We might have to make you drink more Mead.

Worked on Edge when I typed the URL in manually (from work) but not when I copied and pasted URL. How odd. Not working on Chrome at all. Gave up on Firefox years ago after it became bloatware.

London dates announced. I'm already signed up.

You need SAM. Then you can monitor services and create alerts which can also be used to restart a service if it is not running. I use it all the time. We have some flakey systems who's services are always stopping. Now I don't have to worry. Solarwinds just sees that they have stopped, restarts them and drops me an e-mail…

Started great. Completed all the repairs required by the global company that I had joined 13 months before. Their existing IT people didn't even know that their AD wasn't even replicating between domain controllers and nothing was being patched (amongst so many other issues). They had even finally agreed to replace an…

I did figure this out in the end but can't remember how. I'll dig through my notes and see if I can get you an answer.

OK. I guess congratulations are in order. I've been digging around the DCs and have found lots of stuff not configured. I've set up a custom perfmon data collector and added the items from one of the AD monitoring templates. Just playing around with the collection scheduling and will see what happens. Come back Novell, all…

Grant, Sorry to hear that. I hope you have something better. Thanks for responding. I am trying the 2012 templates and will run it past James after I run out of ideas. I'd rather not install the agent as these are Domain Controllers and management get a bit funny about installing software (even if it is vital and the…

Anyone got an answer to this. We've just replaced our domain controllers (2008 to 2012 - yes I know but I have no say in things). and are getting this. A fix without reboots would be nice as we can only reboot servers from 07:00 to 09:00 on Tuesday mornings (unless something breaks, then we can do what we like ).

Started on Netware 2.15, did a lot of 3 then actually got certified on 4, 5 and 6. Those were the days when server O/S actually worked. I remember installing a superserver at Novell's Bracknell HQ (UK). They were debating whether to run Netware 4.11 (it was just out) or Windows NT3.51. I pointed to the 12 snakes on the…

Like it. I think I was actually working for Unisys then (It was just after Sperry and Borroughs merged.

Stop all the Bee nonsense. I support Wasps (no really I do). They are a Premiership Rugby team in England and we won on Saturday).

My biggest challenge has always been trying to figure out what planet my predecessor was on when he / she set up monitoring in the first place. It has always been someone who doesn't have any idea of what is important and has never applied any logic to what they have been doing. I've usually just scrapped what they have…

A "Custom Application" could be one created internally, one created specifically for us by an external source or a hybrid of the two. It is pretty much anything that isn't an 'off the shelf package'. It is something specifically tailored for our needs.

Not really sure how to answer this one. We use on prem data storage replicated to the cloud so users can get fast access when in the office and can still access from anywhere else without us having to put in lots of extra networking stuff. Also removes the need for backups. I guess we will be using exactly the same.

None really apply either. I had just racked the server hardware for our Solarwinds solution when we were sent home. I hadn't set up remote access to the tin so can't install O/S or Orion. I would have had all the monitoring set up which would have been very useful in the event of a major situation but unfortunately the…

We currently have a free version of Nagios which I inherited and was very poorly set up. I've done my best with it and put together the case for a decent system. We got the money approved for Solarwinds and bought the hardware and software. I had just fitted the tin into the server racks when we were all sent home. Another…

Must learn to read the question. D'Oh. Have recommended this to my workmates.

New to SolarWinds and was lucky enough to attend the SWUG in London this week. I thought that my lack of knowledge would mean I couldn't give feedback. I now know different and signed up on the day.

Bag finally arrived and guess what. I'm a loser
