  • I concur with I prefer SNMP. Now that being said I will make some nodes WMI based when I upgrade to 5.5 because of the ability to poll mount points. It's really a shame however that there can't be a blended approach. I mean it's completely possible to build a SAM poller for a WMI query on an SNMP node but if the node is…
  • The process for updating MIBs is to open a case with support and email them the MIB file. Usually 7-10 days later you will be notified that the new MIB database is ready to download. Copy it to the proper location in the documentation and then restart the services. However a MIB file really only helps to define the OID…
  •  Check out this thread
  • I am looking to do this for a cisco router or an hp switch so while I love the idea it won't exactly work for our needs. I wonder if I can do something similar however with the SNMP traps.
  • Just curious have you modeled this page in WPM? Looking at what charts are taking the longest to load? I will say that I found that some of the built in resources from within SolarWinds (events for example) are not very efficient. In working with our DBAs I found what queries were slowing down our performance and I rewrote…
  • These are users with admin and nodemanagement rights. The error message is Could not log in. User name or password is not valid. We only have this issue with AD users (DOMAIN\Username)
  • Ok well then I guess that leads to a feature request. I don't understand why a node has to be first discovered to then be ignored. Wouldn't it make more sense if I as an administrator has a list that I would be able to import that list and have it blocked from any discovery? It seems awfully manual to go through a…
  • Be able to set a list of drop down boxes for pre-entered values to prevent someone from using the wrong values. Agree completely
  • Node caption is populated in the following priority during the node add: * sysName SNMP value returned (if SNMP responds) * Reverse DNS lookup * IP address Node Caption DOES NOT get updated automatically any time after the node loading and must be manually edited. Ok so that explains why I have some nodes that have a DNS…
  • I do this with one of the sysinternal products called psexec http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb897553
  • No...I'm on 7.0.2 I don't want to do a node sync until after support checks...I know the workaround however it's not supposed to do that anymore since upgrading to 7.0.2 so I want them to see what's going on.
  • That's exactly what I'm working on. I'm trying to determine the best course of action to build it myself since it appears no one has done it before. Chrystal Taylor just curious has Loop done this with any customers?
  • I think that would be an ideal approach!
  • Thanks, I was afraid that was the answer and I was hoping someone from Solarwinds would have stepped in and said that was on the roadmap. I will put this in as a feature request. I am a little dissapointed that I know have to duplicate my alerts and that any time we have an alert there will be two that show up on the…
  • Does anyone have any suggestions or thoughts regarding this issue? Please respond if you can. Thanks,
  • I have the same need but for different purposes specifically for an application. However unamange doesn't really accomplish what I want to do. So I have an app that is down for on Sunday Tuesday and thursday from 8PM - 2AM the following day. I could set an unmanage task to do what you are suggesting. However the unmanage…
  • Neil, I'm not looking for the actual traffic (I have a separate tool for that). I'm simply wondering why for 1 polling interval I have 9 data points.
  • That results in a 9. Here is what I'm seeing when I look at the traffic detail however I removed the device and interface name from this data. Notice all 9 results differ by less than 1 second.…
  • Has there been any update on this? I have recently moved to a new employer and I am tasked with rolling out Solarwinds to monitor their network. There are several clustered systems here that I am curious as to the best method to utilize SolarWinds to monitor them will be.
  • Thanks I will be able to use the built in monitor for the logs I poll with a specific defined source and just use my scripts for the ones I need a wildcard match. Luckily I only have about 20 SQL cluster servers that this is really an issue on....everything else is a single source match.
  • LOL that's part of a Jeff Foxworthy bit too...He goes on to say well I'll keep looking for it in case I'm in an alternate universe or something.
  • My personal biggest hurdle has been spindles. If we are not using a storage array and using local disk the more spindles (and the faster RPM) the better. In the large enterprise networks I have monitored disk IO has been my number 1 bottleneck.
  • Thank you Erica this is the route I was planning on taking with no other options. The issue in this case is I have 100 components I need to represent and manually creating a view for these components is not something I wanted to have to do.
  • Ok problem is they are relevant to multiple types of views I just need very specific formatting for a handful. I'll see if I can throw something custom together outside of the component. More of a summary page.
  • This is not done out of the box for any trap with solarwinds. The only way (and not really realistic way) is to create a custom rule for each OID and include the text manually in your email. This is an area that other products excel in and solarwinds could take some tips from other applications.
  • An alternative (unless you need the additional polling engine due to the size of the network) would be to allow your NPM server to get through the firewall to the DMZ to poll the nodes. To put a polling engine in the DMZ you will have to open a hole in the firewall anyway to allow the additional engine to send information…
  • What I don't like it we have to do it these basic things! I agree that sometimes we have to customize SolarWinds to do simple tasks but I will take the ability to customize a system to the nth degree over one that is locked in and you can't change anything or is so complex that customization is not worth the trouble any…
  • All the communications with the player originate from the Orion poller. All you need to use a player is HTTPS access from your poller to the player. I didn't have to do anything with our external firewall to be able to use the Amazon instances. The only way I would see that possible is if the poller was already publicly…
  • That's exactly what I'm looking for...What I need to know is if that works if it is already defined and not just the raw numbers.
  • Is the service in question monitored with WMI or RPC? SNMP will not work. Also from what I can tell you must specify an action -c=RESTART
