hehe...that's how we do it also - wait for the user to yell. i was just wondering if it could be automated or caught by something like Solarwinds.
-
wow...i was completely off with my values and didn't notice the edge to be grabbed. thanks for the help.

Thanks Casey. can you answer a question for me? is there a reference someplace which mentions those variables which will work on maps? for instance, today i'm trying to place things like ${VolumePercentUsed} but i get nothing...so i assume those for Volume might not work either.
-
I was afraid you'd say that. Thanks.

First, we want to start monitoring CPU and hard disks. I have no idea what will be next. Does the IBM Director Agent get these two items?
-
So far it appears to only work when I do not use the alert variable form of ${...} Instead, I have to spell it out, like for instance, NodeName, or ServiceName, .etc Any ideas on how to handle or pass these variables from Orion alerts? Thanks for the reply.

Elias, Thanks for your response. Do you know how often this is refreshed? I have tried this tool but I can't find any settings for polling/refreshing/updates. Thanks again.

Ten48 good point using the traps. there's definately pros and cons to both. my greatest problem with traps is it's incoming trap name. how do you prepare to capture the exact trap name? i guess what i'm asking is, how do you anticipate the trap type or is there a repository of these for (all) Cisco devices somewhere? this…

ECORNWELL if you have multiple STATES like: (HSRP monitoring states 1:initial 2:learn 3:listen 4:speak 5:standby 6:active) it appears the MAP VALUES only allows one entry. is this correct or should it allow more than one?

found this link. check it out. http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/ios/12_3t/12_3t2/feature/guide/gt_esm.html

I saw that, but I assumed that is on a per message basis. Is there an RSS for an entire FORUM? If not, I'll do the singles. Thanks for the quick reply.

i just installed License Manager on my Orion server. so, when i'm ready to use it , what do i need to 'deactivate' in this case? and afterwards, i assume i just 're-activate' the same before i start all services back.
-
Thanks Jiří I'll start with those items. I appreciate your response to my call for help! :)

Donald, Good suggestion - I just made one with the VENDOR filter and it looks great. I wonder if another could be made for just GUESTS systems? Any thoughts on that one? I do have a Custom Node Property I guess I could use - I don't know the FILTER syntax just yet... Thanks.

Thanks!

justin0469, you ever use the tool WMI EXPLORER (KS-Soft) - wmiexplorer.exe? it's a good tool to confirm and troubleshoot WMI on servers. try to find it and connect to the same system and see what CLASSES you will get on that system. of course you'll have to authenticate to it remotely. here's what it looks like navigating…

I have another twist to my questions. Can I detect and alert on the CPU time used on a Process Name or its PID? Our developers are needing this type of information. Thanks again!
-
one more thing - i usually have to manipulate the FUNCTION (that is, don't leave it blank) in the new SELECT FIELDS field which i add.
-
Thanks for the reply but it is the latter part I wanted - 'the fields at Select/Filter tabs'... that's where it gets confusing while building a report having both Ingress/Egress.
-
i already am monitoring some of these models but these particular ones giving me the grief happend to be in Stacks. there is no firewall nor ACL involved here and strings are confirmed. i realize the extra hop isn't a Solarwinds issue - but maybe someone in the Thwack World out there has seen this and had the experience.…

Here's where my confusion started...using the same "PercentLoss" on both Node and Interface properties.
-
well - it's working ... in fairness to the Orion Execute External Program action - it does work - but i sure can't claim any points by something i did. here are the procedures i went through yesterday. 1) installed SQL 2005 Client on the Orion server (a pre-reg for "myprogram.exe") (BTW myprogram.exe is another vendor's…

Thanks for the reply. Ok, I’ve been spot checking some of those nodes and they do show a correlation. For instance - 2 days, 11 hours, 17 minutes, 44 seconds So - Is this an SNMP issue or what exactly is going on here? We know all of these nodes did not go down and reboot… If that MIB reaches a specific value does Orion…

Just edit the MENU BAR you're working with and add a newer entry for resetting password. Use this as the URL for RESET PASSWORD /Orion/Admin/ResetPassword.aspx
-
thanks - i'll give it a try.

Do you have any idea what the Microsoft ProviderSID might be for these events?

Good tip B. Eckler... I've done something similar to this with our VMWARE systems. I made a TOP 10 for VMWARE GUESTS systems based on a custom property filter Nodes.Region LIKE '%guests%' and then the other is TOP 10 for VMWARE HOSTS systems based on the filter Vendor LIKE '%vmware%'

We've been trying to use FILE CHANGE MONITOR. But it appears this requires user intervention to 'reset it' back to its monitoring state, that is, using the Update Checksum after it gets triggered. Is this correct? We're needing to trigger it immediately if the size changes but also we need it to reset itself soon…

That sounds good for Windows-based systems. I'm going to pass this same question to the Storage Manager forum. I hope their OS 'agent' will provide some monitoring at this level also, most especially for LUNs and IOPs. THANKS!

I'll try... Let's say I have 20 components defined (these are processes) and they are placed into an application called HELP-DESK-SQL. A few weeks later many more processes need to get added to HELP-DESK-SQL, so these NEW components need to be included in the same application. How can I see (in real-time) what those NEW…
