  • Support emailed me telling me to install 9.5 SP1 and that would fix the issue. I noticed that it wasnt in the release notes for the SP though. After installing the service pack, the maintenance job still ran good. Took about 5 minutes on my 33GB database. I also noticed that the chunk size I had set to 1,000,000 was now…
  • I had a similar issue today where a server was rebooted this past Sunday and has shown as 100% CPU utilization in Orion since. Everything on the server looked fine; the CPU was low and it was functioning correctly. Orion even showed the volumes as being down. When clicking on List Resources, only the Ethernet adapters…
  • the official response i got from them was to refer to this thread (great support!). i set my chunk size to 1,000,000 in those three stored procedures and now everything runs smooth.
  • That is what I currently do and it works ok. Some of the pages still dont fit on the screen well, and since I dont code any web stuff I couldnt get a custom page to fit better. I have a coworker that uses a tool by Idera (i think called mobile manager) to monitor SQL servers stats and performance and it actually loads a…
  • I did finally upgrade yesterday and for my 53GB database it took about 4.5 hours. Not that bad considering the first attempt to upgrade filled the drive with the tempdb (there was 30GB's free) and I had to restart using upgraded disk. Otherthan that, things went smooth and are working fine.
  • I got this setup and working today. Works good and it returns the correct values.
  • Funny that you mention that because this DB was once 75Gb, and growing rapidly. I had opened a ticket with SW and they kept telling me to run the compact and rebuild tool but that wasnt working. It would keep failing. My DBA ended up doing his own compact on the DB and he got it down to 45Gb. Now the SW jobs actually run.
  • This is a great idea. In my opinion it doesnt even have to be a pop up box, maybe just a scrollable window on the side or bottom of the List Resources window. This way it will be easy for people that are not as advanced with Orion to add custom properties.
  • I am running Orion v10 and I just tried adding a custom report to my main page and I am getting this same result. Did anyone ever get a resolution on this?
  • I am having the same issue. About an hour into database maintenance a process starts blocking and crushes the server. I killed the process being blocked and the job is continuing to run. Please post their solution when you have it.
  • I have noticed the same problem. The view doesnt get filtered based on the volume or interface you want to test on, which is really annoying. It makes it nearly impossible to test an alert unless you are doing disk and it has a unique ID after the drive letter. Along with not being able to test from the System Manager, I…
  • I completely agree with what has been said here. I have worked with Orion since 2005 and I remember how great support was. I would call in, I would get a live person in a matter of minutes and my issue would be worked on until it was fixed. My most recent experience was a couple months ago I upgraded to 8.1 and I had…
  • I looked at that other post you linked to but that person was doing a filter on the webpage. I am actually trying to setup the alert. I attached the image of the what I have in my alert.
  • Couldnt you use NetFlow to get a better representation of the data? If you dont have the Orion NetFlow module, you could download a demo of it or try to get one of the many free ones out there, but they are limited on how long you can keep the data for.
  • What protocol are you using on your router. If you are using MGCP, you cannot monitor active channels with SNMP. It is possible though wtih H.323.
  • Ya, I have been keeping up on the posts. I signed up for the beta list during the summer but never heard anything about it. Now I am just waiting...
  • I upgraded form 8.1 to 8.5.1 this morning and everything worked great. I had some errors unregistering some .dll files when it was uninstalled 8.1 but the 8.5.1 install still went fine and everything started working again without an issue. It took about 20 minutes to do the upgrade, including the .NET 3.0 install.
  • Yes, you are right. I re-read the post and now I understand the request.
  • What makes the Universal Device Poller so great in your opinion? I downloaded a demo of Orion 9 SP2 and it seemed lik the UDP is very similar to the Custom MIB Poller provided in 8.5.1. I didnt see a big difference between the two, unless I am missing something.
  • This too is a good idea. I had used the Advanced Alert engine for version 7 and it was pretty bruital at times. Also, I found it very difficult to alert on only certain devices, but by creating custom properties, I can see how this would be much easier. Thanks for the tip.
  • We had a product that was monitoring the SQL database of Orion and it caused major issues with locking. Every time it would pull stats from the DB, it would lock the DB and Orion would slow down. Eventually Orion would miss writing things to the DB. And this monitoring server was polling every 30 seconds so it was…
  • I have always noticed this as well, I guess I never thought too much about it though. I figured since it was the CSS, and they are known for their quirks, that it was an issue with it. But if you List Resources within System Manager, CPU and Memory show up in the list.
  • I would like to have a "lite" version of the webpage. Acknoledging alerts would be one thing I would like to do but also seeing information, like the Top 10 page or the Nodes with Problems. This could even be a separate page with a "mobile" view and I would just access a shortcut. The problem right now is the formatting of…
  • My database is 45 gigs. Any estimate how long it will take to run? I have am still running 7.8.5.
  • I had thought about putting the app on a 64-bit but we run some other misc troubleshooting tools from this server and most of them wouldnt work on 64-bit. I am leaning more towards a 32-bit for the app and a 64-bit for the server just so other things would still work on the app server.
  • Does this work well for you? Do you ever experience performance issues running Orion on 32bit? Do you have anything else running on the Orion application server besides Solar Winds products? This is the direction I think I am going to go but I wanted to get some feedback from someone first.
  • This fixed it. The install says it will include this rule automatically but it must not have worked. Thanks for the help.
  • I had the same issue and error code. I always stop the alerting service before doing anything just in case some goes crazy, I dont want everyone getting alerted. That is what was killing my upgrade. After that service was running again, the upgrade went fine.
  • I have used th MIB tool a lot and it is pretty cumbersome at first. It took a while to figure out how to find a MIB and actually find out how to get the information from it. Luckily I stumbled across it in the webpage configuration one day. Even if Orion can't import or create custom MIBs like we all want, it would at…
