Really good read. Could we be looking at a potential novel in the future?
-
HP OpenView. Oh the horrors. Thank goodness we replace that about five years ago with our beloved SolarWinds.
-
Dez, this is an awesome write up. I love the way you break it down. Even the novice can internalize this and understand the insider threat.
-
You can script NCM to look for just about anything. I like NESSUS as our default network scanner. It's great. However, not only can we find vulnerabilities in our Cisco gear, but we can automate the fix as well. Just ask Dr. goodzhere.
-
For true nerds, the testing and planning are the fun parts. The anticipation of seeing a script you wrote work properly and consistently, sweet.
-
Thanks for the write up. Great read.

We are doing better at monitoring, but we still need improvement. Security is still treated like a *** step-child, though. Management is willing to check the check boxes the say we are compliant. However, compliant is not secure. I actually had one security manager that would state that if we were compliant, then we were…

I am a retired ET1. I absolutely love the creativity!

The 7 Times Technology Almost Destroyed The World was my favorite. Love military mishaps and potential fallout(no pun intended) Like the time the USS Kitty Hawk, CV-63 ran over a Russian Submarine in 1984.

Tight lines to ya.

Very good write up. Thank you!

Best Al Yankovic song?

Great write up. I agree with all four points. Jfrazier, work at the speed of Government. So very true.

Yep

Meetings...ugg

Yes, and now we sit and wait until the next round. Oh course we will be actively discussing our choices.
-
I have to agree with Christopher Good, since we are two desks apart. We use SCCM for Windows, Yum for RedHat, and I have a continuous CVE feed to stay aware of Cisco vulnerabilities.
-
I think we all have seen this. Using a single monitoring tool that is used by all can help bridge those silos in short order.
-
What do we need to do to get this rolling?

1983 - US Navy, Main frame programmer/maintainer 1995 - PC repair, HPUX admin, network admin on 10Base5 2000 - MCSE, WINNT sysadmin 2002 - USN Retired, Novell admin, WIN 2000 admin, Cisco admin 2004 - Network Admin 2008 - Firewall and IDS admin 2010 - Computer Network Defense 2015 - Computer Network Defense

Yes I do have that network. Fortunately I work with most of them.

Congrats to the winners. I am a bit envious. Sounds like it is going to be a great time. Enjoy!
-
Thank you for the write up.

Got my GROL back in 1995. Thought I would continue as an ET after the Navy. Plans changed. Still love the radio side of the house.
-
I would say most, like 99 percent. Some inventions were just dumb luck.
-
As long as vulnerable systems exist on the Internet, exploits for those same systems will continue to exist.
-
Especially number 4. That is what drew me into this field in the first place, an endless supply of new things to learn.
-
So many close calls over the years. It's a miracle we haven't blown each other up.
-
I had to blow up the magnification in the browser. Second rate, but it works.

Can we have write in votes?
