Yes and I have passed this to our 'network security' peeps. We are a university and every student wants BYOD access. The WiFi is locked down to only people with AD credentials so the internal data access is restricted. PCs and laptops are checked for anti-virus software and patches before they get past the VPN and will be…

Why would anyone want to join a country club and why would a country club want millennials ?

Emoji number plates. No thanks. The plates are there for a reason and anything that makes them harder to read is a bad thing. Also, I'm not too sure I'd like to see a smiley face looking at me as I bounce down the road after being knocked down. (Yes emoji added as irony).

We are operating a skeleton staff at work and the rest from home. The users are mostly working from home. We had just put in Zoom for everyone so that will help and we have tested our business continuity plan just last week (wonder what prompted that). I'm at home today and just waiting for a zoom conference with my IT…

Now if only management would give us the money to get the latest software / updates and pay for the overtime to install / apply updates and patches. Unbelievably management want us to patch the Meltdown and Spectre issues between 08:00 and 09:00 on Tuesday morning. Yes, every affected system (1000+).

Don't be evil. It's probably best to assume they are all tracking everything. It's probably true and you won't be surprised.

Make them sign away any rights to medical care first then allow them to do whatever they want to themselves. Problem should mostly die away.

Olympics. I live in London. Londoners were taxed extra to fund the Olympics in 2012. I haven't seen any benefits as all the new build sporting venues are on the far side of London and take well over an hour to get to. Also, who wants to go to Stratford anyway. It did mean a large area of London was knocked down to build…

Training is the first thing to be cut. I can't remember the last training I had.

@"undesired_result" Well done. Wrong again. I'm not a boomer.

I understand the infighting between IT departments and pushing tickets back to people who should be able to handle an issue BUT please don't forget the user who just ends up being stuck in the middle while we fight about who should fix the problem. After all, we only exist because they do.

You have to be really careful with scripting. Here they didn't manage scripting at all. Now, after several people have left, we have scripts coming out of the woodwork where weird things are happening when we try to change things. We don't know about obscure scripts running as scheduled tasks from many servers. Sometimes…

@"ecklerwr1" missed opportunity for wordplay there. Should have been "so we (sc)roll with it". Agree it is too geared up for phones / tablets yet most people on here would probably be at work using PCs or laptops at their desks. plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose.

Driverless cars could disrupt the airline industry until the road congestion causes gridlock and no one can get anywhere. If only there was an alternative. Oh yes, flying. But the airlines have all gone out of business.

I think I have just about stopped laughing at that. I'm the Sys Admin. We have a Global Head of IT, an Infrastructure Manager, a Security Manager, Me, 3 x Seniot IT Engineers / Analysts, 3 x junior admins, 2 x network admins, a programmer and the rest are 1st and 2nd line. It's all a bit manic.

Don't forget that for many years the code for America's nuclear arsenal was 00000000. Yep, 8 zeros. That was for Ronnie Raygun so he could remember. I think (hope) the have changed it now. Just don't tell the orange troll.

I agree but reality trumps everything else. Patching window is 07:00 to 09:00 Tuesday and, as they won't pay overtime for it and no one starts before 08:00 we only get 1 hour per week for patching. It doesn't matter how much we rant and rave at them, they won't listen. I don't care anymore. I just wait for things to break…

ServiceNow for IT. Estates have just put their own one in but can't get it to work. They came to IT for help and we said NO.

Can't even open the link. Apparently, according to the muppets at zScaler, that site is not suitable for work. A damning indictment on AWS.

Nice fire pit although without anything to give it scale I will assume it is just big enough to take one of the s'mores you mention.

Don't go anywhere near the computer after I've had a few so have never bought anything I shouldn't (so far).

I don't really get the Netflix one. It looks like a solution looking for a problem. I know I'm not influenced by a still from a programme. It's the storyline or the premise of the programme that gets me interested. If that grabs my attention then it is irrelevant who is in it or what facial expression they have.

Google tracking everyone. Now that's a surprise - not.

So you can activate these crappy devices by using sounds humans can't hear. Well no one saw that coming (except almost everyone). Next they'll bring back 'blipverts' Come back Max Headroom, all is forgiven.

In the past I was told I would have to sign a contract which stated that I would repay training costs if I left. I refused and they quickly decided that I would get the training anyway as they would have lost out on a major contract if I wasn't trained. As it turned out I left after another 3 years so the contract wouldn't…

There was no need for research to tell you that Mondays are BAD. The Boomtown Rats told us why Mondays are bad years ago.

Ah, you've seen our password repository then.

Surely it would be either "101010" or "What do you get if you multiply SIX by NINE".

AI might become good but how will we know that the answers aren't being skewed or manipulated by whoever is behind the AI. Can we ever trust it ?

Don't quite understand today's answers. I answered what appeared to be correctly and was marked wrong. Seems very strange.
