You're right that the Hot Standby only supports NPM functions. During upgrades, the entire Orion farm needs to be stopped in order to make fundamental changes to the SQL database & this is the big problem. That is - unless my idea gets released!

Hi Jiri, Exchange 2007 has some running services on the Active server that are stopped on the Passive, so we can use these as triggers. It looks like we'll probably end up swapping over an Active wiith a Passive template in SQL if this can be done simply and safely. If you could let me know how to do this in SQL as a Alert…

Hi guys, Sorry, but I had had a similar problem. I re-discovered our core (about a dozen tightly connected 6500 chassis) and was surprized that ConnectNow found only 4 connections. The shop is almost completely L3 and ConnectNow just did not understand.

That makes sense. Let's hope that someone does not do a system-wide fix & mess it up again for those of us who have corrected our entries

mesverrum & rschroeder Thanks guys, I feel ill, my brain hurts & that just goes to show how bad I really am.Thanks for being patient with me.

Your primary NPM server will need to communicate with the SQL server and with the additional polling engine and your additional polling engine will need to talk to both the SQL and to the primary. Both of your polling engines will log their collected data directly to the SQL database, but the primary/main/first polling…

Log on to the Customer Portal and select the Additional Components on the left hand side of the page. Select the NCM page & the 5.1.1 integration module is downloadable.

The % loss is created by an average & it takes a while to average itself up to 40% after the node has gone down & then it takes a while to average itself back down when the node comes back up again. Perhaps adding node down traps from the device would help speed up the real displayed status of the node and then you could…

Say that you've got 2 sites, and they're joined by a 10meg link. Each site is almost self contained and working well with limited traffic between, so the 10meg link is fine. You might be seeing some domain replication traffic, but that's about all. Then someone releases a new application. It might be consolidating the two…

Take a look at http://www.solarwinds.com/NetPerfMon/SolarWinds/wwhelp/wwhimpl/common/html/wwhelp.htm?context=SolarWinds&file=OrionPH95th.htm also. It's quite a clear description.

Is that Obsessive Cycling Disorder? It's snowing here in the Uk & can't get out on my bike

You may find that you need to use the System Manager on the server to delete the unwanted volume. However, all of that volume's data will go away too. I rename the old volume to something like "this array died on 1st January 2010" and unmanage the volume, leaving it there. Users know not to worry about the volume, but can…

You still can't specify an alternate default, but you can bulk move nodes from one engine to another with Manage Nodes, For example: Manage Nodes > select all Windows nodes > Edit > check the box next to the polling engine paragraph to enable bulk editing of that paragraph > select the new engine > OK the change > Put the…

That's magic - thank you so much Just pasting your line into the text area of my mail produced exactly what I needed! I've found EngineID in the Select Variable lists, but not the other entries. Are they only found within the SQL database tables or are they shown elsewhere? Thank you again

Hi maryan.dmytriv This one pulls the location from the node rather than from IPAMs subnet, but I like the idea.
-
The APM license summary gives the total number of component monitors (we are set to Poller-bound), but is there a way to view the APM component count per polling engine?
-
Congratulations! You're right. They are not easy exams and just clearing your desk is a real chore, but I think it adds to the credibility of the qualifications that we didn't really have before.

congrats dodo123

Hi Chris, No, not create from a csv, although I can see that that could be a useful process. What I've got is a number of servers that have already had components separately added to them. There are quite a few varied components & a variety of credentials and they all work. I wanted to to take that known working list and…

If you have your servers grouped, in the Manage Nodes & Group By view you can expand the multiple interfaces & volumes of these nodes and mark a selection of volumes or nodes for deletion at one go. Or have I misunderstood?
-
Ah, now I understand. When you do a List Resources & add in the AppInsight for IIS, it adds the tests in for everything that you select and will immediately start collecting information on the basic stuff like volumes, interfaces etc. But the more complex queries will require some privilege and some require minor changes…

We suffered from this too. 1 primary + 4 pollers with all the modules and a web site too. Every so often a polling engine would just stop. Sometimes it would still poll, but report that it was not. Quite confusing. We had NCM running on the primary and it occasionally it took up 100% of 2 cores and most of the available…

Hi, yes this was quickly fixed by the re-config of the web site only on the failing auxilliary web server. It was really just an advisory. I'd still be happier that it never happened, but I think it has only occurred twice in about a year.
-
Great alert And I've made a report to show the same info.

Hi Roger, Many thanks, I must have been having a silly moment :) The red rollup now rolls up red - perfect. The unmanaged roll-up is to check whether services are running on Exchange CCR cluster members & so determine whether a fail-over has occurred. The NOC should see that everything is green, but the passive members…

Many thanks for the link jrouviere. I hunted for a doc like this, but didn't find it. This explains everything - well almost everything about WPM.
-
That's great. Many thanks Heck - that was hidden away - & named strangely. We had already deployed the APM polling modules across our NPM pollers, but I missed that setting - for reference it's From the Orion home page > Admin > APM Settings > Data & Database Settings Then change the Poller Engine Mode from the default of…

Many thanks, You're absolutely right. I think I was having a funny moment & trying to do it all upside-down.

That's absolutely perfect. I knew I wanted WPM, now I know why Thank you
