WOW!!! Congratulations to you, Leon! I can't think of someone more qualified to inherit this mantle. Enjoy.

JBOG is an accurate descriptor, I think!

We purchased just this past year, and it's come in handy for a couple of different reasons - not only the 'where are our devices now' piece, but basic port identification/troubleshooting/tracking stuff. It's a relatively small spend for some very useful information and functionality. Just my 2c.

Absolutely - and I think the word 'willing' is a good one here. These things are only bad if we don't own them. If I confront my own ignorance or shortfall, then it never seems so bad that it can't be addressed in some way.

Do you enjoy such a compliance-centric work life? Do you get tired/burnt out/bored or is it a constant on-the-go mission to maintain compliance?

Network, it's been a long road, hasn't it? We've been through a lot together, and delivered an enormous amount of data for a large group of people. You and I both know how important you are - you certainly don't have to tell ME! So why are you lucky to have me? I guess it's because no one else here cares about your success…

Coming up on six years....bump?

I've been doing some pentest/exploit training lately, and these experiences emphasized the point that the human element is always the most fragile piece of any security posture/solution/program. Besides the glaringly obvious social engineering aspects, almost every vulnerability exploit I tested out and worked on was due…

Funniest thing about the article is how absurdly touched I was to be referred to as a 'networking pro'..

This is much, much better than the Failure Kiosk.
-
You shouldn't.

It IS baffling! It would be so useful to save a couple of clicks, especially when those clicks add up over the years.

Thank you! Good memory...

I have a bunch of left-handed guitars (which is good since I'm left-handed!), a decent pile of recording equipment, and other assorted ephemera related to playing and recording music. I've also got too many pairs of running shoes, but I'm getting better about getting rid of old pairs. My wife manages to conceal her…

That's the second rack I've seen in this thread installed sideways...

Couldn't agree more - the only snaps we ever do on our SQL boxes are via our backup platform. I'd never do a snap otherwise unless it was necessary.

There are the things the business cares about. This is any component, service or asset that directly or indirectly makes the company money. There are the things that we in IT care about. This is any component, service or asset that directly or indirectly supports our ability to ensure the company can make money. In my…

I've never thought of work like this, but I've been at my current place awhile. Learned a lot and delivered some value with tools and information, Solarwinds among them. In reality, though, I can't really pretend I've ever been or ever will be more than a ripple in the water of most people's existence, and that's okay. I…

Snapshot : "GIMME MORE" cahunt : I think not....

Not a problem - I was always looking for info like this when I was considering a purchase.

Does this include DPI? Dill Pickle Inspection, that is.

You got coal? Luxury!!!

Ah, the Tannhauser Gate...

Bomp and circumstance!

You're to be commended for working through what was undoubtedly a challenging situation with a vocal and sometimes demanding customer base - well done.

I think many people are excluded from part 2, despite the extended model/make support in GNS. We have plenty of Cisco routers at our prem, but those are managed services and we can't get the images anyway. I do like the idea of part 2 - it would be fun to participate - but the requirements of this particular challenge seem…

I don't think the two models need to conflict with one another. As in virtualization, some boxes require host affinity, some do not.
