npereira, I think there is a canned report that comes standard in Orion that is very similiar to what you are looking for. Under the Current Interface Status section in Reports, there is a report called Down Interfaces that displayes a list of all interfaces that are in a down or unknown status. The only column that it…

Yes there is. If you look at the Trap Viewer on your Orion server (Start | All Programs | SolarWinds Orion | Syslog and SNMP traps | Trap Viewer), go to File | Settings. On the General tab there is a setting that allows you to retain trap messages for how many days. Your options are from 1 to 5000 days.

aliendan, I don't think it's possible (at least not in NTA 3.5) to store uncompressed data for 7 days. The setting seems to be limited to a drop down box with 240 minutes being the maximum amount of time you can store uncompressed data. I'm guessing the limit is due to the amount of storage that would be required to store…

Lee, it can get a little messy if you're talking about a lot of ports on your map, but you can drag the actual interface you want to add to your map from the node list. Just expand the node and drag and drop the interface you want to add to the object on your map. In your example, from object 1 in the node list, drag port…

Shane, Welcome to Thwack! Basic alerts don't support the ability to be acknowledged. You can only acknowledge the advanced alerts. Hope this helps!

Richard, I'm not aware of a log that shows what changes an Orion user has made. You can get the last login date from the database. It's a one line SQL query if you want a report that show the last login time. In report writer, create a new report and select Advanced SQL as the report type. Enter the following line in the…

Naghmeh, I'm afraid you aren't going to be able to get charts and graphs out of the report scheduler. I think all you're going to get as far as automated reports go will be reports from report writer inserted into an email. I don't believe you are able to create graphical reports from report writer.

contracer, If it isn't already there, you can customize the node details page and add the "Polling Details" resource to that page. I thought the Polling Details resource was there by default, but maybe not. In my environment, the Polling Details resource is in the left hand column on the node details page beneath the Event…

It's not in system manager any more. I'm on 9.5 SP4 currently. On that version anyway, it's on the admin web console under Orion Polling Settings. Under the Calculations & Thresholds section, there is a check box labeled "Allow Secure Data On Website (advanced). I don't know if it's moved since 9.5 or not.

There is a tread on this here: It looks like you can just stop IIS and delete the "C:\Solarwinds_Logging" folder.

toms003, I would recommend that you use an advanced alert instead of a basic alert. With an advanced alert, you have the option of setting an amount of time a trigger condition has to exist before sending an alert. Hopefully, that will keep you from getting false alerts. Hope this helps.

I'm still on 8.5.1 and not sure if this changes in v9.0 or v9.1, but you can get 1 minute chart intervals if you pull graphs from the device in the System Manager. You'll have to select Custom Period at the bottom of the graph and change the Generate Sample drop down to "every minute." Hope this helps.
-
If you scroll down to the bottom of the Orion web page, you should see your version and service pack level listed in the center of the page footer.

If I remember correctly, I believe it's the SolarWinds Job Scheduler service. If that service is stopping and starting, take a look at this Thwack thread for a possible cause: Hope this helps.

Byron, I've seen similar behavior in the past. Everything appeared to be normal, but if I tried to drill down into any of the performance data charts (cpu utilization, interface bandwidth utilization, etc.) I'd have no data. All services were reporting fine but if I went into the Monitor Polling Engines tool (Start |…

Oristilli, I can't tell from the information you've provided what might be the cause of your problem. It sounds like the snmp polling has stopped, but the icmp polls are still working. My guess is either your NetPerfMon service or maybe your BusinessLayerHost service is hung or stopped. I would try restarting all of the…
-
schwarzkopf, I think the easiest way to get that info would be to write a report in report writer. I think one of the canned reports under Historical CPU and Memory Reports is called CPU Load - Last Month. You can use that as a start for writing your own. Just drop the Average CPU Load from the Select Fields tab, add a new…

In the current version of map maker, you reallly don't have any grouping options. I've heard map maker is getting a major overhaul in the next major Orion release. Maybe someone from SolarWinds can let you know if this feature will be coming in the next version.
-
valdemirs, If I'm understanding your question correctly, the only way I can think to do that would be to use an advanced alert and set a delay equal to three polling cycles on the trigger condition tab. For example, if you are configuring an up/down alert and your polling interval is 120 seconds, you would set the "Do not…
-
You can set the delay on the reset alert just like you did on the trigger condition tab.
-
Yes, there is an additional license for additional polling engines. Here's a link to the info on SolarWind's website: www.solarwinds.com/.../polling_engine.aspx

Mick, I haven't seen this issue with the NTA, but I have seen it when users log into the Orion site by IP address and then try to navigate to a custom menu item on a customized menu bar. I created a CNAME record in DNS (I called it Orion) that points to the fully qualified domain name of the Orion server. I then made sure…

The only other suggestion I can think of is pretty dependent on your hardware at the sites. If you happen to be using Cisco routers and not ASAs and you happen to be running the right version of IOS, you might be able to configure an IP SLA operation that pings site B from site A. I've never used it, but I believe the free…

Naghmeh, As far as I know, the report scheduler is not able to generate emails with reports as attachments. We're still on version 9.1 SP5, but I don't remember reading anything in the release notes for 9.5 that mentioned this behavior changing. It would be really, really nice if Orion could email reports as attachments,…

Ronit, The functionality that you're looking for isn't part of Orion Network Performance Monitor. Solarwinds makes a product called Orion Network Configuration Manager that will help you keep track of changes made to your network gear. You can learn more about it here: www.solarwinds.com/.../ Just like Orion NPM, you can…

One option would be to create a custom property for the 5 or 6 nodes you want displayed in the All Nodes - Tree page. You could make it a Property Type of Yes/No. That will give you a check box to check in the custom property editor. Just check the nodes you want in the tree. Then your SQL query when you edit the All Nodes…
-
mikeyjay, Yes it is possible to create a custom report for certain time frames. In the filter results tab, add a new elementary condition of "Records where Hour of Day (24 hour format) is greater than or equal to 8" and another elemntary condition of "Records where Hour of Day (24 hour format) is less than or equal to 17."…
-
I don't know of a way natively to get a photo included on the node details page. Have you thought about creating a country-wide map with Network Atlas and using the photos as your map's background image? You could place node and interface objects on the picture that would link back to the node and interface details pages.
-
vandad, You can get the latest service pack and hotfix for NPM in your customer portal. Just log into your customer portal and look on the right hand side of the home page. There is a section titled "Service Packs & Hot Fixes."

Here is a link to a thread about this: In our environment (8.5.1 SP3), I've had to go to force a rediscovery of the interface itself. (Right click the interface, select Interface Details and click the Rediscover button.) The thread that I linked to above also has a few SQL commands you can run if you have a lot of…
