yeah totally surprised to see this post from @KMSigma.SWI … they didn't adjust your handle? :)

Does the traffic actually stop when the device is deleted? Maybe another node was set up pointed at the same IP too, or is using hostname resolution and ending up at the same place.

This feels a little harder than it has to be. If you are dealing with Windows servers then 99.9% of the time you can just leverage the Installed Software inventory and write a custom swql alert that just looks for the existence of your apps in the software list, if sql server is installed then set a custom property you use…

No tool exists and one is unlikely to be created.

I feel like this is something to keep eyes on as they work through the Samanage/SWSD integration possibilities. That product already has facilities for doing KB's so making those tightly integrated with Orion itself would be a great win.

If you notice the first line has a chunk commented out with --, remove those dashes and it will drop in the node caption with a clickable link to the details page

The API already supports CRUD operations on user accounts, is there something specific that you have been unable to do?

Sometimes it's interesting to see how far apart some organizations are in terms of IT maturity. I'll sometimes go from places with full dev teams and lots of in house web fronted tools automating all kinds of IT requests and workflows and then I"ll be with an organization that doesn't even use ticketing and is hand…

I'm confused by this as I see a Solarwinds KB showing an example config with sampling, as well as several instances of people posting their configs into thwack. J-Flow and sFlow configuration examples for Juniper devices - SolarWinds Worldwide, LLC. Help and Support JFlow v9 IPv4 on Juniper SRX Does that not work for you?…

I think the limiting factor to this is that it typically puts a pretty measurable load IO load on servers when you walk their entire file structure, and it takes a while to run. To give yourself a sense of it just open treesize or similar on a server and see how long it takes before it actually finishes the scan. Few…

Thanks all, I've been waiting my whole life for this exact moment

Searches on EVERY PAGE!

I'm pretty nuerotic about keeping my inbox clear, I always cringe when i see my clients with a "Solarwinds Alerts" folder with 5623 unread messages.
-
Wish I knew more people with that skill set who wanted to work in security. Seems like a bit of a rare bird.

Today I learned that thwack has the same bday as me, woohoo

Mainly seems useful for summary dashboards. You look at your nodes, the icons are all green you assume everything is good. In reality, the color of the node icon at this point only tells you if there is a problem with pinging the device. The node could be completely jammed up with lots of other problems and alerts and the…

Same for me, going back to when I was a teenager doing phone tech support around the turn of the century . As soon as a call started I was typing everything they said into the notepad. Originally so I wouldnt have to ask them to repeat themselves later on but eventually I started saving them and adding more useful meta…

Glad to see the improvement on this front, I was at a city park the other day and wondered for a minute why i didn't have wifi for my phone before I had to remind myself it's not quite 100% ubiquitous yet,

Sounds a bit like the filter mechanism from SEM

You can't really compare "dupes" in joins without including every column, there is likely some column on the second table that does differ you just arent displaying it in your results. The easy with to get around it is just to select distinct.

There is already a tool to schedule recurring unmanagement windows, Schedule tasks to be stopped using the Unmanage Scheduling utility
-
I've only ever had that problem in the past when people put non-email address values in the custom property.
-
Funny to see how DR has changed in Orion since then, looking forward to future improvements
-
The common way to address your need to route different nodes to different teams is either the way you said above, create a bunch of different alerts for each team, or what most advanced users do is to create a custom property on nodes with the email address of whoever you want to notify when that node triggers an alert.…

I always go back and forth about the datamining stuff. On the one hand there is something about having my every action fed back into a system and analyzed for profit motives. On the other hand whenever i sit down on another person's computer and see the garbage that gets advertised to them all day I'm glad my browser is…

This is basically already implemented. You create a group with a dynamic rule like the ones described above, and then under SAM you can assign templates to the group and any time a new server matches the criteria it gets added to the group and the template is added.
-
I'm hoping not

I've written scripts to handle balancing via the API but it would definitely be nice to have Orion doing this natively, the tricky part is where people can only reach certain devices from certain pollers but just being able to create poller groups and associate a discovery with the group would get around that easily, and…

Very much looking forward to those posts!

Speaking of hybrid cloud, looking forward to seeing you guys bring your cloud offerings more into the limelight
