  • Dave, In the Add/Edit Action window in the SMTP server tab, there should be a check box that says "This SMTP server Requires Authentication." If you check that box, you'll open up the frame for Username and Password. Hope this helps.
  • Ronit, Back before Orion was completely asp.net, there was a way to customize the report page to add the same Raw Data button that exists on any of the charts you can display in the web console. The only way I know to do it now is to open the report you want to export in your browser. Once the report is open, type…
  • Ron, Here is a supported devices matrix from Cisco's website. (I attached the entire white paper to this post.) Hope this helps! Almost all Cisco devices support NetFlow since its introduction in the 11.1 train of Cisco IOS Software and because of this, NetFlow is most likely available in any devices in the network. Table…
  • I think you should be able to do this with a Network Discovery job. Probably the easiest way to do it would be through a bulk upload by IP address or hostname. The Network Sonar job won't duplicate the node if it already exists in the database, but you'll get the option to select which type of interface you'll want to…

  • I don't think the ip flow ingress command is supported until 12.2(15)T and the egress option isn't available until 12.3(11)T. You should be able to use ip route-cache flow instead, just remember that ip route cache flow only supports ingress data. Hope this helps.
  • In your case above, I believe that would be three elements. The router itself is one element (which includes CPU, Memory, response time, etc.) and then each interface you choose to monitor is an additional element. So another example would be a 24 port switch where you monitor all 24 interfaces would count as 25 elements…

  • John, One place to start would be the Content Exchange page. Other users post content like UnDPs, custom reports, etc. that they have created and are using in their environments. It looks like Brian Duvall has posted some Universal Device Pollers for Juniper Netscreens and VPN Tunnels. Hope this gives you a good place to…
  • Bump - I'd like to know too if it's possible to hide the "Label" column from a tabular UnDP.
  • lchance, How are you setting up a trigger on interface percent loss? I don't see that as an option in my advanced alerts trigger conditions. (I'm still on 8.5.1 SP3) From the description of the percent loss variable in the admin guide, that node variable represents the percent of ping packets lost when the node is polled.…
  • This isn't exactly what you're looking for but at one point I found a sql statement in the content exchange zone that produces a custom report listing all of your user accounts with their last login time. I can't find the post anymore, but here is the sql statement. I used it to create a custom sql report. select…
  • Another option you have would be to filter the interfaces out of the Top 15 Interfaces by Traffic view. If you log in as admin (or an account with permission to customize views, you can click the Edit button next to the Help button in the top left hand corner of the table. In the Edit page that comes up, the last text box…
  • martinez, I can think of a couple of quick things for you to check. First, make sure that the user account you're logged in as is set up to view reports. At the bottom of the edit account screen, there is a section called "Default Menu Bar and Views." The last item in that section is a drop down for Report Folder. If your…
  • Spiky, Solarwinds has additional polling engine licenses you can purchase to allow you to have multiple polling engines. www.solarwinds.com/.../polling_engine.aspx
  • meddle01, Check out the post here: It describes how to use a couple of Firefox add ons to automatically cycle through tabbed views. Instead of trying to fit everything on one page, you might think about this approach. Hope this helps!
  • By default, a scheduled discovery shouldn't overwrite any of the nodes that already exist in the database. I haven't done much with Network Discovery yet but I do know when performing an import, the import process skips anything already in the database, as you can see in the results here: Node xxxxxxxxxxxx skipped. Already…
  • cereal83, You'll need to use an advanced alert and you'll need to set up a condition group in your trigger condition settings. In your trigger condition set the property to monitor to Node. Leave the "Trigger Alert when all of the following apply" set to all. Add a simple condition of Node Status is equal to Down. Then add…
  • You can go to your admin page, select Web Console Settings and change the Status Rollup Mode to "Mixed Status shows Warning."
  • MathieuJM, You can do that from the Node Management screen. Search for the node you want to poll, click the check box next to the node's name and select Poll Now from the More Actions drop down list. Hope this helps!
  • If you can establish a client-less VPN connection to your network, that would be the best way to access your Orion web site from any computer on the Internet. I suppose you could purchase the Orion additional web server and place it in a DMZ, get a SSL cert on it and hit it as a secure web site. I've never looked up to see…
  • patchesj, The easiest way I can think of to do this would be to assign a custom property to all of the interfaces you want to include in your report. Then you'll create a new Historical - Interface Traffic report in report writer. Select the fields you want displayed in your report (i.e. node name, interface name, total…
  • Yes, that would be an awesome feature if SolarWinds can pull it off. The only way we currently have access to that information is via Service Statistics Manager in the Cisco Unified Communications Management Suite of tools. It's a half dozen or so clicks plus an export to a spreadsheet to begin to get to the PRI's call…
  • Bruce, The MIB database is updated weekly by SolarWinds. You can download the most recent version from your customer portal. For Orion, the default location of the MIB database is \Program Files\SolarWinds\Common. If the MIBs you need aren't include in the database file, you can open a support ticket and submit the MIB…
  • Sam, I've run into something similar. I'm not sure how common an issue it is, so this might be a long shot for you. It's more likely to occur if you're on a version of Orion prior to 9.1 (I think 9.1 was supposed to fix this.) However, I did run into this issue even though I'm currently on 9.1 SP5. If the Job Engine…
  • I've never done this, but there is a very comprehensive PDF posted in the content exchange area which explains how to create reports using the SQL Server Reporting Services. One of the examples show is a report with a graph of the report's data. This may or may not do what you're looking to do, but might be a good place to…
  • Chris, To add to what Marie posted, I believe the warning and error thresholds for response time are global values. There isn't really a way to adjust the thresholds just for a certain group of devices or a certain resource within a view. You could create a node filter for that resource. It wouldn't really do what I think…
  •  In the add node window in System Manager, there is a frame on the right side labled "Node Type." You can set the node type to ICMP Only and enter an external, pingable address. The node should show up in your node list in Map Maker by the address you entered (it will show up under Unknown.) Just drag the node onto your…
  • netwerkcak, I think if you add an additional simple condition to the trigger condition for the alert to specify the IP address is not equal to the one you want to exclude, you'll be able to disable the alert for that IP address.
  • schwarzkopf, Polling isn't so much CPU or even memory intensive. However, it is very disk read/write intensive for the SQL server. 11,000 elements on a single polling engine is a little over the recommended limit (I've generally seen it recommended you have somewhere between 8,000 and 10,000 elements per polling engine.)…
  • Richard, Are you talking about basic alerts? If you're using advanced alerts, you should be able to acknowledge them from the web console. If you're using basic alerts, I think your only option is to get on the server.
  • dwyer, Do you mean how long is polled statistical data held in the database by default? If so, there are "levels" of data Orion keeps. The most granular data is called detailed statistics and the default retention for detailed statistics is 7 days. After 7 days, the detailed statistics are summarized into hourly…
