated, leaving only one possibility. Occam's Razor at its best!

The presentation is very positive; who wouldn't be drawn to this both, to its fun and youthful and enthusiastic and experienced people? I look forward to being able to attend one day.

Without April there's no May. Without awkwardness, no poise. Without mast there is no sail. Without darkness, there are no stars. Without a Solarwinds Dark Theme option, there is no contentment.

It's all good until you run into the first time SLO hits SILO.

One only has the option for one-size-fits-all when all are one size. It's nice that SW allows us to pick & choose modules, add more APEs and Web Servers. My network is more than three times larger now than it was when I started with NPM and NCM back in 2004. NAM allows me to grow and fit the need.

Unfollow Everybody? How about taking a step towards practicality and not using Twitter at all? Maybe taking time to be WITH people who matter--in person! And then drop out of and uninstall insecure social media apps like Instagram and SnapChat, which steal your data and compromise your security, in even more vulnerable…
