Great post, Thanks. One caveat to be aware of if you have multiple polling engines. when doing the update Nodes set EngineID = '2' where EngineID ='1' change. Make sure that there's a non-confilcting sequence. don't change all the ID=1 to 2 and then expect the original ID=2 to still be selectable. For example. You could…

What a superb report. Thank you so much.

Great list. Thanks guys. Rather that do the "Review Polling Engine Polling Status/Rates" monthly, I record all of the figures on a sheet weekly so that I can graph the load growth as justification when I want/need to buy another engine. We've grown from 1 to 4 additional engines, so it must be working

I really need to try these out. Thanks for posting.

Thanks zackm. Great find.

Woh, now I feel silly. I didn't even notice the new section there. Many thanks aLTeReGo Robert

Does this process require any specific versions? I've got a dedicated SQL2005 on Win2003 with NPM11 & other modules on discrete engines. The SQL script runs OK from SSMS & says that it's has no errors, but the ReportWriter file errors with a SQL Error: Conversion failed when converting the nvarchar value…

Just added my 1st APC UPS onto our lab instance with all the latest SW patches. The temp is showing as 70 F although my Orion local user account was already set to C. Is there somewhere else I need to adjust F to C for this new widget

Hi Ashley, I use TraceRoute most days & have NetPath running from/to a variety of endpoints. I'm up for a look. I'll PM you

I just implemented this & the bus layer went from one process to a screenful of processes on the MPE It took a few minutes to apply across all the APEs, but it's a really tidy upgrade. The list of settings looks like it's alphabetical & I was starting to wonder why I didn't have the bus layer entries, but it's NOT…

Nice! Thanks Michael.

rschroeder good idea, thanks. I created

How about a compromise? A field for the short name and another field fro the domain name? That way maps & tables could use the short snappy names but if needed they could then be grouped/reported/alerted by domain But it would still need Orion to work out which part was which when DNS reported differently form SNMP

Agreed, FQDN as a standard has to be the way forward for a company that collects domain names like a child collects stamps.

KMSigma this is a such a neat routine. It's so useful & I'm using it all over the place now. Thanks for posting.

superb. thanks

The ZIP file has a folder structure, so the files do not end up in the inet folder, but much deeper. Getting the Discovery & then ConnectNow to run successfully made it work fine for me,. Great resource - I will certainly locate this high on our NOC pages. I'd be grateful for official SW support on this addition. Thanks.

Hi, I've added some screenshots of the list of metrics from my APE's. I can understand that there may be additional metrics displayed depending on what is being monitored by that engine, but it's the shuffling of the sequence that I find difficult to understand. Regards, Robert

It's a "how long's a piece of string?" type of question. So much depends on how you deploy. With all the standard settings, you could easily get away with change from 10GB, but the moment that you change polling frequency or retention time, you affect the size. If you poll twice as often, you have twice as much data and if…

I tried the Add To Ignore List then Remove From Ignore List but it just put the nodes back into the Results page. Bah I'll try the table approach

Thanks for the link Rob. NPM 10.5 has the setting in Orion Polling Settings. The tick-box is labeled Perform reverse DNS lookup with a description of SolarWinds will perform a reverse DNS lookup to determine the name of any node with a static IP address.and It's ticked as enabled by default. But the description suggests…

Some application topology, summary screens and network topology. Some screens roll with multiple views and all are driven by Chrome & the Revolver extension. Screens 2 & 3 have columns of interest eg AD servers, SAN fabric, WAN facing interfaces, etc where the big blob is the up/down status followed by a list of down then…

You could build a report which summarises your traffic or availability based on a custom property of building and then add that report to your view. It would be, by definition, a table rather than a chart or an expandable tree, but should give you the up-front information that you need.
-
Hi, Basically, Yes. You buy a 10.0 NPM and then you use 10.0 additional engines. Each version increment makes updates to the SQL table structure and so they must all be at the same version. Regards, Robert

Wow! I'd heard rumours of HA, but this looks great. Just what the doctor ordered. I cant wait to trial it.

>> If someone on your team renames a volume, it will get dropped by SolarWinds and will remain unmonitored until you have an outage I use scheduled discovery to identify new volumes and I have an alert that looks for volumes that are no longer responding. These will have either been renamed, replaced or would point to the…
