To help others find this article, I suggest you use the official name of the feature "AI Query Assist". Great article!

I'm putting that one into the queue! It'll probably be late this year before we can cover that material. Thanks for the feedback! -Kev

Just curious, but is the SQL Sentry Advisory Condition for RAM inadequate?

Zero was a cool character, but primarily window dressing. I don't think he ever really did anything, did he?

Toothless is adorable and also a bada$$ warrior!

I love Hardcore History! One of my all-time favs. But I'll have to also check out Age of Napoleon.

Good idea!

Excellent and informative article, Eric. Thank you for sharing!

I truly love Ron Burgundy, but Salem is one of the few cats that actually has his own memes. So he gets my vote! =^D

I will definitely check out Perspectives in Tech and This Week in Enterprise Tech! Otoh, I know Richard Campbell from RunAsRadio pretty well. Heck, he and Carl Franklin, from DotNetRocks, hung out at my house in the past. They do great podcasts as well. Great recomendations!

You are correct, Mark. A replica usually an element of a high availability use-case and may even have non-HA uses, such as read-only replicas for various database platforms. A backup, otoh, is a transactionally-consistent means of disaster recovery (DR). And to loop in @"mel.mcgurk" and your own comments about snapshots,…

Fwiw, SQL Server 2025 isn't yet an officially supported platform. However, there's no reason not to go forward. As long as you're aware that any big issues that require a bug fix will definitely be postponed until after support is officially announced, I say go for it. Cheers! -Kev

In case you're still looking, check out this very recent Forum post Introducing a Modern Drill-Down Dashboard and its Modern Drill-Down Dashboard Downloadables and Setup Info. Cheers!

Absolutely and reliably true! Make sure your security tools do not scan MDF, NDF, and LDF files! It'll crush performance every single time it runs. By the same token, exclude your database tools from storage and SAN deduplication routines. They too will make performance worse.

@"Daran" is correct. Network packet size, at least for SQL Server, represents the amount of data sent between the database and the endpoint within a single TCP/IP packet. It's one of several tunable configuration settings in SQL Server that should almost never be altered. Changing it will almost certainly make no…

Hi Pär, I think this is one where it might be best to file a Support ticket. Sorry I can't be more help. -Kevin

We are always happy to receive new feature requests from users like yourself! If you don't mind, please take a moment to enter your request at SQL Sentry Feature Requests . Also, it'd be helpful if you could provide more details as to what you'd like to see. For example, are you saying you'd like to be able to execute SQL…

Hi Ira, Expressions are used in many places throughout Task Factory. It sounds like you might be using native expressions in SSI. If so, see the Integrations Services (SSIS) Expressions article from Microsoft Docs. If not, this article from the SolarWinds docs might help as it covers a variety of ways to work with…

Hi Brian, Yes, SQL Sentry can monitor Azure SQL Managed Instances. To monitor Azure SQL Managed Instances, use SQL Sentry versions 2021.12 or newer. If you're still encountering this error, I suggest you have Support create a ticket for you. Cheers!

Hi Emrah, I'm still looking into this as I just saw your post for the first time. My initial suggestion would be to see if you can access the data that you need via the Reports feature. Does this show what you need to see? You can also invoke the Reports within SSMS, since they're all basically stored procedures. Second,…

HI Ira, can you share the error message and details, include product version number? Without a description of the error you're getting, it's virtually impossible to troubleshoot. The SFTP error described in this post is a good example. If the error says something like [ExecuteTask Failed:] Information: Could not…

Hi James, can you please provide a bit more detail about the situation? Did this error cause an actual issue?
-
Hi Rafael, Are you just experimenting or do you actually want to be inundated with useless, noisy email notifications? At first glance to what you have here, it looks like your condition will not fire for any value 5.00 or less. But your query returns values that are no less than 15 all the way up to 93. So it looks like a…

Yes, you can indeed monitor old and unsupported versions of SQL Server going back to SQL Server 2008. However, I wouldn't recommend it. The reason, of course, is that while we monitor those old version, we do not offer support on those older versions. So if you ever encountered unusual or erroneous behavior on DPA when…

This request is going to take a bit of time to decode. What is the main driver for this? Is it personal use or something that your team or someone higher up the chain is requesting? The reason I ask this is that the requirements you mention are a bit of jumble and it's hard to tell which are highest priority from those…

Hi Eric, let me investigate this further. Sidebar - have you already talked with Support? Many thanks, -Kevin

How do you define "large" in this context? Are you interested in a fixed threshold, say anything >= 100k rows? Or are you interested in a dynamic threshold, say 25% of a table?
-
Btw, some more details would be useful, especially what version and edition of SQL Server. SQL Server has become markedly better with each new release and what's a problem in an older release, say SQL2016, is solved in a recent one.

Fwiw, when you see a WHERE clause containing an evaluation like "1=1" or "2=2", that clause is invisible to the query optimizer because 1=1 or 2=2 always evaluates to TRUE. So, as you say, it's basically a nifty trick to get the query optimizer to say "Move along folks. Nothing to see here. Move along." It also doesn't add…
