opaque and arcane: best description of COBOL that I have heard. Same goes for long time COBOL programmers... It affects their sanity.

I like the theme - but what if we want to attend some of the other mythical training centers? Solarwinds Academy is great, but it is missing dragons. And dungeon raids, no wait we have datacenter raids now. WHenever someone trips on the PDU and powers down a few servers and switches. The raiding party goes in to fix the…

Even if you are not a DBA, Kevin is an awesome speaker and can bring you past the point of running away in fear of SQL admin. Totally worth attending, more so as it is free!
-
Isn't that how you keep interns busy? - sending them to find the new oil for the servers.
-
I think today's question stumped oh so many of us. I crashed on it also. Took a guess for the one of the check boxes... I guessed poorly. The comment from Undersired_Result should be read carefully. Wish I had noticed it before attempting.

This was fun and different - Bonus points to @"yumdarling" and the team for this puzzle!
-
I am mostly the monitoring guy.

Wow 21! And here is to 21 more! I don't think I will be participating in that next big party though . It is simple, without Thwack, there would be no bracket battles, and no quick lookups to see who else found and fixed that issue you have! But it is really about the brack battles.. and thwack store.

well, serves me right for getting click happy. Had the subnet calc programmed, but number one is worded very carefully. You may not really need the calculator if you read it correctly.
-
Gotta go with other. New things just show up sometimes (that can be how it appears to everyone except the team implementing the shiny new object)... That is when it really becomes difficult.
-
Sounds like it was a great time. I cannot recommend going to one of these enough. If you have the chance - GO. Really, if you are serious enough to live on coffee and thwack, then you should go to a SWUG. @"KMSigma.SWI" Get some rest before the next SWUG! Take care everyone, Marc

Yeah, gotta go with the classic - SCOOBY DOO!
-
sam, npm, nta and wpm mostly. There are others, so it depends.

Hmm Love the Day 5 Poll. It needs a song of Bard's (Oral Knowledge passed on by tribal elders, um, senior engineers)

The alerts can be annoying, but the silos.... It can compare to driving through the American Midwest farmland. All you see are fields (of data) and silos (of data) that you cannot access. The occasional farmer's stand will offer a few bits (of data or fresh crops), and that is all you get. This is great until someone asks…

Ok, you may want to check out the alert lab forum. Things like alert actions would be a fit there: Alert Lab - The Orion Platform - THWACK (solarwinds.com) While no one may be familiar with the 4me api usage, there are a number of users familiar with this sort of integration and may be able to help with syntax/formatting…

This was .. (words fail me).... I never thought anyonecould make windows 95 sound stranger. Going to throw down the gauntlet here - how about a comparison blog of this gem and the star wars christmas special? I just want to know if your eyeballs stop working midway through watching both back to back...

I can win a smart desk lamp? As long as it brightens my day and provides helpful smart answers when I am stuck, then I am all in.
-
The trips sounded great, and I think we need a beardless photo posted.
-
The "its 3am and which one would you watch" test is failing. I would watch whichever one I found first.

What kills my productivity? Monday. Ok, the list above is not excatly what I run into. It is close to source of truth, but ... not... To have a source of truth all silos and communication barriers need to stop. Whether it is an investigation, alert storm, or tools, not having all metrics or having information silo'd will…

Gotta go with Total Recall, or We can remember it for you wholesale for those that read the Philip K. Dick novella. The whole concept of changing someone's memories and leaving them wondering which world is the real one is out there. The Manchurian Candidate is only other movie that reminds of this sort of memory changing.…

I agree about the UPS spam. I switched to custom polling at short intervals on them to get less chatty alerts.
-
Cheers Thwack! Without you, life would be less happy. With Thwack, life and monitoring have been much better!
-
OMG YES - they be the SolarWinds Dice! And I blew a question this week already, cuz I wasn't paying attention. No dice for me....
-
BUMP. I have noticed this behavior also. I would prefer to use a load balance url and spread the call's out among the AWS.
-
Hmm I think Mr Peabody and Sherman were using the way back machine again...
-
This is awesome. PBI seems to be one of those creeping toolsets, that combines 'stuff' from several sources. Are they plans to allow other data to be used from SWSD?

This might need a feature request. I did not see an option in the docs. I hope I am wrong.
