I too agree with Jfrazier they have their place. Using them for upgrades and fixes. But you still need to fully backup your servers.

Multiple carriers is the way to go. Just don't enter the building at the same place. We are lucky as ours enters on opposite ends of the data center.

Major upgrades should never be "Flying by the seat of your pants" event. Plan, Plan, and then Plan some more. I gone thought four major upgrade events this year alone and am ready for some quite time.
