I've got the same issue. I want to prove that all our ESX hosts are running on an acceptable time. They are supposed to be collecting time from ntp.org, but if they were to "forget" to do that for a while it would be really nice to know before the drift becomes significant. At the moment I have access to the hosts by RO…

Check out this thread. http://thwack.solarwinds.com/thread/36990 The report lists most of what is required.

Has no-one else ever had this problem? Reporting the settings of alerts, templates, components and thresholds from both NPM & APM is often required to satisfy auditors. The All Nodes managed by NPM under the default NPM Summary tab and the All Applications Tree resource under the default SAM Summary page presents most of…

You need "dependencies". Possible, but a bit messy at the moment, but due in the next release of NPM.

and in v11 it's in the web console > All Active alerts > More >

Hi, The new SCP exams are open for business. Take a look at SolarWinds Certified Professional https://support.solarwinds.com/Success_Center/SolarWinds_Academy/Solarwinds_Certified_Professional where you'll find links to training and then register for exams at https://www.solarwinds.com/certification/network-certification

Does no-one else have a problem with the date format?
-
I completely agree. Clarity on what "OK" or "Done" actually means and does is crucial. Too many times buttons follow a question where "OK" or "Cancel" are not valid answers. That's not just within SolarWinds products, it's throughout the industry. Clarity is everything.

I like it, looks fresh. Just one issue though. On the old one I'd log on to Thwack, hit the SolarWinds Icon, then the Customer Portal Icon and I'd be straight into my customer account, but I can't see a SolarWinds icon at the top of the Thwack screen anymore. The only one I've found is right at the bottom of the page. It…

Seems like you're looking for 1. pc to auto power up 2. pc to auto logon 3. browser to auto start and 4. page top be auto displayed. 1. could be a BIOS change 2. can be an GPO with the PC set into a kiosk mode 3. drag the browser into the startup folder 4. set the browser up to remember your login and use your Orion site…

Nice detail. Thanks I just submitted Load balancing Additional Web Servers, F5 & AWS and it looks like we need to bring all of this info into a "best practice" & guidelines doc.
-
Orion was originally a hub and spoke monitoring system and then along came additional polling engines where you could place an engine at a remote site to source additional monitoring. But an even better option is to use IP SLA monitoring from router to router checking site to site performance. Although IP SLA was developed…

Yes, I agree. It is definitely a sequence. 1st make sure that the OS's are patched 2nd patch the SQL 3rd apply the modules and always start with the primary engine, then any additional engines and finally the additional web servers. and always upgrade the NPM first, then the SAM and then then rest. Remember that upgrades…

Hi, I've just had exactly the same problem & Simon's fix pointed me directly to the problem. I have a primary engine plus an Additional Polling Engine and just added an Additional Web Server. Everything was OK except that the AWS reported that it could not connect to the APE, but only on the AWS's Polling Engines screen,…

Duing the upgrade your polling engine(s) will be updated and the tables of your SQL server will also be updated. To undo the upgrade you will need to revert all of these changes. You will need to take a backup of the SQL database, a backup of the website (web backup) and a snapshot of the server(s). We use VMs for our…

With many thanks to www.Kenson.co.uk Port 80, 443 or whatever is configured for client access, port 17777 for communication to the Information Service (Primary Poller), port 1433 (by default) to communicate to the SQL server.

Hi guys, I'd like clarification on this too. Has anyone got any experience of this?. Thanks, Robert

Hi, we need the same functionality and particularly for local admin accounts. Watching for events would certainly catch accounts in use, but not the unused backdoor admin accounts that have been forgotten and are now unknown to all current staff. Did anyone create a PS script or SAM template for this? Hopefully, Robert

From the Orion Home page select Settings > Database Details to find the server name. Note that you might have a database for NPM/SAM/most other modules and another for NCM and yet another for NetFlow. Do not delete any databases until you are sure that they are not required by Orion or by any other user . And then back…
-
Hi, You can use the Filter Results tab to select your Custom Property of only ADSL or only CORE. You'll need to make a number or identical reports, one each for your ADSL, Core etc.

I am told that "Time zone settings of the Web server (IIS), database, and SolarWinds Information Service must all be the same. " so It looks like GMT is the way to go & configuring remote polling engines as Workgroup servers, outside of the local ADs, so that they are not subjected to any default GPOs or other control.…

Wonderful - Worked like a treat. I'm still building my system & my first thought was that I'd done something seriously wrong. I'm so grateful for the very fast fix. Happy New Year. Robert

Hi, Alternatively, you could run the "AppInsight for SQL" template and monitor all the databases in an instance at once. Deploy it again to different ports & see other instance & all its databases. And then perhaps offer an additional bonus to your other customers
-
Hi, The Primary Polling Engine and the SQL are critical to keeping the complex working. Your pics show that the Primary and the Additional Polling Engine are both loaded with things to poll, are collecting metrics and are completing their cycle of polling within their allocated time. From theses pics everything seems to be…

I've set up additional volume custom properties for warning & for critical so that I can ignore the system wide defaults and specify individual thresholds for each volume. Also I've set up a bolean CP so that the volume can be marked as "I dont care, because this volume is designed to run full" so that I can exclude it…
-
If you're still having problems, I would recommend that you call SolarWinds support again. Let them know that you called previously & that it is still not working as you would like.
-
And has anyone tried standing up an instance on Google Cloud Platform? What were your experiences? Which platform do you prefer?
-
Hi there's an outstanding feature request for this, but unfortunately, it's still outstanding There are going to be a few steps for this 1. Create a Custom Property for nodes. Against each node enter a time offset. It might be easiest to set the system time to GMT to simplify the offset. 2. Create a report that adds or…

I use both NPM & NCM. We keep the hardware and circuits clean with NPM & the configs clean with NCM. NPM does it all, tells the engineers when to replace a fan, to plug the second power cord back in, to clean up their temp folders, warn that a service has failed or that some process should be killed, etc, etc, and it sends…

The copyright line on every web page gives the detailed version of most products, but for QoE it only shows my version as 2.0. I looked everywhere for the detailed version number, but now I’ve found it in Add Remove Progs. I don’t how I missed that yesterday. It's just as well I checked as my intended hotfix did not meet…
