Indeed, true, managing Custom Properties is difficult for large environments with 50 different Net Admins adding devices 24/7.
-
Huge security risk, no?
-
How would we specific this view for the current Interface being alerted on? Query? Thanks
-
You can put the pools into perpetual unmanaged mode but I find this solution sloppy. The AppInsight templates are a challenge to manage and alert on with any semblance of granularity unfortunately. These are things alot of folks don't really comprehend when managing 1000 IIS servers with thousands of sites. The…

See the alert, "Alert me when a managed node has not been polled during the last 5 tries..."
-
The alert is already in your alerts section. It is built in. You just have to configure it to your liking. It is names something like "alert me when an objects hasn't been polled successfully the last 5 tries"... Sorry I am not at my desk to give you the exact name.

Bingo, from your URL. "Here's the problem when you use a single template all the time. Take a situation where you have a server running multiple Oracle databases - so you assign multiple application monitors to the node and you edit them to modify the SID and credentials. Now you've got multiple App monitors deployed to…

Ignore, figured it out.

Bob - I want to add pre-existing nodes....100+ SQL servers.
-
Considering NetAtlas sill has documented unfixed bugs from 2009, I predict we will see these requested features in 10.0 - around 2020. I don't know how large companies manage SQL monitoring with SW. Oh, thats right, they still use SCOM.
-
Can you elaborate on the Alert changes? Bugs or new ways of doing things? Thanks
-
Alrighty then. My main point is, with large volumes, % is not the way to manage. We need MB level overrides. if I sound cranky, I am because we have fought this same problem for years with SolarWinds. With our other tool, we can override at the MB level, volume level. Easy money.

Try a restart of all services. This one is a PITA indeed.
-
Indeed. Imagine having to manage 1500 servers with 20 different group custom properties. This is terrible for large clients.
-
I thought NPM 12.1 was supposed to fix it.
-
Imagine if we could do registry based discoveries and management of services intelligently like that other tool on the market? Since you cannot do such a thing with SolarWinds, you will have to create a separate template for every server if those services are disparate and the naming varies between servers.

Well at least you aren't using Nagios and can dismiss one bad experience with support. My past few tickets seemed like they were rushed and had no personal tone. It seemed like the engineer probably had like 100 tickets in his queue and was speeding along just offering suggestions without any personal attention. I think…

The quick "fix" is always to upgrade. In the middle of such silliness now with 2 clients.

Check the below out of the box alerts. These do it for us. Node not polled in last 10 minutes Node polling failed on last 5 tries

Oracle Database (Updated)

Have you looked at the Oracle User Experience monitor documentation? All is in there. Google, is your frenemy.
-
I call them out on oversights too. The Appinsight SQL PDF had a handful of bogus info that amazes me no one else noticed and they corrected it. It goes to show that companies are imperfect whether it be examples such as this or grammatical or spelling errors on their web site or within documentation. Perfection is always…

12.0.1 is a clunky junker to those that did not do a clean install.
-
I've seen the same issue and restarting services seems to be the only way back to normalcy.
-
"I''ve already seen the mad scientist blog post showing how to do this with major surgery but I'm looking for a supported solution that we can apply to other performance counters as well." I don't have a day or 2 to hack around trying to do something so simple that I do in other tools. This type of monitor/trigger was…

We created a friendly URL doing this: 1. Created noc.bighugecompany.com DNS alias to IP of IIS site 2. Configured IIS site redirect to go to non friendly URL View ID.

Granular disk alerting is a challenge without trying all the hacks people produce. Out of the box it's not great for large shops that need to apply rules based on MB free or GB free. Alerting is solid for buckets of servers for % thresholds. Very solid. But lack of override at the MB level kills us. Not a hater here, just…

They should simply revert to how it was. Rely on the check box and keep all alert objects text black regardless of status. I WANT to see my disabled monitors. They should NOT be hidden. They should not be barely visible gray.

Perhaps this person was also the guy that told MS to remove the start button from Windows. Genius.

You just summarized the source of 99% of my posts about SolarWinds' lack of automation. This is why SOCM is so much easier to manage. If someone adds 100 SQL servers, 200 IIS servers, and 501 Exchange Servers I don't have to lift a finger and I have totally automated monitoring and ongoing automated discovery of Disks, IIS…
