500MB over how long a time period? Clients will poll the print server for printer status every few seconds, which could result in a fair bit of traffic. Try printing a job, then setting the printer offline to see if it's the job itself or subsequent status polls.

NPM is pulling Forward-mib data from OID 1.3.6.1.2.1.4.24.4.1.8 to gather this data. This a generic solution to pull route change information. Certain devices return route information supported by private mibs that doesn't correspond with forward-mib data. It's a known issue we're looking at, but not addressed in 11.5.
