SWNoob, Well, you came to the right place. Conveniently, independent node thresholds (CPU/RAM/etc) have been introduced in 10.7 RC.

Very likely this is a known bug we have already identified. Try "List Resources" on a test node and confirm status is set for ICMP. This should reset the status poller.
-
In Device Poller configuration tool, make sure the Get Table radio button is selected and as well as Get Next radio button.
-
The first thing to verify would be that you have devices returning hardware health information. If you just recently installed / upgraded, it may be a few minutes before this information is populated.
-
Are you trying to install NPM, or which applications are you trying to access? (Network Atlas for example.) Screenshot would help get us on the same page as well.
-
Definitely suggested to move the DB / server then upgrade subsequently.

To install .NET 3.5 on 2012, you can do so from the command line: dism /online /enable-feature /featurename:NetFX3 /all /Source:d:\sources\sxs /LimitAccess (where "Source" path is path to your install source (likely ISO))

There could be quite a few reasons why the local agent is flapping. A support case is likely the best course of action. Barring that, agent logs may be found here: c:\ProgramData\Solarwinds\Logs\AgentManagement\ c:\ProgramData\Solarwinds\Logs\Agent\

Either way would work, though you would certainly receive more data if your configure the node to be monitored via SNMP. The real question is how you have your alerts structured. Even the default "Node Down" alert would function in this case. If you've customized this alert already to be specific to servers, then it would…

Oh, the old HT debate... While HT does an excellent job of parallelizing execution and keeping physical cores busy- it is not a replacement for physical cores. 4 core w/ HT <> 8 cores

Reuben, Does that system have the ability to reach the internet? We would need to download a manifest file to determine most recent updates.
-
Short-answer: both- either for CP name or CP values. Generally those are SWQL reserved words, and they could cause odd behavior when used with CPs

Try the new reporting in NPM 10.6 You could use the "group members" resource, select the relevant group and enumerate the members.
-
You've definitely covered your bases on troubleshooting, but sounds likely there is something wonky with that self-signed cert. We should probably have our support team dig in on it. http://www.solarwinds.com/support/

This functionality actually appears in the 10.7 beta web-based report scheduler.
-
With the new web-based reports in 10.6 you can summarize table information to produce a row count. EX:

Not a known issue- a support ticket may be the best idea: http://www.solarwinds.com/support/

Would you perhaps be able to post a screenshot of where you are seeing this?
-
If you want to use groups, you could configure a group member alert to alert on group member status going down. Use of custom properties would also achieve the desired results.
-
Are you logged in as an admin on the new instance? Do you have a "Management" resource on the Node Details view?

You may wish to upgrade to the most recent version of NPM, where hardware-health for many vendors is built-in. Download is available in your customer portal: Welcome to the SolarWinds Customer Portal

At the moment a support case may be the best bet: http://www.solarwinds.com/support/

Depends on where the data is stored. If it's in SQL, SAM has a SQL template that could be used for pulling in and alerting on data.
