Hackers will always be a step ahead. We have to try to cover all bases and react to new attacks. Hackers just have to think up new ways. We have to be lucky all the time. They just have to be lucky once.

Will the AI be made to sigh a non disclosure agreement and how will it be prosecuted for breaking the agreement. I'm sure you won't be allowed to turn it off as some do-gooder will try to class it as a life form and therefore have rights.

Ours has evolved to be a complete mess with very heavy over commitment in VMWare.. That's why we are replacing the lot with brand new Dell HCI running on VxRail. Should be interesting.

Clear as mud.

I watch human beings make terrible decisions every day. What's to say AIs won't just do the same given that their underlying programming was done by the same human beings. Don't forget that our underlying programming was done by our parents, relatives and first school teachers..

I started here a few months ago and found that no one talked to our service providers. We have a Managed service for Solarwinds and no one was talking to them to keep the system up to date. We now have a weekly teleconference set up to get the lines of communication open and I have a contact there who will make changes /…

Too right. My first inkling of a project was when the supplier turned up with the project manager and said they were there to install stuff. Apparently the project manager had brought in some mates to do a Cloud Readiness Awareness Project (yep he hadn't spotted the acronym). He had spent £250,000 and all they were going…

Bumps ? Mine has bloody great pot holes and some of the bridges we have to cross haven't even been built yet.
-
I completed the final mission correctly, took the survey and was then presented with a screen saying I got the question wrong. That means that I won't be entered for the prize draw. What is going on.

If anyone knows about security loopholes it's Microsoft.

We have farmed some stuff out to the cloud and are always getting complaints about how some things work and look. We have to tell the users that it is now outside of our control because of decisions made by some of them. We can monitor some stuff but can't really "fix" it when the cloud becomes unavailable due to…

7-Eleven Japan. Does anyone TEST software anymore BEFORE going live.
-
Monitoring is also important to ensure SLAs from the cloud vendor. At least you can then blame someone else for poor systems performance (even though it is still your fault as you made the decision to go to the cloud).

Not wicked ? I was

Noooooo. Now there are two correct answers.

This would be cool but a little weird if I used it near my house and saw myself walking towards me on my motorcycle riding past (yep I found myself on streetview).

It doesn't matter how smart the technology is. It is still used by knuckledraggers (I'm thinking Marines here - both US and UK).
-
It rarely gets below 4 degrees C so a decent thinsulate undersuit and a good drysuit, dry gloves and a thick neoprene hood usually see me ok for at least 4 hours. I would guess you would need to go through an airlock to get in so would warm up whilst inside so would only have to worry about the decompression on the way…

Surely Zuckerberg doesn't need any protection. With all the data people freely give him he must have enough dirt on everyone to keep him safe.

Nice one. Saw them live at Wembley Arena last year. Still kicking ass.

Bill Burr was the man in question and here is a UK newspaper story about it. Sorry if you can't access it but just search for his name. Password guru who told the world to make them complicated admits: I got it completely wrong
-
Now that would be too easy. I did that then started to second guess myself until I took a 'Brave' pill and selected the correct answer.

Today's question has a problem. The 2nd answer "Node - Peak CPU used" isn't listed in the table so I didn't tick the box and got the question wrong. Seems a bit unfair.
-
Yes. I did this with the Managed Service Provider. They got nowhere with Solarwinds. I then raised it directly with Solarwinds (during a UX on the new portal design) and got nowhere. I raised it on here and got a response that they were looking into a more granular portal which would accommodate people in our situation.…

I think we need to train people to understand that the universe doesn't revolve around them and not everyone wants to hear their meaningless drivel. Any tool that helps a geographically diverse team to communicate and work better has to be good but it also shouldn't be used for too much non work related stuff. We use Teams…

End of 2017 I started on Solarwinds SAM. We are about to replace all our on site hardware in both data centres with a Hyper Converged Infrastructure solution based on Dell VxRail. We will also roll back half our 1000 server estate which is in IBM Cloud to these new systems all whilst keeping everything running and…

The locator is just based on guesswork. Educated guesswork but still guesswork.

I love having a technical exam in the interview. It is so easy to spot when they are fishing for a free fix for an existing problem and then watch them squirm when you challenge them. When I was contracting I used to double the rate I was asking for if they did this secure in the knowledge that they could say no but would…
-
Agree with a lot of this but it is very difficult to make time for training when you are in a very small team having to specialise in everything because there aren't enough of us. I can't do anything before setting off for work because I get up at 06:00 to get to work for 09:00 (usually just under two hours to travel from…

Working in London we have to be aware and plan for terrorist attacks. That usually just means locking the doors and hiding but the, not so usual now, problem of bomb attacks still needs to be taken into account. We are also under the landing flight path of Heathrow airport so there is the, hopefully, very rare possibility…
