  • 1) What’s the RPC discovery all about? I have a server that is not SNMP enabled and I don’t have a login account for, and yet I can get Drive details?2) Can I use RPC to get other stuff such as CPU and Memory? RPC is only used for Drivespace and Windows Service monitoring and is basically a method where ipMonitor uses a…
  • Hi Steven, What type of switches? Are you using traps or syslog notifications? Are you seeing the notifications come into the syslog or trap servers? What does the syslog / trap rule you have setup look like and what is the command line you are using for the 3rd party exe when the rule matches? Matt
  • What options are selected under the usage restrictions for the credential you have configured? If you do not have "May be used with NTLM Authentication Schemes (Windows NT Lan Manager)" checked then give that a try. Uncheck "May be used with Windows Impersonation for use with RPC" when you make this change as that…
  • The NCM integration module needs to be installed / upgraded only on the NPM web servers.

  • You can use these tokens and the ones I mentioned in response to your previous post within alerts. To target the configured drivespace threshold settings you would use %monitor[thold\avgmin]% and %monitor[thold\metric]%
  • Hi timf, I will submit an enhancement request for you for item #1. As for #2: To add a node to NCM that is already in Orion navigate to the NCM summary page and click on the "Manage NCM Nodes" button on the node list resource. It will take you to a page titled "Add or Manage Node" that allows you to choose which nodes are…
  • Within the web console click on the "Manage NCM Nodes" button on the NCM Node list resource. It's the node list on the NCM config summary page. That will take you to the NCM node management page where you can remove an Orion Core node from NCM. You can tell if they are in NCM by the "Licensed by NCM" column. Hope this…
  • Hi tech75, Newly created reports should default to the time zone the server is configured to at that time. In order to change the existing reports you will have to edit the reports settings. On the reports tab choose "edit properties" for each report you want to modify. In the "Time Selections" section you will have to…
  • When you upgraded did you by chance change the user account that the ipMontor service is running under? It sounds like the service account may not have write permissions to the ipMonitor\config folder so the changes don't get written to disk on service shutdown...You can go into the ipMonitor config application to…
  • The behavior your seeing was by design to avoid creating duplicate devices when rescanning. In this case you could simply create new devices via the "Add new Device" as it allows you to enter the address and the desired name and then you can skip the scanning by checking "Add device immediately without scanning". Then you…
  • ipMonitor first tests that it can communicate with the informix server before asking for the credential. The QA ADO monitor wizard expects certain error codes to be returned before going to the next step. It is possible your setup or a newer version of informix is returning something ipMonitor is not expecting. In this…
  • You are looking in the right place but it sounds like you may have installed the evaluation instead of the release bits. If you upgrade to the the non evaluation version you will see an "Activate" button in the "Software Licensing" screen. Hope this helps!
  • Hi James, The trial is fully functional other than limiting the maximum monitors to 1000. Verify that you have enabled "Store Monitor Statistics for Recent Activity and Historical Reports" in the monitor config for each of the monitors you are looking at. Hope this helps! Matt
  • Hi dmacman, If you edit the report you could add the %devicename% token to places where it currently just has %monitorname%. So for instance there may be many cells that have %monitorname%::%monitortype%. You could change the cell to be something like %devicename% :: %monitorname% :: %monitortype%. Hope this helps! Matt
  • After you enable the approval feature you need to be logged into NCM as a user with the WebUploader NCM role in order to be able to submit a request. When logged in as a WebUploader, places such as execute script, execute config change template ect. will have a send request button vs a execute/submit now button. Hope this…
  • I would recommend trying out the Solarwinds TFTP Free tool. You can easily download it from within the Solarwinds Customer Portal under the additional components for NCM. I will investigate further into why the server automatically changes the root dir.
  • Hi chaldz, What is coming up for the "Communication Type" when these two different temperature probes are found?
  • Just wondering if you meant to say "Is this because, monitors for 'Offline Devices' are not included in this number?" If you want to see how many monitor are offline you can create a new smart group. Create it to include monitors and the filter should be add monitors where status is offline. Then when you are looking at…
  • Hi Beerinder,ipMonitor 9's dashboard settings are a system wide configuration as you have noted. What I would recommend is modifying the access rights for the user accounts you have created to not include write access for the dashboard so changes would have to go through the ipMonitor administrator. You could also take a…
  • Hi Kenshin138, Each email alert has its own "from" address configured within. Inside the email alerts configuration you will see a "Send Email From" field that you can edit. The servers email address is only used to populate this field with a default value when first created.
  • Check out this utility that helps with creating device templates. It says NCM 6.1 but it will work with 7.0. There is a link to a blog post and video that show you how to use it. Otherwise you can copy an existing template and modify it manually in a text editor. Hope this helps! Matt
  • If NCM and NPM are on the same machine the upgrade will be straight forward with simply running the 7.0 installer on the main Orion server and follow the upgrade instructions you have posted. It should make no difference that you never added any nodes to NCM. The instructions may look complicated but it really boils down…
  • Hi toddering, Under the "Configuration" tab in ipMonitor check out "Scheduled Maintenance Tasks". Here you can add maintenance schedules where monitors are disabled for a specified duration or while ipMonitor restarts servers or services. Choose the "Disable Monitors while actions outside of ipMonitor occur" option and…
  • Hi hhq, Option 2 will work. When you install IPAM 2.0 it will prompt you to enter your new license key and it should automatically let you add up to 16000 IP's afterwards. Regards, Matt
  • Hi Jon, Normally I would associate this error with HTTPS monitors. The solution in that case is to check "Allow SSL certificates to have a different Common Name than Host Name" or change the "IP Address / Domain Name" field of the monitor to match the common name of the pages certificate. Can you confirm that it is not the…
  • Yes, you can take advantage of Orion user account limitations for each user regardless of being integrated with NPM as its the same account management now. The account limitations can be set to only show certain nodes to a user and the NCM config tab will honor the limitations. Do note however the limitations will only…
  • Hi Eliseo, What you posted is a device template which is what NCM uses to define how to communicate with a device. These are simple xml files you can edit with Notepad located in the \SolarWinds\Orion\NCM\DeviceTypes folder. If you want to add this device template simply create a new file in that folder and copy this…
  • Hi Ron, Could you try adding a new column by right clicking on the right side of the header bar and choose "Add Column". Choose "Device Properties" and then "Parent Device". If that new column works delete the old one. You then have to go into the "Configuration" tabs "My settings" and click save at the bottom of the page.…
  • This does appear to be a data validation bug and I have entered it into our tracking system for review as 164310 . If you are ok with adding these accounts as ipMonitor administrators a work around is to use the ipMonitor configuration application to add the accounts instead of adding them in the web. Hope this helps! Matt
