I must admit I enjoy new challenges and as well as migrating to the cloud I am hoping there will be a secondary step of migrating from a service providers cloud back to your own cloud. (yes I agree 'Cloud' is a misleading term) I'd also sugest that your own cloud has the capacity to burst out to the service providers cloud…

I Love the idea and would make sharing screenshots alot easier, but not so sure on how easy to implement.... but that has never stopped me voting on a good idea

A certain car magazine in the uk uses it's internal cloud (maas, puppet and docket I think) to spin up new web servers at peak times, I think avg time to bring one up is 150 seconds if not needing a new host up. I could understand it if the google dc's were doing similar to cope with the loads. But we don't know the…

Thank you for being so prompt and letting us know

It does sound over the top doesn't it? But that's the way companies are starting to go with AWS Openstack hybrid clouds. There a few case studies out there now of where it has been implemented, Lithium technologies springs to mind. How successfully is another matter..

Speaking of documentation, this reminds of a job where the chief concern was backing up the firewalls (asa's fortunately) and being handed 60 odd pages of firewall rules. They were very happy when shown ncm and config download. When doing a fresh installation it's good to get the company thinking about custom properties…

I'm certainly looking forward to trying these new features! Cheers

I'm not sure this is much less painful than a format and reinstall: How do I reset Windows Update components? Failing that ... maybe Windows 8.1 with a little enhancement....? Classic Shell - Start menu and other Windows enhancements

Well said Leon. I recall being on a team building exercise and being asked who are my customers are. As I was the IT dept at the time my answer was everyone in the room and since then, anyone I work with, still is. There was not a dept in the company that I didn't have a 'super' user in and they were invaluable as they…

It's certainly possible... the oriondemo.solarwinds.com displays it on the NPM sumary page. But recreating it is not being the easiest to setup.. Any instructions would be gratefully received

Great post thank you! At absolute most I'll admit to being a minimalist DBA (If I have to!) So I'm going to keep this to hand, just in case. Thank you!

Well after buying a Death star .... or at least an equivalent amount of blades (Like Vblocks ;p) I'd ramble on about understanding It would be a matter of investing in staff and investing in training, specifically: * Understanding the cost of Not monitoring - the Gotcha's, the lack of visibility, spending money on…

Yup, would be great to come back again

Great article and I can relate to few of them I recall one position where HR asks me what it meant o be different....? What does it mean..? What, I've never not had this. What comparison would you like me to make? I have Dyslexia, as in dyslexia... not dyspraxia or dyscalculia nor on the autistic spectrum etc, just…

Vaping also leaves a residue, I wouldn't recommend that in a data center or near sensitive equipment either.

And there's my hopes dashed! Well let's hope it's and easy feature to implement

It would certainly be handy for those of use who have multiple networks to monitor not just MSP's

Now I feel old, we had to type the game into the zx80! ZX81 I think had the ram upgrade module to 16Bit memory, I don't recall a tape drive ... memory loss. But do recall getting the monthly magazines and typing in the latest game (Grand Prix was a monster 400 liner! ) debugging was a Pain! but the satisfaction was Great…

No alert is associated, it was for an architect to check each trunk, I was trying to make his life easier. But I think you are correct and we are trying push the envelope for now. I shall have a look at feature requests Cheers for your help though.

I cannot think where I came across this, but doesn't each additional web server put some additional weight on the database? I didn't get the impression it was much of an additional load, a slight one, but if you added lots you would get a performance hit on the database. Is that correct?

Did support give you any context around this and why it needed to be done? And has anyone else tried this? TIA!

Hi Bryan, I tested this earlier and the code works well and I suspect as intended. But it only gives me the first instance of that line in any config. So if there were multiple instances of the ip device tracking max 0 in a config it only returns the first instance it comes across in the config. Cheers for the code though.…

Your question definitely still stands and I would like an answer to that to It's grand to have the chassis, but would be nice to see the blades as well in a more joined up way.

Bang goes my theory of some mythical boss batting you across the back of the head and asking if you'd come up with a community forum name yet ... I been watching the Solarwind funny video's again ...

Like wise Great Answer!

Bear in mind this is only for the reports written in the report writer application on the Solawrinds application server. Not for the web based report writer (Those are stored in the DB and will get copied anyway) Export reports from Report Writer Report Writer provides an export menu that enables you to save your report in…
