True, but the problem is that I just rebuilt the solarwinds environment from scratch (decomm'd the 8 year old system). We had a new OTV stretched layer 2 vlan between our 2 datacenters and I got the new SW system built in there. So I didnt pull the old report writer goodies with it. Plus, I'd rather it be fixed the right…

Thanks! Yeah, I was able to make something work with Report Writer- but lets retire that old clunky thing! Web based is soo much slicker- but less able. Im hoping it will be a quick fix for the developers to put in time variables inside of table creations for data input.

Grr....

Do we have any support for aruba's wifi systems? They are a very open vendor and if you guys don't have it built yet, I am sure they would love to work with you guys.
-
I just upgraded our environment using the new installer. WOW! That was a breeze! No issues at all. Kudos to the team who put that together! Only comment would be to make sure you upgrade to 4.6.2 MS .net... install flops if you dont have it and then complains you need it. I am REALLY looking forward to digging into the ASA…

I think, in general, in the reporting system, there needs to be the easy ability to define which time frames you want to grab this information. For example, creating wan circuit utilization graphs and tables. The graphs currently are nice and pretty- they are perfect. But the tables show 24x7 data. So when I average that…

rschroeder- my tact was simple. I convinced my operations manager to buy once license to "move" to where ever the biggest fire was. DBA's moaned and groaned about hooking up the credentials initially. ("what do you mean you need SA temporarilly???" ) But once DPA identified the long chronic problem with that system- word…

While I did have issues originally with the centralized upgrades, i believe those were self inflicted. I applied the recent hot fixes via centralized upgrades and it was flawless. Much appreciated solarwinds team...

unless you are at 100% on the main poller/ Additional Web Engine, I doubt the slowness is coming from them- in other words, I would look at the database performance. What is your page life expectancy on the DB, CPU reading during slow times, etc. Also check your rabbitMQ queues. Sometimes things get stuck in there and…
-
What is your cpu and memory configurations on the Main Poller and database? why did you just now hit 12.3? I would try to get to 12.5 asap (test in test first)- unless you are .gov or .mil where it takes forever to get versions approved.
-
We had big issues too with the 12.3. Upgrading was a last resort from another issue we were having (that was not solarwinds fault). [windows servers apparently dont like doing authentication in OTV networks if the MTU sizes arent adjusted to 1430 with persistent]. Causes Local Security Authority Process to spike up when…

highly recommend never installing updates for at least 3 months post release if you dont have a test environment. Also, did you have backups? After a week or two of problems, we backed out and restored our servers to pre-update. We lost some data, but the environment is stable. We should have done it in test first, but we…

Very likely correct. why does the solarwinds offline installed not install it on its own?
-
I agree with that- actually. I suspect this one had some added challenges with the .net 4.7.2 requirements. As long as you pre-flight that one, Im not sure there are any show stoppers. I am not sure if this was "the" update that Solarwinds was talking about fixing some performance issues or not, but I am very very happy so…

You may need to rename the Inetpub directory and delete the website and app pool. Running the config wizard (using a new name for the website path- should fix it. Don’t forget to associate your cert afterwards.
-
Yes- we downloaded and packaged it up using our patch system to push it.
-
Apparently this is a normal return on the configuration wizard if you are using HTTPS instead of HTTP for the solarwinds website.

serena Mind having some peeps take a look at what saw10 mentioned above? I have a closed support case that documented some details. Case # 00232402 I did perform the settings recommended by saw10, which included an IISreset (which fixed us last time). Since upgrading, on 12/19 around 5pm, we have had 3 complete website…

If this is on a shared blade, I question CPU wait time as 48 processors is a MCT of power. (Metric Crap Ton). I highly suspect database issues. What does your orion platform architecture look like. I understand you have 1 server with 48 cores, 1 socket. But what else do you have running? PLEASE tell me you have the…
-
I didnt deploy it to the database servers, just the Main Poller, APEs, and Additional Web Servers (can we change their name so we can use the abbreviation AWS????) I would be interested to see if you or anyone else loses the menu bars at the top.
-
Good point- I have never done the "online" version so I dont have to wait for the internet pull while executing the upgrade. I pre-stage it on my desktop, move it to the server, and execute file at start change control. Goes much faster. We finally got approval for a full test lab solarwinds- so this is our last "lets test…

Ok- Let me know if you need any more info or screenshots. I provided them to Mike Stone and his manager-

interesting. I upgraded the whole system and ran through some issues which I just traded sleep for to fix. (with tac of course) During normal operation it the system works great. Its fast, no issues. But it appears twice a day the system comes to a screeching halt. TAC identified some session or channel streaming issues…

Just make sure you have good backups and understand the pre-req's and system requirements before you jump. And most importantly, good backups of every server (especially database). Yes I said backups twice. its that important. Dont forget the change controls and coffee. Ohh- and most importantly 1866-530-8040 option 3. I…

I am 100% current on our production system. No port exhaustion issues- and our previous issues of random poller status down issue appears to have gone away. We had quite a few support cases that appear to have been self inflicted by trying to do the HA upgrade to convert from 2012 to 2016. If I would have skipped that, I…

I can manually configure it, and then tell orion which port to watch- but doesn't orion automatically add and remove the netflow configurations using the resource manager?
-
Ill check back in in a few days with that data (once it starts building it). We started out with AppInsight for SQL through SAM and found some HUGE problems with some table index fragmentation, queries blowing out performance, and just things that "went red" during crisis calls. With those big wins people started asking…

I agree with bmallo- things are much much smoother now. Just download the all in one installer (we choose offline mode) and fire in the hole! It upgrades all packages to latest greatest on main Poller and then we do the update on the APE’s thatpulls their updates from the main Poller. High five solarwinds for these…
