I'm surprised to see 0 responses here but if it helps anyone else later I did this upgrade in 2 database steps via an interim SQL 2012 box just for this purpose and decommissioned it once the DB was on SQL 2014 and the Solarwinds sofware pieces upgraded. Hopefully my next query gets more feedback!
