I see 'hyperconverged systems' becoming more attractive - especially in larger shops that lived for years in the host cluster/networked storage paradigm. There is some real value-add there, though...the ability to scale up and out in graduated degrees without being hobbled by really pricey breakpoints makes a lot of sense…

That's a pretty sweet power strip, man.

Yep, opened my own case and got shut down. 'Feature request' is where it's at. Not satisfactory. I can't imagine that Cisco shops would have to deal with this situation. Are there really that few of us thwacksters who poll HPE/Aruba gear? Surprising.

It's cool for them, too. This is a marketing effort after all. They're after clicks, views, and impressions - even if it's from users that are already in the fold.
-
'Serverless' is a bogus term for what you describe, but I get what you're saying. As far as what's holding us back, it's mostly internal cross-system dependencies and archaic application development that further lock in those dependencies. Pretty common.

I was at Atmosphere 2018 last week in Vegas, and this increasingly tonedeaf lack of visibility, heatmapping, and added performance metrics in NPM has never been more glaringly obvious. For the first time in five years, I actually thought about how easy it would be to ditch about half of our Solarwinds product and *still*…

This request needs more love - it basically solves most headaches all of us suffer through dependency slippage. Y'all are smart, right? Program it on up!!

This.....now THIS is an idea! Great suggestion, zackm!

An additional benefit to some embedded help content I've seen is that historically it has much better contextual features - that is, if I'm on a certain screen and click 'help', I get the help information for the options/other info for the screen I'm currently on...this is so, so helpful over time. Obviously, there are…

Perhaps those small customers might be willing to purchase per-node NPM monitoring as a SaaS property. If they're already your customers, I see a possible revenue stream...don't you?
-
1. Our small team covers network, servers, storage, virtualization, perimeter security, carrier/ISP communication, backup strategy, asset management, and of course network monitoring. So I guess you could call that an extremely short, broad silo. That covers everything. 2. Vmware/Solarwinds/Commvault/etc. It does help…

I think gramma uses it.....

That's a provocative statement, and one that assumes the larger issue at hand is purely about this particular incident. I disagree.

How long do you have until retirement?

One caveat for those of us looking to leverage UDPs in Perfstack - if you have an OID that pulls a counter value - and it pulls only a current value in a point in time as opposed to units/timeframe, it's not going to show up in Perfstack - or at least I haven't figured out how to get it to show up yet :-) Still cool and…

Baseball's kind of boring. Just because you think video games are an abomination doesn't mean everyone else should think so.

If I were you, I'd stick with AirWave. Different platform, sure - but it's a fool's game waiting for Solarwinds to supply the functionality. It is not and will likely never be a priority. We've jumped ship to AirWave and have no regrets.

Well, I navigated to <insert upload location> and my browser barked at me. Sorry, I couldn't resist... Glad to help - just let me know where to upload the data and I'll do so.
-
We're mostly on-prem right now, but there are a couple of initiatives in place that will undoubtedly bring some of our monitoring needs into cloud. Yes, it has been useful! It seems SW has a pretty fleshed-out and robust set of monitoring tools for this emerging need...nice.

Thank you, sir!

Are you telling me that guy's name wasn't really Leeroy Jenkins?

Thanks!

It's not my full-time job, but like others here I'm the full-time admin and SCP. I do all customizations, views, and everything else. I don't mind, however. I like using the products, I like the info they produce, and I especially like how useful this data is to my company. I was a SW proponent for many years. In my…

Man, I kind of felt bad reading your entry....it's the written word and I could be getting a false vibe, but you sound downright disheartened. I feel your pain, and fought budget battles for years. Keep up the good fight!

DanielleH - completed the survey a few minutes ago. Thanks for the invitation.

Can anyone on the SW side chime in on this? It seems like this should not be insurmountable to get the appropriate OIDs into the Solarwinds MIB.
-
Based on your comments, I expect your negativity comes largely from the fact that your decision-makers had no understanding or concern about your current network topology, and appropriate IT stakeholders were not brought into the planning process for a smooth implementation. I don't blame you for feeling negative about it.…
-
Fair enough - it's still moderately lame and ill-worded. Either they're all softballs or we have to parse the question to find the curve.
-
That's cool! Hey, could you do us a solid and email the code to Solarwinds? I'm sure they'd be happy to just roll it in to the next point release....

Love this, jgherbert - thank you for sharing it.
