thanks for the reply familyofcrowes, I created some 'APM Application' alert for the services that I want to monitor and it works like a charm,,, i will try use the method that you mentioned above cheers

Thanks aLTeReGo, it worked (with RPC) , but a new problem arose with Orion Web console , it will not let me expand the application monitors that I created to monitor the windows services (i clicked '+' in front the service monitor and it wouldnt expand), anyone seen anything similar before?

one last question: do I need to add a Component Monitor for each service I want to monitor? i.e if I want to monitor services: Alerter, DNS client, DHCP client and clipbook, does it mean I will have to create 4 component monitors? I managed to monitor NT services using WMI, but I am struggling to do so with SNMP without wmi been installed ( is it even possible?), I got in touch with solarwinds technical support and according to him, wmi MUST be installed for service monitoring to happen... I am confused!!!!!!! please clarify anyone

does it mean, I will have to create an alert for each service I want to monitor? i.e alert me when a service goes down. we have a few services that we would like to monitor, and I dont like the idea having to create alert for every single one of them...

hello, when I open 'alert me when an application goes down' it doesnt give me the 'Component Status' to choose I can do 'Node Status is equal to ...' also I cant add 'Process name', cant find it on the list, am i missing anything here?

I am having the same problem, it worked fine on NT machines, but this exact error came up when I was trying to monitor windows services on a windows 2003 server, so what i did was I created a new user with admin right on the server and used this newly created credential and it worked but I dont want to create a new user…
