I think I need a follow Leon Adato button. Nice work on the above and nice work on the icmp Status monitoring but no snmp stats alert to!

The trials do leave registry items, I think to stop you rerunning multiple trials. Speak to support they have tools that can help And yes after the horse has bolted etc, but I don't recommend putting trial software on production kit (even though it makes sense to see it integrated...)

I shall give that go thank you!

Well if the machines are all on the same segment it may be wise to have that ACL checked out as that could be blocking things on port 161 (snmp get port) so again a friendly network engineer maybe the best bet on that

Just an FYI if you are going to upgrade to SAM 6.1 this is in the SAM admin guide now: http://www.solarwinds.com/documentation/apm/docs/SAMAdminGuide.pdf On Page 102 in the SQL section it states: SQL Server 2005 SP1 Express, Standard, or Enterprise (Important: Not supported in SAM 6.1+.) Also on page 104 there is also this…

They work well, I just like to know what is being suppressed and with auto dependencies I don't find it easy going through all the indivdual dependecy that are created.

I think you are missing the drop down arrow that is located under the Page title that allows you to change time periods. If you navigate to a 'Voip UDP Jitter Operations Details' page you can see the page title at the top and just underneath is a drop down arrow that may say "Custom period" or "Last 4 hours". If you click…

I would love better clarification on this..... But as far as my understanding goes (And it is limited) this a limitation of SNMP, not really Solarwinds. I don't think SNMP was designed (ahem, 5 or 6 decades ago?) to include SNMP community within SNMP communities. Or multiple SNMP communities under one SNMP community and…

It looks like DPA is slightly differant. I've just had a quick scan of the admin guide and found this: http://www.solarwinds.com/documentation/dpa/docs/DPAAdministratorGuide.pdf And on page 46 the title: Link together separate DPA servers Hope that helps.

Hiya, That does seem a bit odd and keeping version concurrent across the platform is always a good call. Can I ask what versions of what modules you are on? And as you have 3 additional web servers, how many users of the Solarwinds platform? I ask as NTA since version 4 have a preference for a separate flow storage server…

I have been having a look to see if there is an "VPN Connections" oid for 9.4. but I can't easily find one and I have no ASA's to hand. If you have a Cisco license agreement then you can goto Cisco IOS MIB Locator and see if you can locat it that way, else you may find it easier to ask Cisco themselves. Once located have a…

Ahh.. It could be that you are using the File Change Monitor from the File Monitoring section of the Application Monitor Templates..? If you are Then the description for that monitor is: This template tests if a file has been modified. The component monitor performs an MD5 checksum comparison on the file to verify it was…

I can believe it. There are ways to reduce the number of ports required such as using a GPO to curtail the windows servers to only use this 100 ports or this range or if you use agents then that will poll on WMI locally and send the info back to through a firewall on set ports... or if there is enough to monitor on the…

Well lets take a step back and then go one step further. My approach to a new installation is as much about getting people to understand the Orion platform as it is the individual modules. So here is the way I go through a fresh install. Before starting I like people to start thinking about Logical containers (it's how I…

I read the question differently "Actually, how DO you create new tabs?". If you edit an account you get given so many Tabs that you can customize, what I cannot see is how to add an additional one there. Closest I can get is to leave the main ones as default and use a newly created Menu in the "Home Page View" of account…

Maybe it is a lack of understanding on my part and if so I'd happily take a good set of instructions. The reason I say that is the oriondemo site and this resouce: http://oriondemo.solarwinds.com/Orion/DetachResource.aspx?ViewID=390&ResourceID=4572&NetObject=N%3a516¤tUrl=aHR0cD… And it works, the blades are linked…

You can get non admin accounts to get perfmon stats. Have a look at the following guide: How to create a non-administrator user for SAM polling - SolarWinds Worldwide, LLC. Help and Support Hope that helps.

An example would be a good idea! We would like to enable IP Device Tracker on all access ports but disable it on the trunks. So on any interface that is a trunk we would look for ip device tracking max 0 interface gigabitEthernet 1/0/1 switchport mode trunk switchport access vlan 10 spanning-tree portfast ip device…

Hi Brett, here is a link to the NPM admin guide: http://www.solarwinds.com/documentation/Orion/docs/OrionAdministratorGuide.pdf In chapter 12 it tells you how to monitor monitor mibs with the universal device poller

Hi Duncan, I've not looked at monitoring VPN connections for a while and you mention inbound specifically so I am not sure how much this will help. But have a look at the following article: Example NetFlow Config - Cisco ASA - SolarWinds Worldwide, LLC. Help and Support and Cisco IPSEC VPN tunnels do not show Netflow data…

Hi Shriya, Solarwinds NPM is licensed on an Element count made up of Nodes, Interfaces and Volumes. This is from the NPM administrator guide http://www.solarwinds.com/documentation/Orion/docs/OrionNPMAdministratorGuide.pdf At the bottom of Page 40: NPM Licensing Levels The following list provides the different types of…

This was what struck me also. If you can use wmi to those servers, then I would presume you can ping them? If the devices are all in the same section of the infrastructure then it sounds like a device is dropping SNMP... probably a security device .... Also SNMP vs WMI for those that fancy a read SNMP vs WMI polling -…

Nice one, Cheers. I can certainly think of one situation where this would have been very handy, I used to work some where that monitored 200 or so Draytek routers and after 500 hours of uptime they would develop routing problems. So being able to see which devices had been up for 500 hours in a daily report would have been…

You don't need to back up the maps these days nor the web console configurations. If you have an bespoke report writer reports (Rather than the web based report writer) you'll need to copy those and any bespoke NCM device templates. Other than those to gotcha's migration works pretty well seamlessly.

Is DWAN another name for SD-WAN? If so I submitted a feature request called "SD_WAN Jupiper and Palo Alto" which I have just noticed had gone into the Fun and Geeky section(?!?)

I think this is what you are after and if so it is Very worth while doing Stops alot of 'Noise' and hence allows you to see the problem quicker and hence resolve it quicker Define and use dependencies in Orion NPM - SolarWinds Worldwide, LLC. Help and Support There is also An auto dependencies feature which works very…

From the compatibility chart, this is the upgrade path for NPM: Network Performance Monitor (NPM) Upgrade Path Orion NPM 7.8.5 ⇒ 8.5.1 ⇒ 9.1 ⇒ 9.5.1 ⇒ 10.1.3 ⇒ 10.3 ⇒ 10.7 So if you ar on a version between 9.1 and 9.5.1 then the first install would be the 9.5.1 then 10.1.3 etc You may have to request the older versions are…

Once you've become a customer, what SolarWinds web properties do you visit, how often, and for what? * Do you continue to visit the solarwinds.com website? How often? What kind(s) of content do you normally go looking for on solarwinds.com? Yes, daily for documentation side, I like the online admin guides by the way, very…
