I just checked the SQL back end and the SolarwindsOrionLog database is at 11GB so it must be getting logs from something.
-
Ahhhh that's why I could not find anything. I will probably get this rolling next week and see how things go.
-
Dunno? This whole thing has been confusing do we have the log viewer? Do we have the Log Analyzer? One of my team members that used the old log viewer asked me to look into this a few weeks back and all I have been able to do is go around and around and around and not get a straight answer. What is the log viewer that is…

jvb I have not used the Orion Log Viewer at all before so I am not sure where to start. If I go to Alerts & Activity > Sys Logs there are logs in the log viewer but I am not sure if I am in the right place. I can go to My Dashboards > Syslog and there is nothing there. When I click on 'configuring required services' both…

jvb - Good Afternoon! I checked the link Serena posted and I really can't figure out what I am doing with this. Do instructions exist for the built in log viewer or are they all for the Log Analyzer? I have never used the Syslog viewer so I am at a bit of a loss here. Thanks!
-
ok cool. I will have to dig into this next week. Thanks!
-
Is there any documentation on just the regular Orion Log Viewer? Some of my coworkers were asking about it and I have never used it before so I am trying to figure it out. Any documentation I find is for the pay Log Analyzer not the Orion Log Viewer. Thanks!

Hoping all of this is still valid in 2017. I have been trying to teach myself how to figure out how to write queries for reporting. This all looks amazing!!!

Just got off a call with my sales person and customer engagement manager and it sounds like SolarWinds is addressing the support concerns and turning things around.
-
Yeah now the maps are all messed up as well. I was going to leave for the day and finish up any clean up tomorrow but hahahahaha. If I could login to my customer portal I could get you the list of tickets but that's not working for me either. So the ticket that messed up my migration is #1244452. I also had a ticket opened…

To get around this I created an alert for just this server to monitor the drive space and it works. Not sure why it would not work with the rest of the servers in the group but I think it has something to do with WMI v SNMP.
-
I am actually trying to figure this out myself right now and found this link - it might help - Is there a way to add "All Application Monitors" or "All Component Monitors" to dashboard?
-
When I initially was setting this kind of alert up I had some issues figuring out what the variable was. I was following this to set things up - Success Center But I had to figure out what the actual variable was - To figure it out I went to the alert and in the message hit insert variable and did a search on EMAIL and it…

Thwack is a great place to get information on how to do things and to see how others do things. I have used a combo of Thwack and the Solarwinds site for learning all things Solarwinds.

I have had some really fun AppInsight issues with the self signed cert part with both IIS and Exchange AppInsights I would check there as well.
-
So I followed @osbourne_graham example and I have the site activity showing on all the properly showing on the page but the status not showing. What else am I missing here?
-
If the update fails I will open a ticket. I know all too well how to collect those diagnostics. I could do that in my sleep... now getting an actual answer from support... lol
-
We use Umbrella but this is the first time I have had this issue. I can't even get to the site to download the full installer...
-
For External node status you can monitor a very small amount of items - Success Center Depending on connectivity to the workstations you probably would use Agent or WMI for the best results.

I did this kind of upgrade last October but Instead of doing the move and upgrade I moved everything first, made sure it ran fine for a few weeks then did the upgrade. I did it this way just in case something went sideways it was easier for me to figure out if it was the move or the upgrade. Just my $.02.
-
I am starting to plan this update and will install .Net update on all of the servers first then to the upgrade. Do need to install this on the SQL back ends as well or just the app servers? I also have a DPA app and SQL servers as well should I update them to all things Solarwinds are on the same .net update?
-
I always wait a month for everyone else to figure out the bugs.
-
When I updated SolarWinds last October it broke logins to Network Atlas and now we have to use the local Solarwinds "admin" account. Any idea when this will get fixed?
-
So last night Solarwinds stopped alerting, orion site is down, and nothing is working. I am currently running diagnostics so I can dump them at support. Same thing is happening but it took almost a week for it to stop working this time. Orion site will not load. If I go to Services the Orion Module Engine goes into stop…

Are these Solarwinds files? I have been having lots of odd issues since the update and found 38GB of these on my server. Thanks,
-
So I maybe battling port exhaustion on my server after upgrading everything. I found this handy article (if it hasn't been posted yet) with a PS script that will run and let you know if ports get exhausted. Enjoy! So on Friday night at 10:38PM I received my last alert from Solarwinds. I just ran the diagnostics tool and it was complaining that Orion could not find the SQL server - which was kind of odd seeing that I can ping back and forth on each server via DNS name and IP address. I just rebooted Orion and now it i sending out…
-
I am patching SQL today so we can preform the upgrade next week Thursday. Hoping things go without a hitch!
-
We have RDS servers and other servers that go reboot in the night so reboots I have the alert disabled. If something else goes down it will send out an alert once the disabled time has passed.
-
So I received an email from support that I am supposed to change my SWIS transfer mode. And go to YOURHOSTNAME/Orion/Admin/AdvancedConfiguration/global.aspx. The problem is I don't have that folder anywhere on the server. What am I missing? aLTeReGo
