I updated to 12.1 last night but no further since we are still on a 2008 SQL database. IVIM is still at 2.1.2 so I still can't log into my 6.5 hosts.

I think I might have found my problem. It looks like upgrading to NPM 12.0 was one step short of what I needed to do. You might try the product updates section under the settings link in the upper right hand corner. There is a checkbox for enable product updates. Not sure if it applies to the license stuff or not. I think it may only be for versioning.

When setting up your Universal Poller, Get Table will not offer gauges as an option for display. Using Get Next will give you the option to display gauges. THere is an advanced section in poller configuration that you can expand that will let you change the option.

Since it's SOLARwinds. Why not Star names? or constellations? There's already a product with the Orion name. It wouldn't be a stretch.
