  • I installed all the hotfixes, rebooted my server and.... Cannot connect to my database. Fabulous! Called SW support, gave them my customer number and was transfered to a VM bucket. My Solarwinds monitoring is now down. The last time I couldn't connect to the database I had to re-run the configuration wizard. I don't want…
  • UPDATE: I think I found the cause of the packet loss I had the other day. I fired up Cirrus on the same server as the Orion (x64) and I saw the packet loss once again. As far as I can tell, the cirrus application is not supported on x64. I uninstalled cirrus, since unistalling I have had a ton of problems. 1. I wasn't able…
  • I like the suggestion, I tried it, and unfortunatly it didn't work for me. After changing the IP and hostname on the existing node details I hit Validate SNMP and I got the same error. Thanks for the suggestion. In a packet capture on the Orion server, shows Orion sending an SNMPv1 packet with a get request for…
  • I am having the same issue... I see packets both ways, yet Orion cannot SNMP V1 or V2 to the PIX. Here is my config... snmp-server host inside 1.1.1.1 poll snmp-server location colo snmp-server contact Helpdesk snmp-server community 123456 snmp-server enable traps ! in the packet capture I see Orion poll for the…
  • I guess I'm just looking for an explaination of what it is representing. If my process is running out of perceived CPU space then couldn't that be a problem? I would think at some point we would need to adjust the application to think it can use more CPU threads. Thoughts?
  •  Yes, I am running the database on the same box until our new SQL server is ready. One other thing, I noticed today that almost all of my nodes were taking packet loss. I looked at all the obvious stuff, then determined that it must be something with the Orion server. I rebooted, once it was back up, I couldn't login to…

  •  With the RW community I was able to download the configs.
  • I installed 8.1 today on 2003 x64 dual core sun x4100. The install went pretty smooth, with the exception of the SQL. I needed to install the 64 bit application. I am currently monitoring 93 nodes and 849 interfaces. No issues at this point, and it seems to be running fast, at least faster than the old crappy dell server.…
  •  Yes, because it will put the hostname or IP address in the message that the device is sending and not just in the message header. When forwarding the syslog messages from Orion, the syslog message appears that it was sent from the orion server, but the actual message will have the hostname of the device.
  • I think the stats are already available. If I look at the System Manager, under the interface traffic graphs, I see a Multicast graph. I want to view this on the web page.
  •  Default poll interval for nodes - 60 sec for interfaces - 60 sec for volumes - 120 sec Default statistics collection interval for nodes - 3 min for interfaces - 3 min for volumes - 5 min Are these too aggresive?
  •  The node 'x.x.x.x' does not respond with the community string 'blahblah' I am using the same community in the SNMP walk and it matches exactly to what the device is configured for. I checked for typos, etc
  • As for real CPU load on the server, I looked at both the server and the node details in Orion. It is just the CPU process in the application monitor looking at one process. For example, OpenVPN fluxuates based on time of day, and how busy the network is, but most of the time the OpenVPN application is running at 100% of…
  •  I am using the SNMP Process monitor on a Linux server. The APM is on the latest version with the service pack installed.
  • On Cisco I have configured my remote devices for 'logging origin-id hostname' (or ip address) This adds the hostname in the syslog message, which will be forwarded in the message. Although, it is not supported on some IOS. I know that this doesn't really help, since it requires you to "touch" each device.
