At my last place of employment we had 12+ network engineers adding nodes, reviewing reports etc on a daily basis. Only the solarwinds administrator (myself) had the proper privileges to delete a node. We actually had a custom property that the other users would mark to let me know that the node needed to be removed and why…

I've always been into the flight simulators. So much so in fact that I built a custom simulator that mocks up most of the functional components of the Cessna 172. This includes working circuit breakers, radio panels etc. Last big piece will someday be adding motion to it. I too collect cars, I have a 65 Mercury comet that…

this has been my life motto, I have an old school coffee cup that has been in the family for 70+ years with this quote on it. Everyone in the family was pretty much raised at the airport.

we are replacing our san and all of our old ucs blades in the coming year!
-
Agreed! There is a lot to look forward to this month!

Dear network, I don't think you like me anymore, all you do is sit there and stare and the floor while users sit here waiting for more. This year I promise to hold up my end of the bargain in this relationship by performing the following: 1) Upgrade all external ISP connections 2) perform a routing cleanup process 3)…

I can't even begin to count the number of IBM thinkpads that I have out there doing just this task.

acmtix I too do not go for as many certifications for fear of failing and having to retake the test. I'm due by end of this year to recert for the CCNA but not in a huge hurry to do so because of this.

I felt like it was a trick question and I would not get it right!

Last November found be switching roles between Application Administrator to Systems Administrator so I feel like I've graduated to a new level of education. Like going from a bachelors to a masters program. Lots to learn!

My favorites are always the ones where we are able to avoid outages by properly identifying a problem before it affects the end user.

I saw the spelling mistake, took the chance and selected it anyway...thankfully lol.

excellent suggestion! I find myself exporting the data into excel and doing what I need to do with it o a daily basis whereas if this was included there would be no need for the additional steps.

we had noticed this too but didn't open a case as we don't put as much stock in those reports.

Keep playing! never give up and someday you may just win!

I put all of mine in yesterday too!

Thanks for the warm welcome! It's good to be here!

Congrats mate!
-
Thanks! I look forward to it!

this would be a great addition, I would gladly convince management to spend some additional money to upgrade if it meant we had this functionality.

I must admit, I didn't read all of the links.....but I have to comment on the jeep in the background! That's a beautiful color! Looks a lot like mine!

I concur with Craig on this, as long as the proper routing/firewall rules are in place IPAM will let you monitor any IP/range you would like to.

I use the information included in this Thwack post to setup WMI on my side: erify WMI settings on the system being monitored - SolarWinds Worldwide, LLC. Help and Support

This is the method I've had to utilize in the past as well for machines not on the domain that we would still like to monitor.

I did this quite extensively at my last job. We were however monitoring through the loopback interface on routers at remote locations connected over our own MPLS network provided by Verizon.
