The way I would do this is create a Custom Property under Interfaces with the Custom Property Editor on the SolarWinds Server.. Call it Uplink and use the True/False values to populate your uplinks. Then use the Advanced Alert Manager to create an alert using the Custom Property you created. Using the Interface as the type…

What type of Account is the User that can't unmanage a node using? If they auth through an AD group make sure they don't also have an Individual AD account set up. If they do this will take priority over the AD Group, and they could have set up the Individual account to not allow the unmanage ability. If this isn't the…

I have a question. I understand you are mad, but let me ask you this. Did you do a back up of your DB like the install clearly ask you before you have to type "YES"??? I see that you didn't and it was prior to 10.4.. Bad move on your part seeing that you have used NPM for so long I don't understand how you feel you can…

You are correct if you are polling at 5 minute intervals then during the last 50 minutes is how the availability is calculated. So 80% would be correct that you saw it drop 2 times within those last 10 polls or last 50 minutes. This will keep rolling forward taking out the oldest poll at each new poll and re-calculating…

I have always been thrown off by the use of ICMP at the interface level as well. Since not every interface will have an IP how would you ping this to begin with right?? That answer I would like to know since I never have dug deep enough to find out. The polling intervals are just that how often do we check. Either way if…

ICMP is used for availability across all devices in the system. We use a 10 poll average to calculate the availability for nodes. IE. 10 pings go out over 20 minutes using the default 120 seconds per poll. If you missed say 4 polls during that period then you would have a 60% availability since only 6 polls were found to…

Double check the Credentials you used for the monitors if any. Make sure they are still assigned to the templates, and they didn't get deleted. What is the failure message you get from Orion when you try to run a test on the Templates in question? If those are all still in place and you aren't getting a clear error message…

No you can't split the license between the boxes. There is a feature request going to have SolarWinds provide the ability to use our Licenses in a Test/Dev environment, or provide current maintenance contract customers with Test/Dev licensees. It's a big headache for now. Currently you have to just download the latest EVAL…

Thanks! You will find that the SolarWinds user community and dev's are among the most helpful and active of many forums I am apart of. Make sure to mark your question as answered as well! Let me know if you have any other questions, or need other help!

There are a few ways to do this. I use Custom Properties to add tags to different equipment so I can tailor my alerts around certain devices. For instance all of our Cisco gear is owned by the DataComm Department at my company. So I used the Custom Property Editor on the SolarWinds server to add a new Custom Property…

Not sure if this helps or not, but you can mark nodes as Unmanaged and they will stop triggering any alerts you have built against them. You can also use the Unmanage utility on the Server to schedule times to Unmanage certain nodes/interfaces/applications and use the Windows Task Scheduler to have them kick the actions…

It sure does. Check out the product page. It's part of the description. http://www.solarwinds.com/netflow-traffic-analyzer/system-requirements.aspx Analyzes Cisco NetFlow, Juniper J-Flow, IPFIX, sFlow , Huawei NetStream & other flow data

Yes, you need to use the UnDP app on the Orion server to create the UnDP pollers that you want first. Once created they will be added to that section of the web front end and you can drill do a node and add the new pollers. You should be able to assign the pollers to nodes from the UnDP app as well, but as I said once you…

Basic alerts can't be acknowledged. To take advantage of this you have to create Advanced Alerts through the Alert Manager. Once you start using condition based alerts you can acknowledge the alerts. Check this post out about it as well.. It just came up again a few days ago.…

TFTP will be the only way I can think of. You would just need to write a custom script in NCM to telnet/ssh to the device and execute the TFTP script to download the contents of the Flash to your desired folder on the NCM server.

Nexus switches use NX-OS.. It is completely different from IOS that everyone is use to. I believe in 10.3 they just added proper support and fixes in the Orion core module for Nexus 5000 series switches. I would perform an upgrade and then rediscover/list resources on the Nexus switch and check again. Also, double check…

Very common issue in Cisco routers. Even more so on a Core router that will be doing BGP and have larger routing tables, and large ARP tables in Enterprise LANs. Here is some stuff you can do or look at. Remember SNMP is low priority on a routers CPU stack, so in theory you will start to drop the SNMP packets and request…

This sounds more like an issue on their side then the player. Just from what I have read. After the player is done that TCP connection should die and be killed from the server, and free up that resource. Those connections should be killed once the SEUM completes its runs. Can we verify from SEUM that these connections are…

I haven't yet Dennis, but I will be rolling it out here at my current engagement in a couple weeks. I can say that it went through at least 3 beta's and an RC cycle, so most of the issues if any at all should be worked out. This is a minor release also which focused on the CPE updates that were needed from removing the CPE…

I would always share the one you have modified. It may make its way into SAM as a canned template for IIS 7.

From what I am reading it sounds like you are wanting to use the Variable ${NodeName}. This will pull the name of the node that has triggered the Alert. You can find these on the Variable button at the bottom of the Alert box when creating the message you are sending out. This same variable structure can be used to pull…

sean.martinez thanks for the commands! Big help! Next question I have is about how VNQM is polling that information? Does the module expect to be able to get all the way through to Global config mode, and use a enable password to get to Global config mode? Reason I ask is that I can't get the monitoring to work with a read…

The alerts are seperate, but the way I listed them does make it seem like I have included them in the same rule. We have upgraded and this has since been fixed for us. Thanks

Very nice! Forgot about this. But, not hard for me to overlook I guess. I have ONLY monitored static IP's being mostly in ISP environments, and Enterprise LAN's where we aren't using SW to track Users that acquire DHCP.. Sorry for the mis-information about DHCP.. I would like to know or look up what NPM attaches to in the…

I haven't seen anyway to monitor a device changing it's IP. SolarWinds uses IP for it's correlation and DNS to resolve the FQDN (Fully Qualified Domain Name) if there is one. If they implement an ability to track by MAC address, so that it's doesn't change I could see this being done, and on the next poll the IP address…

Try this template. Make sure you change the command like for the file path and then the string of text you are searching for. You also will need proper permissions on the user that assign to the template to log into the system. http://thwack.solarwinds.com/docs/DOC-168977

I see what happened here. When I read your post as did as well we most likely assumed (I know I did) that you were stating SAM 5.2 compatabiltiy began at 10.2.2, but you in fact state clearly SAM compatability (meaing from SAM 5.0 and on) begins at 10.2.2. That being said we still should have checked to see that 10.2.2…

You only need to be at NPM 10.1 to upgrade to SAM 5.0 and above. Good luck.

Great! Glad I was able to help you find what you were looking for. Just reply back anytime if you have another question. This community is great and someone will always be able to help or point you in the right direction.

All of what you are looking for can be done from the Admin page I spoke of above. You can disable Node Management, Admin Rights and strip the tab links out for browsing around SolarWinds. You can also do the Printable version of the webpage and it hides this stuff from view.
