Sadly, i took the wrong pill and woke up at Initech... Help me... Please... I have to find a red stapler to escape the Matrix... I actually did have an office setup in a basement once. Not sure what that says about how they felt about me. I think Matrix might win this one. I still voted for office space. It is like living…

Gotta be wargames. Hackers was a bit to weird even back then.

For those of us with standing CABs or change meetings, nothing is approved outside of them unless it is an emergency. Then it gets fast tracked to upper management for approval. So sneaking in on a Friday with a totally new and unheard change is a not a good way to start the weekend. Nothing bad ever happens when you just…

That might be solvable if the client has a solid web filtering solution for the Self Hosted environment that permits granular access for the servers. It will depend on their internal policy and capabilities. Otherwise, air gapped is air gapped, end of story.

Going with the flow - usually email to specific teams, but the noc monitors production/high priority alerts and generates tickets on those.

D. All of the above...

The hint for Day 8 no longer works, it was pointing to the Release Candidate notes. 2024.4 went live, so here is a link that helps: SolarWinds Platform and Products—Version 2024.4 is Now Generally Available! - Product Blog - Resources - THWACK

Netpath with traffic informatoin definitely, then dynamically generated traffic maps.

Please. Just please.

I will send money when I get my voucher for free coffee.... No telling where I may send money before I have a cup of coffee... just saying.

Wow, you may have described an attitude that I have run into perfectly. I have had luck persuading some to change - a well designed GUI that was quicker to use than a script. But overall, I feel your pain.

Sticking with wargames on this bracket.

ohh Canakit - new Retropie setup... oohhh. I mean, I would never use it for non academic purposes...

Bringing the data together is a big one. SAM is great, but easily adding netpath to that data in a single dashboard. THe same is true for Pingdom/WPM, but lets add the API monitoring of the SAAS from SAM. Testing some SaaS with seum is helpful, others may require API only. OR they provide a dasboard.... Ugh. Bringing this…

Congrats to all the old and the new MVPs! For those wanting to earn the coveted Thwack MVP Title, you do not have to wrestle an algorithm into submission. Just keep learning and sharing. If you do force an algorithm into submission, please share. I want to see if it works on a misbehaving AI!

Has anyone tried this with NPM 11.5.2? I am looking at standing up a new system and this would make life a lot easier to bring everything into it. Ditto for standing up a full test environment.
-
Hmm feeling like I need to vote early and vote often for both of these.

Great information, and I agree with @"ecklerwr1" about virtualizing SolarWinds SQL and Orion too. Virtualization shoudl not be painful - just remember that just 'cuz it is virtual, it does not stop using resources; it changes how you think about them. One warning: "Hey lets put all of those physical servers into a single…

office space... still living the Initech dream.

ALL OF THE ABOVE... Oh, add locked records to the list..

Hmm I think @"jeremymayfield" is onto something. I will argue a bit that the orion platform can exist in the cloud, but yeah - monitoring 'all aspects' or the cloud is not as simple as on prem. The pieces play together in new ways - IOT and cloud applications - it gets murky which tool(s) can monitor them easiest. Netflow…

hmm How about both!!! Jurassic LawnMower? Or Lawnmower Park?? I like both - the darker and unintended consequences of knowledge. The day that Frankenstein became a dinosaur.. Gah, wish I was in grad school, this would have made a great paper, and one I would have enjoyed writing. Still stuck with both movies... I might…

its always more than one. SAM, NPM, NTA in particular.

OIDS for Weird stuff.. LOL, how right you are. I cannot think of a better way to describe custom polling.

PowerShell v7 is overall the trend for azure and just about anything else PowerShell related. Please BUMP everyone!

Scooby just loses without the rest of the gang. Gotta give it to Snoopy. Tough one though.
-
Hmm, anyone seeing teams use devops tools v. itsm tools depending on the request?
-
Okay, this one wins me over. Although, this one has implications of HAL. So its a upvote for me and a new source of nightmares. Impressive!
-
Azure monitoring is also a SAM thing. Not really a vman or vim thing in my mind.

It has been said before, but GO to these. They are free, like free beer (if only). You get to meet like minded individuals and learn that you are not alone. You are not the only one struggling with why device X does not respond normally to snmp. You may hear horror stories, that were just a normal Tuesday! And Wednesday,…
