as far as I can tell it is the 'mark 1 eyeball' only... the maps are totally separate from the application... you will need to manually check the devices off a list to make sure they are all there!! Martin J. Hamilton... lost in a sea of snmp...

I agree with the above statement 'bang for buck'.. Orion wins this race hands down... I am a smallish site with 12x6509's, 30+ Wintel and 10 x Sun servers.... we use SLX250 and Wupro from IPswitch to cover all requirements... the TCO for the software and hardare was less than $10k and this worked out less than a tenth of…

now we are getting somewhere.... Don.. what are we defining as custom properties here..... for example.. will I be able to load a mib for a custom non-standard device and then drill down to each of the OID's and add to the system... Scenario - I have a Sinetica Netcom-TH module that monitors temp and ups in my DC, the I…

Thanks for the response..... did a search but it is mostly just speculation... Surely someone from Solarwinds would be nice enough to post a deffinitive list??!?... or at least a WIP?!?!... Or maybe even a section on the website for 'future' developements and roadmaps would be useful.... Oh well.. I guess I can just keep…

so no one knows nuffin then....?!?! ,,,,,,,,,,, that's not a good sign then........... Martin J. Hamilton... lost in a sea of snmp...

And this is the v8 achiles heel.......... I am quite sure that everyone was under the impression that we would all be able to do this... I have found that most of the devices that I was looking forward to polling in v8 are not supported and thus I can't do any custom polling with them... very frustating Martin J.…

I have done a tonne of work with Net-SNMP and Orion on Solaris and have a stable reporting environment and installation process... Let me know the following and I will see if I can assist 1 - Solaris version? 2 - NET-SNMP version? 3 - Did you self compile or use a precompiled binay? 4 - Are you running the built in SUN…

not sure exactly what you are asking for here but I have created a new page in the Orion website called Services and then inserted a modified custom HTML resource pointing to my WUG site.,.. et voila WUG withing Orion... Martin J. Hamilton... lost in a sea of snmp...

have you made and changes to the devices since the maps were created... I have found that if you delete a device and re-add it the map entry also needs to be changed to reflect..... hover over each device and look for a 'device missing' message or similar. Martin J. Hamilton... lost in a sea of snmp...

I totally agree with Ng.. using multiple nics over dmz is a bad idea..... if this laptop is hacked the whole firewall will be breached and bypassed.. use the rules for the device ip address and snmp Martin J. Hamilton... lost in a sea of snmp...

unforntunetly this is a manul process and there are 2 quite long winded ways to do it 1 - goto the device in question just before the maintenance period and set it to 'unmanage' until the date and time the maint window closes. 2 - in the alterts window put your devices into logical groups or 'buckets' and untick the…

I have just got my first Sun box running net-snmp5.0.9 added to my system. The CPU and memory reporting is perfect... I am using Orion 7.3 and seem to remember reading somewhere that this issue was addressed at v7.22. Martin J. Hamilton... lost in a sea of snmp...

Don... with regards to 7.6.. has it gone gold yet??.. or is it still in beta?? ...... Martin J. Hamilton... lost in a sea of snmp...

I am running 7.5 and this feature is only avaiable via the management console Martin J. Hamilton... lost in a sea of snmp...

only v1/2 supported at this time.. I think v8 may support v3 Martin J. Hamilton... lost in a sea of snmp...

have you located the files that are the pictures for these items??.. I guess you could replace them with flashing gif files of your choice and see what happens... Martin J. Hamilton... lost in a sea of snmp...

box should be fine..however with this amount of elements you will need a full blown instance of SQL to hold the data.. the basic version supplied with the software wont be able to go above 2G in size.... Martin J. Hamilton... lost in a sea of snmp...

however you can send MIB to Solarwind to be added to the the Solarwind MIB Update packages... these can then be downloaded and add MIBs to your system... [8)] Martin J. Hamilton... lost in a sea of snmp...

this is quite simple really... just create you maps as separate items within the tool and simply create an object (i.e. UK flag for UK) and then edit this new object and add the relevant map as its active agent..... So when you click on the UK flag it will take you to the relevant map that you created in mapmaker. Good…

what I do here is assign a round robin dns name.... for example both servers can be referenced via name smtp.domain.com.... you can then use this within the notification tool instead of the IP address... et voila off you go... Martin J. Hamilton... lost in a sea of snmp...

when I migrated to a new box and new version installation..... I restored the database using the database management tool and then ran the setup module... I forgot my password to but when it asked more the logon I entered it.. after inputting the wrong password it asked me if I wanted to set a new one. Strange but true...…

wow that's not good...thus far I am seeing constant improvements in performance... 7.5 - 7.7 - 7.8 have all equalled faster load times etc... Martin J. Hamilton... lost in a sea of snmp...

Hello there....... I use Notepager successfully on my Orion box to send SMS messages via a POTS line... the advantage of this over an ISP provided service is that it can act as a 'last-man-standing' instance if your LAN or WAN links go down...... Let me know your questions and I will try to answer.... just looking at the…

just right click on each device and goto its property page.... you can adjust the ip address within here Martin J. Hamilton... lost in a sea of snmp...

Welcome to the world of Orion (or Onion as we lovingly call it at work!!).. You are a bit scuppered ref pinging the device.. SNMP is using port 162 (give or take 1) to monitor the services on the device such as disk, cpu and memory etc... however uptime and availability for the device is done purely by good old fashion…

it is in the post above... under PDF... here is the direct link solarwinds.net/.../default.htm be happy now [;)] Martin J. Hamilton... lost in a sea of snmp...

Just upgraded 7.5 to 7.7 with no issues to talk about.... website performance has greatly improved.. this seems like a really stable and good upgrade. Martin J. Hamilton... lost in a sea of snmp...

your question is a bit unclear.. are you talking about tftp'ing files between 2k3 boxes (in which case the answer is no) or if he can tftp files from your Cisco router (in which case the answer is yes)??? Martin J. Hamilton... lost in a sea of snmp...
