Has this Netapp MIB really still not been added after all this time??

I'll take a Spot Mini to fetch me a cold one....

Working phone support about 15 years ago. Walking an 81 year old non-technical person through replacing a mother board in a PC over the phone... Many hours and many tears all around and of course ol Murphy made himself present many times.

I would be curious as to what challenges the applications would have on the databases themselves. If needing acceptance testing ahead of time, I would certainly copy over backup files and restore from backups. If time permits doing a hard cutover at some point, I would drop the databases and move them over and bring them…

Please no versatilist talks...

This is definitely an area where I see many different opinions. I'm of the mindset that you should establish standards or even tiers. Often times we are way over monitoring items and paying premium prices to do so when no one is ever looking at that data. I like the idea of having a basic level of monitoring, maybe an…

We use an assortment of tools... Monitis, ThousandEyes, Nagios, Check_MK, and are in process of rolling out Splunk. I would much rather a single pane of glass solution that could handle most of this. Multi-tenant is a big need as well.
-
Are the AppInsight templates the only SAM items that will count as a child item today or will any/all SAM templates/components that are monitored be picked up as a child object?
-
SolarWinds: NPM SAM NCM UDT Tools: New Relic Aternity Sitescope CA APM Site24x7 Manage Engine Applications Manager CellTraq HP BSM CEM SCOM OMS Splunk There are probably more. We have a sprawl issue as you can tell....
-
I'd be happy with license renewals for SW products beyond 2017! The death star that is Splunk is approaching and powers at be, seem to think it will replace EVERYTHING.
-
There is a ton of recently released SAM templates that you can use to pull in metrics and statuses from MS API. I have these running. The biggest thing I need now is a round trip test that works with Exchange online.
-
Did any features ever get developed to measure round trip through Exchange Online w/ SAM?

I'm not understanding the difference between a Generalist and Versatilist I guess. To me there are two classifications that one can fit in. Your either broad, but shallow or your narrow and deep. I've heard there are unicorns out there that are broad and deep....

hahaha

Marked on the calendar for sure!

Could really use this ASAP... Many third party tools are now offering it. I would like to avoid having another tool brought in just for the O365 stuff.
-
If it isn't the network, it's got to be the storage right??
-
This would be a fantastic addition! We have a NOC staff that fronts and handles most of those alerts for us. I do agree though having such a tool would be very nice and prevent us from having to use third party tools such as windirstat.

Don't get your hopes up, nothing good can come of it!

Yes! Can't wait for the Linux log file ingestion to be released!

I guess our definitions of IT Pros are a bit different. Your generalist description falls more into the Help Desk/NOC category in my books. Maybe that's the disconnect? I'm thinking of IT Professionals as Administrator/Engineer levels. Where a generalist certainly knows much, much more than has been eluded to above. I…

Good article, though I think using ICMP as your monitoring example is probably a little dated. Yes, ICMP is still useful today, but let's be honest it's usually only one protocol and part of the larger overall monitoring solution.

This feature would allow me to purchase the product.

LogicMonitor (Will be replacing everything below, except Splunk.) Monitis ThousandEyes Nagios & Check_mk Splunk

Done.

Yes, Please.

Hungry for lunch now...

The I hate you letter sounded so familiar when reading.. lol That one was def worth the read.

Sad to see this go virtual. I enjoyed seeing you all when you came to Portland & Seattle. Though now that I think about it I don't think anyone is left from SolarWinds that I once visited with. Such is the eb & flow of SolarWinds when you all are private you innovate and do some cool stuff, when you go public you try and…
