Thanks for the info! I might take a snap, shut down the box, make a clone, try the upgrade on the clone and see what happens....if it blows up, I'll just back out of the room quietly and revert to a snap.

Is there a method to allow this (small indicative square) for application templates? For example, if I have one SQL counter that is at a critical level, I don't really want the entire application to show as critical no matter what. Thanks for any info.

Just curious - what did you experience that made you view the reliability of the sorting function as flakey? Does it sometimes work and sometimes not, or something else?
-
Is increased support for these boxes still in the plan?
-
Gary, thanks - got that part okay. What I'm trying to do is find out an effective method to poll specific DBs inside the instance, and wasn't sure if that's what your earlier post referred to. Thanks for any info.

Mike, what's your preferred plugin for IE?

I have not viewed the Queries subview when we're seeing the cutoffs, but I'll do so the next time it occurs.
-
I didn't know if you could roll back the DB where the properties reside as well as the version. Was a backup of your DB done before the upgrades? Looks like you're just feeling like screaming about it, and I don't blame you. Have a better day, and pound out another rage-filled reply or two - maybe it'll help. If we had…

IPAM uses ICMP, SNMP, DNS, and WMI to perform its various functions. In this case, though, I would say that ICMP is what you want to focus on - as that is the mechanism of ping, which I'll bet initially tells IPAM 'this IP address is up' when the ping response comes back.

I installed Windows Log Forwarder for the first time today on a server to test sending user logon/logoff messages to our Orion server. We have security logging at its most verbose on our servers. When attempting to set up a subscription to forward two events (IDs 4624 and 4634), the CPU on the server spikes to 100% and…

Hi there - I couldn't tell if the new items were released to the store or not. Can you confirm/deny? Thanks!

This may have been covered, but I think a useful walkthrough (especially for those of us who came initially from a transport background) would be a topic we've been discussing on the forums - moving beyond availability, to reachability, and then application 'quality' or 'user experience'. By showing how you put network…

It's not the page the portal sends us to, unfortunately. It probably works for submitting a ticket, but I can't look at my active ones from there I don't think. Thanks for taking a gander at it!

I applaud your restraint!
-
Understood - thanks for taking the time to reply.
-
Okay, updates didn't fix anything. New case is 564833.
-
Thank you for the reply. I'm working another case with support right now on some corrupted views, and am going to wait shortly to see what they make of my current diags before upgrading. I'll keep you posted. Case is 562200.

Sounds like a great idea for a feature request. I'm sure others would like to have the option to build an alert for interface util just based on group.
-
Yep, we are on 10.7. I'll open a case - thanks.
-
Good tip - thank you.

Dude, that's weird. Okay, let's try this. Perhaps there's some keyword or text string inside the node down/up email notification that breaks it. D'you have the ear of your mail admins? Checked the spam/flagged filters there? Also - and maybe other folks or Solarwinds personnel can address this in more detail - if the test…

You are correct - you will require SAM licenses to monitor services.

Thank you. I was querying Win2k3 boxes. Apparently, those counters are not visible under earlier versions of IIS. I queried my SW frontend (running on 2k8 R2) and got the APP_POOL_WAS options, but they are not accessible on the 2k3 targets.

What is the answer to pufferdude's question? I assume it's more accurate to disable L3 whether or not our switches are Layer 3?

In my experience, I haven't seen Netflow not record a conversation due to size. If Netflow sees the packet go in or out of the interface and can attach an interface index to the egress or ingress, it gets measured and added to a netflow datagram. I'm assuming you've verified in your Netflow settings that DNS is listed…

You don't need SQL on the box that houses the FSDB, right? I know *I* certainly don't have SQL on that box and it works perfectly.

In the report manager tab, choose 'Duplicate and Edit' your test report. While editing the duplicate, click 'edit' on the datasource on the Content screen. Here, you can either modify the SQL/SWQL to narrow the report by location, or you can choose a static source if you have already-defined locations.

I blame Java. Always.

Thank you much!

If the word 'correlation' was somewhere in this blurb, the Splunkishness would be harder to dismiss.
